EOFY Car Sales - Hyundai i30

Hey guys,

So we are looking at cars to buy before the EOFY sales end. We've looked at quite a few and are thinking about buying the Hyundai i30. I'm trying to figure out if you can haggle during this period to bring the car price down. They are offering the White 2016 Hyundai i30 for $19,990 or coloured for $20,485.

We also want to get a bunch of the accessories that aren't easy for us to fit like:

  • Hyundai floor mats (trust me I know but the wife insists…) - $143.50
  • chrome side door moulding - $309.50
  • Front Mudflaps (set of 2) - $83.50
  • Rear Mudflaps (set of 2) - $83.50
  • Scuff Plates (Set of 4) - $176.75

So… I'm considering calling other Hyundai dealers to see what the best price they will offer is.

I'd really appreciate any advice for my situation.

Thanks, Matt.

  • Consider the Kia Cerato. Almost the same car owned by the same parent company. $17000 for a 2016 mode,l 16.7 for a 2015.

  • you can always haggle

  • I would haggle to get about 30% off quoted prices.

genuine car mats are easy to install and can be had for $100 on ebay, just make sure you're getting the correct ones. if you manage to get them to do 30% off all i think it is a reasonable price for something you want.

Realistically OP, you're asking for ~$800 worth of accessories. Personally, I think just throw in an offer of those included in the sale price. Don't negotiate over the phone, go down to your local dealer, decide on the colour, and be prepared to submit a written offer of the deal you want. You must be prepared to buy, there and then! Submit the written offer, make sure they have the car/colour in stock, and get the salesman to put it to his boss. Be stubborn, don't move on the offer.

  • I hate sale person laughing at a low offer price, if it get laughed I just turn away and left, I may prepare to pay more but this attitude is not what I prepare to folk out any money.

Also if I am there to waste anyone time then just be it, at the end of the day I may be paying more but good attitude of the car sale person will be worth it than the one said I wasted their time. This made me never go back and tell others not to go there for bargain as this will wasted both time.

I would suggest $17K without any add on accessories to start with then add couple of things back with the a slightly higher price let say $17.5K for everything, remember there is no lucky or not you can get the price that you are happy, it depends of their monthly, yearly sale volume. Even through they may not earn a cent selling a car to you, they may get bonus on the volume sold for month or quarter or year. They still make money.

    • Cheapest ones in the country are starting at $18,990 drive away. You're kidding yourself if you think every Hyundai dealer has left that sort of margin in their car.

      • I still believe $17.5K is possible to achieve, also the price is asking price. Car is not like our property market where there is no much negotiation room below the asking price.

        • Car is not like our property market where there is no much negotiation room below the asking price.

Or so you believe. Some cars when on sale are lucky to have $1,000 gross margin left. But I don't think you'd believe that, no matter how many times I say it.

        • @Spackbace:

Lets wait until OP come back and advice how much he/she paid?

        • @LoveBargain15:

Been looking at getting an i30 myself and I've been checking out dealers, in victoria, over the last few weeks, best price I've been able to get was 19k. I'm hoping to get it a little lower but I don't know if it's likely.

        • @droptester:

          At least $500 cheaper now

Let us know how much you are end up paying?

        • @LoveBargain15: going to visit some dealers next week, will let you know how I go!

  • I would suggest swapping the mud flaps for weather shield protectors for all 4 windows, as the buffeting and noise levels after 60km/hr are intolerable in my 2014 i30.

  • @ClearBeats, how did you go? Been to three dealers. I went to two dealers in Sydney and called one other. They were firm on the $19990 Hyundai promo and charged full price on the metallic paint. I got one dealer to throw in 4 rain shields, floor mats, boot tray and usual white plates and full tank for $20500. Others want $21000.

  • @QQPenguin, I'm also shopping around for an i30 in Sydney. Which dealer has given you the best deal as yet? I'm yet to begin calling up dealers. Maybe we can pool resources.

    • @ozs, best I got was $20500 metallic paint plus 4 rain shields, floor mats and cargo liner. This was from Bankstown. I saw Parramatta have metallic i30 for $20000 so would come out roughly the same.

      • Thanks. Will try them both and will keep you posted.

        • I eventually got the deal from Sandy at Parramatta. $20500 Inc accessories and business registration (extra) same price but closer to home. I would recommend her :)

        • Thanks. Will contact her. What colour did you get?

        • @ozs: I got the gunmetal grey. But they would do any of the metallic colours for $20k. She was really quick in coming back with a solid price. Other dealers would insist on charging me more because of the business registration. PM me if you want her email.

        • @QQPenguin: Thanks. Will revert if necessary

  • @ClearBeats how did you go with your search?

  • take a look at this offer coming up for your accessories. 4 day $500 accessory sale.
