Big, Cheap Android Phone

Hi,

I am looking for a big, relatively cheap android phone. Will spend up to $300/350, and want screen size upwards of 5 inch.

I have been looking at Xiaomi Redmi and Note, and Asus' Zenfone models, but have 2 concerns,

  1. I live in a regional area so decent reception is a necessity (and I don't know where to find this info on these phones)
  2. I am concerned with people having issues with Xiaomi's software being problematic? Something about global ROM packages?

Thank you very much in advance, I really appreciate help with this from people who have an understanding of this stuff :)

Have you looked at the Nexus 6 or 6P?

    • Yeah, looking for something a bit cheaper. I can't seem to find many places that sell the 6, and the 6p is a bit too expensive :)

Motorola Moto G 2015 will suit you.

Don't you mean 2016? The 2016 ver is bigger.

It's gone on sale very cheaply in the UK (equiv of $300 AUD).

I wonder if Australians can get it for $300 ish.

      (spoiler: HAAH! you wish)

      • Thanks! I didn't realise the 2016 was out. I had the original Moto G and thought it was a good phone

        • Or Moto X Play if it's on sales. You just missed 20%off eBay sale :/

  • Mate everybody wants upwards of 5 inches but don't hold your breath…

  • No idea myself, but Ozb community seem to like this phone, if you are optus and want local support and warranty could be an option (Oppo F1 $179 @ BIGW from June 16th) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/252268

  • My suggestion based on personal experience is to go for asus zenfone 2. I have a 64GB ROM, 4 GB RAM, 2.3 GHZ one. It is a beast. Bought it for around 400$. Due to the release of zenfone 3, the prices might have come down. If they haven't you can compromise on the ROM/RAM/Speed and get the cheaper one. I bought mine on ebay and works perfectly.

    • Thanks! :) I thought these looked good… How do you find reception with it? Ever any issues?

      • Just my personal opinion, the reception is definetely better than my galaxy s7 edge. It can be something to do with the cellular network as well. Also, my galaxy keeps losing the wifi connection, but zenfone stays solid. Not sure what the reason is. Having said that, the screen of zenfone 2 is no match to galaxy s7 edge. You get what you pay.

Buy a redmi note 3 from eglobal or vickmall, order one that does NOT state "Chinese version/ROM". You will receive the global ROM, factory sealed.

It will have no problems ongoing updates. Just stick sim in and you are good. Best bang for your price range.

  • I still reckon the Ulefone Power is an awesome deal. Battery lasts 2 weeks!!

    cAU$220 - 7.5% Cashrewards on Aliexpress = cAU$204.

    • Cpu is a lot weaker though
