I have this and personally top notch.. the issues you read about ppl complaining about the power button being hard to turn on/off is BS… learn to be abit gentle and use the item and no issue… nice wide cuts and stubble is very good :)

    • Is it completely washable? I mean, can u use it in the shower?

      • +1

        No

    • +1

The power button is definitely not great, but its also not a big issue.

      Also:
      Battery is great.
Closest guide doesnt cut close enough

However, I have one and would recommend it.

    • +1

The power button on mine stays on and wont switch off.

    • I've had mine for just over 2 years, for the last 3 months I've had real problems with the power switch, like a lot of the reviewers on Amazon. When it works it's great, but be prepared to be without it for servicing or spend a bit of time on it yourself pulling it apart completely for a thorough internal clean. I wouldn't buy another one.

    Hey fellas,
I have had this for about three years now. Has never skipped a beat. The battery life is awesome and the motor is really good, for someone like me - very strong beard hair. Highly recommend.

  • +4

I need to comment on this. Have had one of these for about 4 years, and they are simply the best purchase ever. I bought it at full price form shaver shop, but don't regret it one bit. If you are in the market for something like this, definitely buy it! It's the ultimate body hair trimmer.

      Sack, crack and back?

      • +1

Sack = slightly dangerous. Crack = No Issues. Back = No hair for me ;)

        • +1

It comes with various length guards. Use an appropriate length guard and you would have no problems 11/10

      • Is your tiger lost in the jungle? Achieve the optical inch with our range of body groomers! • Looks good.. Thanks OP

    • +1

The Philips appears to be specifically a beard trimmer where as this is a complete groomer. Comes with all attachments so you can trim your head and body hair, along with the attachments for your facial hair, nose hair etc. This is much more universal and a very solid build.

      • Thanks for the feedback swifty.. Might go ahead with the Wahl.

  • Purchased OP.
Had $20USD credit on amazon which made the deal super sweet!
    Thanks

  • +1

I bought one of these last Christmas for ~$130. Well worth it if you have a beard. Quick and easy to use, lots of different guide combs to get your desired style.

    • $130 from Amazon or Shaver Shop? Been waiting for it to come on special locally but doubt it will ever go on special..

      • Local. It was slightly discounted at shaver shop last Xmas.

        • Slightly? It's $169 in there

  • I have one too. Battery goes for ever…. Also, build it top notch.

  • Wahl are the brand most hair salons use as they are that good. Well worth it.

  • +1

Ordered!! I have been looking exactly for this a little while now. Thanks a lot OP. Its currently for sale at shavershop for $130AUD.

    • +2

Is it really? When I checked this morning, ShaverShop's website still said $169AUD…weird

      • In shop/walk in there is sale atm.

  • +3

    "beard" trimmer

    • Haha you make a good point, I should change that

  • May be a dumb question, but does this shaver "catch" trimmed hair?
I had an old trimmer that would catch hair (sort of like a lawn mower, you need to empty it) and after using my new one where I must lean over the sink I really miss the old one.

    • I haven't used it yet, but from the description and pictures, I'm pretty sure it doesn't catch hair unfortunately

    • No, it doesnt. Hair everywhere.

  • I presume it's multi-voltage?

    • +1

It has a tick under 'worldwide voltage' so I'm assuming yes.

edit: oh and it mentions dual voltage under 'about the product'.

    • +1

Yes (I have one and it's imported from Amazon US)

  • thanks op. bought one.

  • Picked one of these up from Costco when I was in the states last year. Heard amazing things but I found the lowest cut wasn't close enough for neck/jaw line. Granted I have a thick beard with curly hair. Just my 2c. Using a pretty standard Philips now, gives a reasonably close cut but costs about a quarter of the price.

    • i also have a Cordless Philips one i bought from vitacost for $20 4 years ago. Still going strong.

      • Which Philips one do you have EC? I've been looking for one and figured TGG with 20% off should get me over the line, didn't really want to spend $90 but did need it to do my whole head.

        • Also interested in details of the Phillips model

        • @Matt88: I've got the Philips BT7220. I'm reasonably happy with it and the vacuum means less of a mess. It's a bit tedious cleaning the vaccum compartment out and the attachment clips look a bit flimsy. Battery life is very good and doesn't need to be charged often. It only seems to be available at ShaverShop but their customer service is excellent.

    • Agree.. lowest cut isnt low enough.

