Hey Hey!

I have just received an update on this Acer Chromebook.
It says it is eligible to be sent to Australia.
But when I put it in my cart with Sydney address then it cannot be shipped…
Does it have to be a special suburb now?

  • Looks like a great deal! Seems quite similar to the Toshiba Chromebook 2.

    • Yeah, please check up the discussions on the Toshiba 2:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/244092

      • Yup, jumped on that and bought it for the GF. She loves it, only issue is that Onedrive doesn't integrate well.
        Otherwise these Chromebooks are fantastic.

        • Euch, one drive? Dude so tied to windows it's hellish. The point of a chromebook IS google so Google drive is the way to go (and works in any browser on any device) and just night and day compared to the mess Windows has made.

          @THEFLYGUY:
Onedrive can do anything Google Drive can do, 2016 Office is far better than Google apps and my partner and I both have a 1TB of Onedrive space to use.

        • @BTRaynes: Personal choice I know, but Microshafts UX is appalling to me, I prefer the zero licence cost and less bloat of Google Drives apps. The point of a chromebook is to USE Google products, one drive will always suck on it as Microsoft doesn't design it to be that portable, and most of it requires a Windows ecosystem. On the other hand Drive works well everywhere as only designed for a browser and device agnostic.

  • Shipping work to our address in Tasmania.
Are you trying to ship to a PO Box??? as sometimes they won't ship to it.

I feel 15 inches is too big for chrome books, as I feel people use mainly for browsing while commuting on the train or holiday?

  • It still amazes me that these things are basically designed to be cloud connected yet none of them contain even a $10 3G modem internally… seems like it should be standard hardware otherwise just, you know, buy a useful laptop?

    • i've never owned or seen a chromebook, but when i read about it being all cloud connected software and none of that typical window style application installation and running things from your desktop sort of interface… i wondered about that modem thing.

In general I would rather a normal netbook that can connect ot the cloud when required and work offline, but I assume by having just a cloud connected 'chromebook' they run alot zippier? Unfortunately I assume you can't then go ahead and install 3rd party software all over it?

p.s i also feel in this day and age having an inbuilt 4g/3g sim card slot/modem is a must - in this sort of connected world. Surely they could work towards lowering the cost fo production so that for example the wifi verson of an ipad doesnt cost a hundred, two hundred less than a 3g model…

Its to keep costs low. Why include an internal modem, jacking up the price another $50, when you can buy a 3G wifi modem or hotspot from your phone?

      • -1

Yeah, but Chrome laptops aren't that cheaper than Windows laptop.

        • +2

If they are not then could you please link a ~2kg, 15" with FHD screen at ~$370 AU that runs Windows.

        • And they still wouldn't have an internal modem

When was the last time you used any laptop without being connected to internet? You can work offline on a Chromebook.

Good deal, and a quality Chromebook, but now that Android Apps will run on them, I for one would want a touch display on my next Chromebook!

  • Just check before you buy to see if it will be able to run android apps or not. There isn't much point in buying a chromebook atm unless it is going to get app support.

  • Other benefits of Chromebooks is inbuilt security and automatic updates. Very fast boot up - under 10 secs and if your phone is on you don't need to type in your password, one click and you're up and running. Very happy with my Toshiba Chromebook.

  • Good find - I was looking at this last week when it cost USD20 more.
