Do Chinese imported phones get taxed?

Hi everyone I'm looking at buying a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro off aliexpress, but I'm just wondering if I will be taxed? I am also wondering if there is an increased chance if I use DHL as my shipping method?

Cheers

Why would a chinese phone be different to any other phone that's being imported?

I think if you bring it in via a courier like DHL, you will almost certainly be taxed. But don't trust randoms on the internet like me, ring DHL and ask them.

    Hi Condog,

In Australia, the GST free threshold for imports is currently $1000.
Any goods imported under this threshold will not be subject to tax, regardless of the shipping method.
This applies to goods bought for personal use.
