      I thought TCL was in the hisence league….better than Soniq…again speaking from hearsay knowledge. .keen to get the view of an SME….looking to replace 42" plasma for parents since it has developed a vertical line of dead pixels. ….they only watch TV through a set top box and so no gaming requirements

        I've been trying to get my parents to replace their 42" 720p TV, which has its only HDMI ports broken, but they don't understand why they need a new TV. It hurts my soul.

          haha. it's tough. If I suggested a $3000 Samsung, that would definitely scare them away. $999 for a TV (although Soniq) is a more likely sell.

          @edshays: Don't let the brand snobs dissuade you from checking out Hisense & TCL sets, both are Tier 1 manufacturers in China & make excellent TVs.

          I agree with you. Hisense & TCL are definitely top tier TV makers, and IMO way better than Soniq and other generic brands.

          Not sure if you have ever put a TCL or Hisense next to a LG, Samsung or Sony of the same vintage.

          If you have, other than for purely price reasons, you wouldn't have chosen the TCL or Hisense - the picture quality of the other sets is far better.
          Even when they use the same panel, the software driving the 3 major brands is much better.
          TCL and Hisense cut corners to build to a low price point.

          Typically their viewing angles are also horrid.

          Don't take my word for it though - look at Whirlpool or a reputable review web site.

          I haven't seen TCL or Hisense beating LG, Samsung or Sony in awards for the best picture quality or best TV…

          Sure TCL and Hisense give you a big TV for small dollars - but they are not good quality in any sense compared to the 3 major brands…

          If you want a cheap big TV, buy a Bauhn. At least if you don't like it you can take it back to Aldi for a full refund.

          Soniq, Kogan, TCL and Hisense all cheap rubbish TV's….
