Omg. Sparkling ale. Strong and delicious! Drink with caution. It's so bloody terrific

Coopers built their own gas turbine power station to run their brewery, and they export excess electricity into the SA power grid
So you can get pissed and save the planet at the same time

    • +2

I think that's more a reflection of SA's power prices than anything else :|

      • that and the lack of reliability of the SA power grid

Tried on the Dunkel - got this error message (any suggestions?)

Promotion Code GDOPL98T has not been applied - order does not qualify

    • have you logged in / registered?

      • Thanks - all fixed :)

Now to find a store that has stock of the Dunkel

        • dunkel is in-store only, no click+collect :(

        • Hasn't worked for me. Logged in. No go.

        • @DavRo:

          try a new account? :)

        • @tonester:

          Not working for me either.

        • @tonester: Another challenge is that after calling them and told there is stock in Port Melbourne it still won't let me order online (as you advised). But they did confirm that my local stores have no stock.
So it seems I need to call to check each stores availability as the online system doesn't seem to advise stock levels whether they have it or not, regardless of if I can order it online (Port Melbourne shows no stock when trying to order still - would be handy if it said In Store Only with stock available).

50km trip for a 12 pack of great beer - hmmmmm (still tempting)

        • @locutus_of_bris:

if you called port melbourne and there was stock, then couldn't they be put on hold for you?

else enter postcode to choose your local store for availability details

note: apparently i bought balwyn's last bottles of dunkel :)

        • @tonester: I called the national number and they searched for me, but their searches didn't line up with what it showed me as being available.

If I'm heading that way I'll ring ahead and get them to keep it aside yes :)

  • It is not a bad beer, but I wouldn't buy it, I bought a 6p awhile ago, I thought it lacked flavour, I am used to beer with hop bitter. You need to carefully pour it into a glass and not drink out of the bottle because of the sediment even though it is heat treated and the yeast should be dead it causes at least in my case some unease. Certainly it is a very good price for it.

flavour doesn't just mean hops, hops don't necessarily give complexity

always invert (or roll if you must) - some of the best beers are bottle-conditioned :)

      • +2

Officially you 'gently rock' the bottle side to side as stated on coopers webpage for sparkling, PA you 'gently roll'.

      • Gawd I hate when I buy a Coopers & the person serving stirs up the yeast. It's just some marketing wankery like sticking lime/lemon wedges in Corona. Yeast is an unpleasant tasting laxative. which is why they use strains which cake together at the bottom, so it seperates from the beer.

        Grrrrr

        • +7

          marketing wankery?

lime is an essential addition for Corona because otherwise it would be completely tasteless!

    • +2

You have to drink the yeast its not going to cause you unease (well not the majority) Millions of germans arent this time wrong. :)
Roll the bottle to extract the extra vitamins B2,

    • +3

Coopers are bottle fermented, it is supposed to have sediment and they let you know how to 'prep' the bottle before drinking on each relevant beer's page on their website.
Bottle fermentation is also why they have a 'best after' date not a 'best before'.

    • +2

Coopers bottle condition their beer, they don't pasteurise. This means you get live yeast in the bottle. In fact you can use it in your home brew if you treat it right. Don't feel uneasy about drinking live yeast. Most of the modern micro breweries don't pasteurise. They may however filter or fin their brew to remove the yeast and particulate proteins so it looks clear.

It's bloody marvellous having such a great choice of hop driven styles available now but it's nice to occasionally go back to the classics. The sparkling ale has loads of hop bitterness, it's just not a modern dry hopped IPA/APA.

      • +1

Knew there was a better term for it, bottle conditioning is the right one, just couldn't think of it.
I'm yet to dabble in home brew, on the to do list, too much to learn!

        • +2

Oh man, you don't want to start home brewing. You'll put on kilos and your liver will get all fatty. It's a deliciously terrible thing to do to yourself :)

      • Their conditioning strains aren't the same as their primary fermentation strains, so culturing from the bottle won't get quite the same results unfortunately

        • Coopers actually recommend in some of their homebrew recipes that you use the yeast from their bottles, so you most certainly can use it to good effect.

