  • Including store credit promo, vendor cashback and credit card pice matching I got 6TBs for $274 in the recent EOFY sales.

Great price on 8s, but not the best dollar per GB

If you buy 3 you break the GST free threshold too..

    • Buy in multiple batches so you dont go over the threshold

  • if you want two, consider:
    http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1206776-REG/wd_wdblwe0…

    $750 AUD + $70 delivery

it specifies the drives are WD Red.

its the normal price so not realy a deal but availiable after this deal is over and at most (US) retailers vs $1000+ AUD from local retailers.

    • I think there's no guarantee that WD ship the red drives. I remember reading somewhere that WD can fit any drives available, so if you get the red then you're just lucky. Most likely it's green drives inside.

      • WD doesnt make Green drives anymore. Some of the new WD Blue range are 5400, some 7200, though.
WD only sells 8TB in Red, Red Pro, Purple and Gold. Though I have seen speculation about a undocumented Blue 8TB

That said the product in the link provided specifies WD Reds. However the new Reds are 5400 and only Red Pro are 7200.

        • Yes saw that WD Reds in the description. I think I'll order it and if it doesn't come with WD Reds I'll ask for return, B&H is a good seller. Thanks!

  • 8tb nas drive? So these drives avoid that tech where it heats up the disc in an enclosed space of helium?

Too scared of reliability of drives using that tech.

    • I guess we'll wait for the backblaze reports? :)

    • That's HAMR (Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording). There's no drives on the market yet using that technology.

Helium is currently used in drives because it reduces compared to air, allowing the manufacturers to squeeze more platters into the same space.

      • Cheers. So. Even without HAMR the 8tb Seagate return rate is shocking (going by Amazon). That's a concern.
