Photographer for Baby

Not sure which category this fits in so posting in general.

We have a 5 week old bub and the wife really wants to get some professional photos of him taken.
I've done some googling and most photographers seem to want to charge the earth, any tips on finding someone who will do a reasonable job for a reasonable price?

We're in Perth.

Thanks

  • My Mrs does it (has done for a couple of years now), but it does depend on your budget tbh. I've seen some on Facebook promoting themselves on every BnS page, and they look horrible!

What sort of budget do you have in mind?

  • I've found that you generally get what you pay for. My misses paid $1800 and he photos are great (Erin Elizabeth was her name). But yeah, that's a lot of dough!!

Oh wow. We paid $450 for our (well $250 as we had a $200 gift certificate).

Was a young mum living in the burbs of Melbourne. I was very skeptical at first, but very happy with the results.

For the amount, we had a 4 hour shot (stopping regularly to feed our two week old), 10 hi res photos on a USB and $50 credit (think we got one 10x15 for that credit).

The print we got was added to the 10 photos on USB (so got 11 total), so if we had gotten a photo book or something, possibly would have gotten more for what she was charging for each extra photo (can't remember the exact price(.

      • Thanks poor photographer :-(

  • check groupon. it has some really cheap deals. some for even 25 dollars. not sure of the quality of their work but you can check their websites or ring up and ask for sample work.

$25 for a One-Hour Newborn or Maternity Photoshoot with $400 Print Credit at Image Style Studio (Up to $1,900 Value)

these deals are there to milk you and you'll end up spending to much more than 400 for these. $25 is just for 1 hr photo shoot and then they will show you all the beautiful pictures and if you decide to choose one for print - their price will start somewhere like 1000 (for which you may use your 400 credit). they will not provide you all the images on disk and even if so then forget full resolution (something tiny 4x6).

i would probably stay away from these deal. i've experienced a similar deal and would not recommend to anyonne.

  • The bargains are the photographers who are not so established or are not relying on photography as their sole source of income (i.e. their main job is not photography related…. or they're retired). The problem is it's hard to find them as they often rely on word of mouth and it can be pretty hit and miss as to whether you will get a good result from it.

The plus side is that it's not a one-time-moment like a wedding, so the risk is lower. If you don't like them, you can always hire someone to take new ones of your baby.
