Bosch Blue 18V Lithium-ion 2 Piece Cordless Drill Kit $268 @ Bunnings Warehouse

440

Professional spec cordless drill and impact driver. Looks to be a response to Masters 10% off Bosch kit sale.
Normal price is around $300, this is $1 less that the Master's deal but has the GSB Striker Hammer Drill instead off the GSR Drill Driver.

  • I think that this deal is not too bad but I will wait for a drill only deal.

    • +3

      Personally, never seen one.
      It's all about combos.

  • Got a PowerPass email from them, 5pm yesterday.

    Same kit, $249.00
Offer Valid until June 17th 2016

    • Trades only?

    • This is trade only deal

      • +2

        Yes. PowerPass.

        Get/borrow/research* an abn = qualified.
It's a cash-only account (it's just a card), with generally 5% of timber etc. (sometimes triple that) so it's harmless.

They type it into their computer during the application, and it shows the details.
So long as you know the name of the ABN, whatever is publicly visible… and obviously have a story to explain why you want the discount. ie: I'm a handyman, own rental properties etc. etc. JOB DONE.

        • I realise this. Was just making point that most people on this site wouldn't have access to powerpass card to get it at this price. They are easy to obtain if you want one though (cash account only)

        • @kev98: I just wanted to clear it up a bit. I don't think "Trade only" is accurate, even though it's probably their policy/wording.

      • In saying that, I walked into my local Bunnings, told them I don't have a power pass but asked if they would match the price anyway and they agreed to. Worth a try if your after one.

  • Can someone post the link for masters deal

  • This is a good deal and the tools are amazing - a huge step up from the Bosch green version.
I got mine in this deal back in 2012.
That was when Amazon would still ship Li-ion batteries
At that time the US$ was worth less than the AU$, which made the deal less than AU$180.
But you needed to buy a step-down voltage transformer (mine still works a treat).

At less than $300 this is a good buy

      Ahh, that 2012 deal.
That was the start of my Bosch Blue collection, I now have over 20 18v Cordless Bosch tools as well as quite a few corded ones !!!
I've never had an issue with any of them and the original batteries are still going strong after 4 years. The small pack batteries don't last long compared to the 6Ah ones that I also have now, but they are handy on the tools that don't use much power when you want a compact or light tool-battery combo.
Surpringly the 6Ah is the same size physically as the 3Ah, 4Ah and 5Ah batteries, they get heavier with capacity increase of course but not by a lot.
I had to lower my standards a few weeks ago and buy a Makita 18v Stapler, I don't know why Bosch don't make them.
I have to keep it separate from the Bosch tools as they are that tough, they will probably bash the Makita up :) .

That's good to hear whitey - you obviously fell in love with Bosch blue.
I didn't quite fall under the spell as much as you - how on earth can you find 20 Bosch tools that all do something different?
Would love to know if you still run the US 110V A/C packs through a step down transformer - it' never been a hassle for me.

Also - for an uneducated DIYer like me, how easy is it to come by the 6aH packs - and are there any bargains available?

        • +1

I also got this combo back in 2012.

I bought the Australian 220V charger at a local tool store instead..

        • +1

Even though I have a step down transformer, i've never used the US charger as I bought the 240v fast charger at the time.
I did a quick count tonight and I have 20 Bosch cordless tools and 9 corded (don't tell my missus).
The 6Ah batteries are sold at Bunnings, Total Tools etc. for $139 , Sydney Tools wants $179 for them which is surprising as they are usually the cheapest. I got mine from a Total Tools sale for $119.
One thing to note is your tools will have a lot more power with a 6Ah battery fitted, this is more noticeable on the tools that use a fair bit of power, like the angle grinder.

Masters closing = less competition from bunnings. No good.

    • Wrong thread?

  • Masters deal here:
    https://www.masters.com.au/product/101249761/bosch-blue-prof…
Comes down to $255.55 if you have one of their trade cards.

    • And another 5% if u pay with gift card

  • I got these, not sure if as A DIY only user I needed these, but I've got them anyway.

  • So Bunnings vs Masters deal, which one has the betters drills?

GSR 18V V-LI BB Drill Driver vs 18V GSB Striker Hammer Drill BB

  • +2

The quality is the same, (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EEtGCL-2P8) but you would pick the GSB hammer drill if you needed to drill masonry, otherwise the GSR is a bit smaller and 100g lighter and adds the ability to drive screws.
    http://www.bosch-professional.com/gb/en/service/news/press-r…
Given that there is also an impact driver in the kit that does screws, I would say the GSB kit is slightly more versatile, though if you do a lot of masonry drilling you would probably want something bigger than this.

    • this is an excellent summary. I would caution against hoping to use this for regularly masonry drilling. think of it as a 'get out of jail free card' for the occasional 6mm wall plug.

these are very good tools at a great price. this is the first competition I've seen to the also-great $250 Milwaukee 2 pce kit that often comes up at Sydney Tools.

      • Other than the time it takes, is there any problem to using the Striker Hammer Drill for masonry work? Will it cause device damage is what I'm curious about?

I have some masonry work to do, but not very much, a days work for a non-professional I expect.

        • +1

The Electronic Motor Protection (EMP) feature protects the motor against overload, so it is unlikely to be damaged. The work the drill has to do increases with size of hole, depth of hole, hardness of material, quality of drill bit and how hard you push the drill into the work. If you were drilling a 10mm hole into hard concrete you may need to reduce the load, by first drilling a 6mm pilot hole, enlarging it to 8mm and then to 10mm. Also note that for sites with mains power a $49 240V hammer drill is likely to be faster.

        • @mullarpa: Thank you. I got this Bosch set and review online wasn't that positive, shouldn't be an issue for DIY only person here.

        • +1

I wouldn't think that one days use would be a problem. But I find it hard to imagine lots of masonry work not having an effect on the drills life and accuracy long term. The main issue you will have with repetitive hammer drilling is the bits. Regular hammer drill bits (as opposed to SDS bits) have a habit of getting destroyed due to heat when used for lots of holes.

If you want to do many holes in a day, try and borrow an SDS drill. If its a hole here and there this drill will be fine, especially as used in the way mullarpa (above) has described.

  • Hi question for anyone that bought the deal. Did you get two belt hangars, ie one of each drill? i've only got one on the hammer drill.

    • never mind my bag came with the wrong drill. instead of the GSB 18 V-LI i got a GSR18-2-LI plus. not sure which one is better but GSR18-2-LI plus has no hammer drill

    • I also got it for $218 in Vic