  • Be nice if the code worked on the Samuel Adams

    • it works on any order $50+ :)

  • no 1st choice near me, just vintage cellars, bws and dans. …. wonder if dans will step up the plate and match the coopers ?

    • sometimes they accept other retailers' vouchers :)

  • Wouldn't work for me. Got the message: "* Promotion Code GDOPL98T has not been applied - order does not qualify"
I'm logged in too. Any fix for this?

    • try a new account? :)

      • Same message. Not working. Targeted offer maybe?

    • worked here
Registered then applied code and ordered Coopers beer!

Very nice post indeed! Looks like I will have to put off my plan to cut back on spending money on booze.

Have to laugh at their websites side-banner advertising when I clicked on the Dunkel. "Like this? Try this" and points to Becks and Heineken. Even if they were to ignore the different qualitative realm in which those beers exist surely they realise they at extreme ends of the types of tastes involved. Baffling.

Can anyone tell me if the voucher is generic? I have registered previously and I note it says something about only being able to use for your first online order and within 14 days.

    • it's generic for your 1st online order :)

  • The link to the Dunkel now goes to 'Sorry, we can't find that page.'.
It was there a few minutes ago, before I went to sign up…

    • your location must have sold out in the meantime :(

      try in-store direct

  • Damn, sparkling's at $53/slab when I click through (Victoria)

  • +1

Estrella Inedit's a really great beer!

  • Sorry for the dumb question, but how do I choose to click and collect? The code applied correctly and is charging $43 a slab, but it's forcing me to have the slab delivered for $6.95.

    • +2

can only c+c in vic :(

      use the voucher in-store :)

  • Mmmm coopers sparkling. Way tastier than a berocca!

  • Coopers Pale Ale is $50 as well for a slab for $40 is cheap as for that!

  • +1

"Promotion Code GDOPL98T has not been applied - order does not qualify."

    • Just create a new account and should work.

    • I have a new account from this deal and I'm getting the same error when trying to buy the Coopers Sparkling. In NSW FWTW

Edit: I found why it won't work. Terms of voucher say this:

Promo code is valid on ONLY your first online transaction

Doh. I'll have to go in store.

Bit of a circlejerk around Coopers beer, They taste like every other commercial lager. I recently tried their stout and it was awful

    • +1

      Lager?
Maybe the coopers lager does. did the stout taste like lager?

    • +2

Thanks for breaking up the circle jerk with your bad opinion and misinformation

      • I've tried all coopers styles and found them boring. The stout comment had nothing to do with the lager comment, I added it because it was my most recent coopers-letdown

    • +2

fyi stout is ale not lager :)

      • It was a different unconnected sentence. It didn't mean i've only tried stout.

Deal appears to be state specific. Please update the title.

  • Ferran Adrià's Inedit beer isn't the gastronomic world first it's claimed to be, but it is a very rare thing - a good beer from Spain.

Hmm.. what does this say about Spanish beer in general?

  • I'm usually a beer man, but it's worth looking at other options with this voucher.

For example: Talisker Storm would be $65 (currently $88.90 at Dan's)

  • "*Promotion Code GDOPL98T has not been applied - order does not qualify"

    "Delivery fee: $6.95"

  • balwyn had exactly twelve bottles of dunkel left
and with a 1000pt flybuys offer effectively made them
    $53-$10-$5=$38 or $3.17/bt
    cheapest ever - best before: 09.12.16 :)

  • coopers sparkling ale, good stuff. Gets me drunk after 3 bottles lol

  • FFS! No stores in NT !

  • Some decent deals on scotch whiskey to be had with this coupon, I bought 3 bottles. Lagavulin 16, Glen Grant 10, and third ones a secret.

  • Still working ?