  • I picked this one up a few years back at Target in the US for $49, back when the dollar was around parity. Worth every penny then, and if you're in the market, worth every penny at this price too. Has never skipped a beat. Love it.

  • I recently purchased the 9864 is much more than this.
    http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Stainless-Trimmer-9864/dp…

I think its an updated version of the 9818 but i can't confirm this

    found it via http://malegroomings.com/the-best-beard-trimmer

It does pull hairs initially but after a few uses it seems to have stopped and now works very well.

    • correct, exact same shaver just different accessories and colour

    • Looks like the only difference over this is the black colour and the addition of a dual foil attachment.

  • Have one. Definitely recommend it!

  • +3

Purchased. I need this to do my manscaping. I will probably add a whole inch to my perceived manhood.

  • How short can you trim the hair (well, what's left of it) on your head?

I have a VS iClip and that only goes as low as 3mm.

  • +1

Beware that Wahl australia wont warranty any parts of these unit if its not bought in Australia, I bought this unit from Amazon and the power button plays up and doesnt switch off, and contact them and they wont do anything to help with it.

  • Reading the Amazon reviews this product has 1 star (18% of users). Something to be noted.
    http://www.amazon.com/Wahl-Lithium-Stainless-Groomer-9818/pr…

Found a video of the power button not turning off as well.
    https://youtu.be/kN3pP8la6zU

  • I bought this from shaver shop jus t before Xmas,
They had a try for 60days and if not happy send back

Well I sent it back whilst was a reasonable shaver it wasn't worth the $180 price tag..

    $90 not to bad tho

  • Thanks OP. My old one just started rusting. Great timing!

  • Purchased one of these when i was living in states, after going through so many remingtons and "i-trimmers" nothing has compared to this model, ive not had any issues with the power button, but must note that whilst plugged into charger the shaver cant be used

    3 comments on this

1 as it's completely SS with no rubber grip it tends to be a bit slippery to grip
2 the unit i bought last year crapped out as the charging port got a dodgy connector after about 6 months
3 I found my unit pulled the hairs on my chin often when I was trimming…

FWIW I found the sasson units lower build quality less battery life but as good at cutting and cheaper

    • Fair comments

On point 1, agree, though it's actually an improvement over their previous model with rubber grip. It's rubber grip was a hair magnet… Only way to remove it was a heavy brush or wet wipes.

    • Yep mine crapped out within year, dodgy charging port. Purchased from US so no warranty here. Very expensive lesson, pulled out my old itrimmer (going on 6 years now) and still thinks it does as good a job.

Don't be fooled by the made in USA and sleek looks. It's a product which has its issues. Power button was fiddly too. But now it just doesn't charge, tried another charger no dice.

  • I picked up one of these when it was on sale for $105 (AU) about a year or two ago & even that was great value. I haven't ever seen it come under $100 though, so this is excellent value. No problems with the actual shaver & it's still ticking over nicely on the odd occasion I run out of blades and have to use this.

  • Agree with comments on battery life - it's epic!

For easy cleaning I can recommend using either a nail brush with thick bristles or a toothbrush. Gets rid of hair better than the included brushes.

Also please for the love of God, oil the blades frequently. It'll last for years.

    • That's a different (and lower) model than this one?

    • Yeah I just noticed that. I feel I may have jumped the gun too early!

  • Bought one of these from Amazon before and had no problem using it here, lost the charger and ended up buying a replacement from Shaver Shop which had an Aussie plug. \

You can order spare blades and attachment pieces from Amazon, or if you are in a rush get them from Shaver Shops, means the unit lasts for a lot longer as the blades are usually what wear away first

Great timing, I broke my trimmer a few weeks ago so I just grew a beard and now the GF is complaining.

  • Thanks OP

  • I've never ordered from Amazon yet. How long does it take and is the free shipping online trackable? Also does anyone know if the Amazon one comes in retail packaging?
    Thanks in advance.

    • Standard shipping takes roughly 2 weeks to get delivered to Aus. The shipping isn't free, but I've included it in the $63.70USD total, and yes there is tracking of every package. I'm not entirely sure about packaging, but based on the pictures, this groomer does come in packaging that is virtually identical to that found in ShaverShop.

  • Perfect timing! I went into Shaver Shop just looking at what my options were, and the pushy sales guy tried to get me to part with $169 for this one. Thanks OP!

  • Thanks for an awesome deal, OP. I promise to manscape forever more.

  • Mine just arrived (QLD). Ordered on the 6rh.
