  • I am building a house that will be completed end of this year. The Sony STRDN1070 Receiver is what I decided on months ago as it does everything I need for $797 with extra 5% off. Do you think I'll get a better price than that before the end of the year? (alternatives are Onkyo NR-646 and Yamaha RX-V679)

    • Do you think I'll get a better price than that before the end of the year?

99.99% chance, yes. The last week of 2015 had receivers discounted by 40%. 2 months ago they had another 40% off and I picked up the Onkyo TX-NR545 real cheap (I recommend this one btw). You might get lucky at the EOFY sales.

      • awesome. I might wait then. From memory, the NR646 was my choice over the NR545 as the zone 2 option had a little more features.

    • The big thing to have in the latest receivers is Dolby Atmos, this receiver does not have but you may not want however building a new house why not!

      • I still don't understand atmos at home. I get atmos at the cinema (up to 128 channels or whatever it is), Event cinema george st has it and i've been a couple of times, but at home you still have your 5 or 7 speaker set up.

I'm not a big audio guy, more of a visual guy, so I am not too fussed about lack of atmos.

        • I still don't understand atmos at home.

You're not supposed to understand it or even use it - it's just an tick-box on a 2016 "must have" feature list to justify expense of a new or upgrade purchase.

  • Anyone know if the XFiles season 10 is out or not? It is showing as for preorder, with a release date of a couple of weeeks ago. Just wondering if anyone seen instore.

    • +1

Haven't looked but you can check stock online. Seems instore at my local. And $21.58 down from $34.98? Something is funky with their 20% off calculation…

      • Ah gee yes they have change dht estatus since this morning. When I posted above it was no discount, not available instore, preorder only, and $26.98 (I think). Now it is $21.58. And some stores showing stock.

  • +1

Hmm, delivery appears to have gone up… I'm sure it used to be $1 per movie and now it's $1.69… it really starts to add up if you buy a few movies!

    • Yeah the price raised at the start of the year. In store pickup is the best bet, although their stores generally will have it, even though it will show as unavailable online for about 50% of titles I look at. According to the website, not a single store in Australia EVER had copies of that Night of the Living Dead 1990 limited edition, but ever single store I saw or heard people going to had them.

JB's live stock tracking is horrendous. Always call/go into the store.

Godfather Trilogy $23.98 (was $47.99). Good price.

    • Noticed the Goodfellas re-release (the '25th Anniversary' edition with much improved picture quality) has finally come down in price too; used to be something like $23-25.

      • Did you get Goodfellas? was it in a slip case with booklet?

        • Will let you know :P

        • @Jabba the Hutt: Thanks :) Just curious because when I was in store they had one on the shelf but it had a different SKU from the cheap one online the price was vastly different but picture of item looked identical. In the end the store manually put mine through at the same price as the cheaper online one. Only difference appeared to be the product number and the description limited edition on mine but not the other.

        • @melmac77: Standard Blu-ray case with 2 discs. No booklet. Guess that explains the price drop.

        • @Jabba the Hutt: I got lucky then Booklet slipcase and blu for the price of the cheaper version, score :) Haven't watched it as yet though

Waiting for the next BOGOF sale :)

Yeah, after they doubled the price.

    • +1 I'm waiting on this to grab dragon ball z on blu ray

  • Picked up Deadpool for $20, not bad for a movie literally released 2 weeks ago.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly trilogy is $16 under the 3 for $20 blurays.

    • The boxed trilogy is also $15.98.

I bought 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' about a month ago for $19 by itself. I'm annoyed, but now I'm trying to work out the cheapest way to get the other two movies.

      • Just bought the boxed trilogy as 'A Few Dollars More' isn't in the 3 for $20 (the other two are - strangely enough).

I guess I've got an early Christmas present for someone.
