  • Firstly:

this is from the same company (Shopping Express and Futu have same owner I think). Check the specs yourself, but I think it's the same item:

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-Envy-Phoenix-810-i7-3TB-16GB-S…

Enter CLICK20 and you'll get 20% off that price (so only about $1120 delivered)

    Secondly:

This PC will be more than enough for your needs.

BUT: The SSD (16GB is nothing) and GPU (only 2GB on a 770, can that be a right?) are very lacking for the price, IMO.

Personally I'd pick parts using the current CLICK20 eBay deal (it applies to other sellers too, see the deal here on ozbargain) and build it myself (you really only need to watch a single youtube video to learn how to assemble it) and build a more powerful machine for cheaper.

It's a decent price (not amazing) - here's a roughly equivalent list of parts I put together that comes to $1257.00. Note that I've gone with manufacturers that have good reputations, so you could probably go slightly cheaper. Getting it built by a system builder would probably make up the difference anyway.

    Other minor changes include:
    -DDR4 instead of DDR3
    -GTX 960 instead of 770 (960 is just a rebranded 770)
-Windows 8.1 (free upgrade to Windows 10 until the end of August)
    -No 16GB ssd (pointless IMO)
    -No optical drive

As mentioned by mgowen, you could also get this PC cheaper though eBay at the moment.

    • Cheers mate and do you think that computer would be better than the one I posted in the link even though it's i5 not i7

      • The build above isn't better, no. It's roughly equivalent to the PC you were asking about.

Unless you're video editing, you aren't going to see any real difference an i5 and an i7; there's definitely no advantage for gaming.

I'd say that http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/kNKrxY is better - note that the adjusted prices for the CPU, motherboard and the SSD are all based on prices you can find on ebay with the CLICK20 code.

        Link to CPU
        Link to SSD deal
Link to deal that mentions the Asus H170 Pro

While you could probably go cheaper on the motherboard, this board will give you room to expand if you want, and also has some nice extras (USB 3.1, etc). Please note that it doesn't have wi-fi though, so you'd need a wired connection to your router. I didn't bother with a optical drive either, as they're pretty pointless these days.

The R9 380 is generally better than the 960, but you could also wait for AMD to release the 480, which is looking better than the 380, and is priced at US$199, so ~$270 plus Australia tax.

If you want to wait for a 480, you can still take advantage of the current sale; just buy everything except the graphics card, then pick up a 480 when it releases. You'll still be able to use the computer while you wait as the motherboard I've gone with has integrated graphics. It won't be very good for games until you add the graphics card, but it'll work.

Also, if you just want to be able to play the latest games, but not necessarily in Ultra settings at above 1080p at 60FPS, you could be spending a LOT less than a grand on it. A lower end GPU, a 128GB SSD, and an i5 (or even an i3) CPU should be plenty for work and light gaming.

You could be looking at closer to $600.

(But again, I'm thinking of DIY price).

  • Would you be willing to BYO or do you want pre built only?

16GB SSD is useless… most OS requires more than 20 (pre cutting of unnecessary functions) and in all honesty, I don't like pre-builts because all the part's are usually OEM and not as good.

As mgowen mentioned, if you are not going to use Ultra setting with >1080p and 60fps, you can get a cheaper GPU and it will be enough.

  • I know it's asking a lot but with the current eBay sale any chance someone could get a whole bunch of parts together that you recommend I'm happy to spend a little over a grand I would like something that's pretty powerful for $1000

    • I didn't go through ebay… but try make something like this

      http://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/Lxvypb

      SSD is optional
OS is dependent on whether you have one now
      Optical driver is optional
      Case is dependent on you
CPU cooler dependent on whether it is included with the CPU, if one is included, then this is optional

Basically most of the stuff can be switched out but the CPU and GPU should be around that specs for what you want it to do. Provided you're not going to start gameing at 1080p with 60fps and ultra settings.

      • Cheers You recon that's better than the one I posted?

        • I wouldn't say better, but more suited to your needs and also, you don't need a GTX 770 if you are only going to game casually. Also, I can't justify it being $200-$300 more for it having a GTX 770

      • all non K CPUs come with a stock cooler.

        • Yeah i wasnt too sure if they changed it or not. The 2700k when i bought it came with a stock cooler as well.

Pm me if you would like it built for you mr coom, no charge

  • As mgowen said, you can buy it from here and claim the 20% off with the eBay sale, making it very good value at ~$1120.

If you wanted something to match that spec (With an i7, 16GB RAM, 770/960, 3TB HDD, Blu-Ray Drive), you'd be spending over ~$1400 (excluding the mouse, keyboard, Wi-Fi card, and SSD cache that come with the HP).
