Nikon CMOS Sensor Equivalent of 20mm F1.7 II Micro 4/3 Lens - 35mm 1.8?

Hi all,
I'm enjoying my D3300 picked up in the amazing deals at the end of last year. I also picked up the 50mm 1.8 lens with it, again from an ozbargain steal deal.

I was just going through some old photos and saw some of my old m43 photos taken with the panny 20mm 1.7 II pancake on a (now) pretty old GM1 camera.
Holy smokes they just pop. They make the 50mm shots on my d3300 look ordinary. The sharpness is outstanding and I can't say much other than that the pictures just look better, and 'pop'

So I'm left wondering if there's an equivalent for my Nikon D3300?

Wish I could just use an adapter but the lens won't focus and the sensor is slightly bigger so I'd get black borders…

Any thoughts much appreciated.

  • Sell the D3300 for a profit and buy a Panasonic m43?? Digital photography is moving to mirrorless anyway and m43 system has excellent lens choice for cheap price.

    • It's tempting. I could definitely make a profit but I enjoy a lot of other aspects of the d3300, very familiar with the controls after using Nikon many years ago, I think that's why I sold the gm1

    20mm on a 4/3 is equivilant to a 40mm on non crop 35mm sensor.

the closest would be a 30mm for a crop sensor dslr.
I recommend the Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC. it is for a cropped sensor. They go for about $400 new

    • Thanks for the recommendation.
Any experience on how it compares to the panny?

      • hard to make direct comparisons because they are rather different lenses.

Optically the sigma 30mm is a good lens.

The Panasonic 20mm f/1.7 is an excellent, excellent lens
