50mm is considered normal, not wide.

    • well for some of us 50mm is wide ;)

    • +2

Yes, it's an odd description by Ryda. Perhaps what they mean is it's wide for a prime portrait lens. Most prime portrait lens's are 50mm, this is 35mm. Of course multiple by 1.5 for the full frame (35mm ) equivalency.

  • Just got myself one! :D Have also been looking at this one for a while.

I already own this. Great lens.

Do you think the refurbs are worth it with 20% off and one year genuine warranty?

Thanks OP! Ordered the 50mm 1.8g and the code also works.

This lens is great. Used it at a wedding over the weekend in a really dark function room and it worked a treat.

  • Hey guys!! I m really confuse To go for 50mm or 35mm. Will be using for landscape n portrait images please give ur feedback so I can decide on it. Anyone using d750 n this lens let me know as well. Thanks

    • +1

Definitely go with the 35mm, you will find 50mm far too narrow for landscape images.

With that said, the 50mm would be more suitable for portrait though I think the 35mm is more versatile overall.

      • hey Mate!! thanks for the reply..really great help..i am thinking to buy zoom lens as well..do you think 55-300mm f4.5 will be good lens to start with and i am getting good offer on tamron 70-200mm f2.8 around $650 from a friend so hard decide.. money wise i cant buy tamron one right now but in a month time i can but i can nikon one day..it would be great if you could suggest…

Why not get a 35mm for full frame or just trying to save money? Just seems a bit odd since you got a 2k camera but skimping on the lens when it seems better to go the other way around.

      • Hey Mate!! Thanks for the reply!! i wasn't sure which one would be better 50mm or 35mm on full frame camera as i am still learning just bought it recently.. but appreciate your help..cheers

any feedback between nikon 55-300 f4.5 and tamron 55-200 f2.8…. i am getting tamron one for $650 but cant afford it now do u think i should wait n take that one or buy nikon 55-300 and learn on that..thanks

        • +1

If you're just starting to learn, why not just buy a 50mm 1.8 and make the next decision later? It's half the price of 35mm 1.8 full frame version and is always easy to sell if you change your mind.

Thats for the 50mm f1.8, $207. Good for general use and thats the direction id go,my stay on lens is a 35mm (i got crop sensor)

35mm not quite wide enough for landscape imo, apart from that i cant comment since its not a focal length i generally use.

For zoom if youre on a budget you can try the nikon 70-300 f4-5.6, id prefer that tamrom 70-200 f2.8 though but its a heavy lens though. That 55-300 you mentioned is for crop.

        • @bhter: thanks mate for the help!! Cheers

        • @zorrt: hey mate!! Just got lucky and bought a second hand tamron 70-200 but it's older version for $300 on eBay I think it's decent price for decent lens!! I can use it for learning n then spend more on better lens 😊

As zorrt said, this 35mm lens listed is for crop-sensor. Go for full frame lenses since you're using a D750. If I were you, I would go for a wide angle zoom lens for "general" landscape (Sigma 24-30mm F2) and a 50mm lens (either 1.8 or 1.4) for portrait.

      • alright cheers csb!! will try having look at sigma 24-30mm f2 and check my budget..Thanks again for the help

        • No worries. Just remember that your camera is Full Frame, so go for full frame. These are full frame - Nikon FX range, Sigma DG range, Tamron Di. Crop sensor - Nikon DX, Sigma DC, Tamron Di II. Generally, the higher the aperture the better (e.g. F1.4, F2.8). Good luck!

@csb: thanks mate!! Its makes thing easier now cheers…:)

      • hello guys hello ozbargainer~ I'm just getting in this area, can I ask if the nikkor 50mm 1.4 is full frame lenses or APS-C? I'm thinking to get an D750, and most of the case will be using it for portrait. If you guys could give me some advice on lenses that will be appreciated.:)
Do you think it is worth to pay $400 more to get a sigma 50mm art? thank you very much.

        • Both older Nikon AF 50mm f1.8D and f1.4D, and both newer Nikon AF-S f1.8G and f1.4G are full frame lenses. That means it will work on full frame and APS-C. It really depends on a few factors when deciding which 50mm lens you want to get. The two biggest factor are budget and how serious are you about photography. If you're dead serious and have extra cash lying around, I reckon the Sigma 50mm 1.4 is pretty good, sharper and less distortion than a lot of 50mm out there. The only thing I worry about for third party lens is usually the compatibility issue. But if that doesn't bother you, then Sigma 50mm 1.4 is the one to go. One downside would be the size, it's bigger than the Nikon 50mm. To be honest with you, I'll be happy with any of the 50mm G or Sigma. They're all great lenses. Do some research to see which will be more suitable to you!

@csb: thanks buddy, consider the $ and downsides, I probably will start with D750+50mm 1.4G kit first.
