Bad Experience with TravelSimsDirect.com - Warning! (TSD)

My experiences with this company. I ordered 2 SIMs for travel to Japan. Supposed to be first 200mb of the day on 4g, the rest of day on 3g. From their website:

"Unlimited Data for 7 days, 14 or 30 days (First 200mb of each day at 4G speeds followed by unlimited 3G data)"

This wasn't what I got. The first 200mb was fine, then the connection was shaped - streaming video didn't work, and images on webpages didn't load at all.

I emailed TSD and they claimed dotcomo congestion. I believe this was false however.

My SIM had gone over 200mb and was shaped/extremely slow. My friend in the same hotel room who had barely used his SIM that day had normal fast speeds and no issues what so ever (this was in a hotel in Shinjuku away from the busy parts).

The opposite situation happened on the Shinkansen between Kyoto and Tokyo - my friend had gone over his 200mb and gotten shaped/extremely slow speeds while mine was fine (I hadn't used it much that day).

I asked TSD for a refund and was told on June the 1st by 'Chris' that they'd refund me within 24 hours. This never happened. Despite follow up emails and messaging their rep on OzBargain I received no further replies.

I've had to lodge a dispute with my credit card company due to this.

My opinion would be buyer beware.

    If you can not get a fix through them go get opera and set it to data saver.

    I also experienced this last year in Japan from the same company. The unlimited 3G is not at 3G speed, it is very slow.

  • I have to say I had the exact same experience with TSD as AJFox!

    I bought a sim card for the US - when I arrived the sim didn't work, there was no credit and it wasn't even activated.

    Tried contacting TSD and took them 2 days to reply. They promised to issue a full refund within 24 hours which never happened!

    Luckily I paid via Paypal so am lodging a dispute through their process and hopefully that will be resolved soon.

    I would definitely NOT recommend TSD and will never order from them again. Shocking customer service!

  • I ordered a sim back in March and still have not received it.
    Customer service keeps advising that they will post it out soon but it never arrived.
    They now ignore all my email request so basically keeping my money.
    Do you think this business should be banned from Oz bargain? I mean, even if i receive the product. Reviews tell me that it's not even usable.

  • Avoid this dodgy company at all costs. Still waiting on my refund! Express post delivery was several days late, activation instructions weren't provided and been more than a week since they said refund would be issued. I've messaged several times on Facebook but haven't heard a thing. Never using them again. Invoice ID: WC-5853

    If you buy a US SIM card, go to an AT&T store and they'll set you up with 6GB for $60USD and unlimited calls/messaging. These con artists charge charge twice as much without any customer service whatsoever.
