Time-Lapse Photography: How to Attach Smartphone to Tripod?

Basically controlling the DSLR with Smartphone, and it needs to be attached to the tripod fro 5-6 hours. How do you guys do it or any idea from brain storming?

  • Not that I do it this time lapse stuff but what about buying an el-cheapo case and then cut some slots in the case so you can run velco tape around it and a leg of the tripod - would end up a bit like the old cases you could get that belts went through, kinda.

or something simple like a plastic zip lock bag and punch a hole in the bag so you can tie it to the tripod.

    • Holy Batman!

      • I backed it myself and it is still in production, but things are getting close to shipping.

        • Good on you sir! Let me know after you test drive it for a while. :)

I cried at 24+ hours of battery life…

  • Use rubber bands criss crossed over the phone.

You know those leather/felt/vinyl pouches that lenses often come with but usually just get left in the box? Loop the drawstring around something on the tripod head, and sit the phone in that.

  • Use an old sand bag or hacky sack

  • Duct tape :-)

I misread and thought you wanted to mount your phone as the camera. Screw it, I'll share my method for that anyway.

Kraft peanut butter lid plastic carves real nice.

  • Well I found that the thread on my 3LeggedThing tripod fit the same thread that was on my selfie stick… so I just unscrewed the phone attachment of my selfie stick and put it on my tripod

  • If your tripod has a hook for adding weight, find something with a pouch and hook.

I use an old Nitendo DS padded bag to hold my intervolometer then use the carabine to attach it to my tripod hood. I have also used it with my phone.
