    pretty decent IMO

it has 4GB DDR2-667 (2 x 2GB) which is more than $100+ RRP street anyway

    11n = good

i have questions about the GL40/4500 video but it seems to have more pluses than minuses

extended warranty at $169 is a tad expensive but reflects the Acer quality or lack thereof

    • Yep, it's an Acer, so factor that into any decision on price and value :)

If that's meant to be sarcasm then it's extremely ill informed!

I see dozens of Acer machines on a monthly basis; and in fact I'm using the same one now that I have for 3 years without issue. It was so well spec'd for a <$1k laptop back then that it's still viable now! Allow me to educate you, since you seem to be labouring under the misapprehension that since they are cheaper they are automatically functionally or reliably inferior.

They are extremely well spec'd for the price, Acer does this with their sheer buying power and practice of sacrificing form for function. They are somewhat utilitarian in superficial looks, thus not as pretty as Asus et.al, but they are much cheaper and every bit as reliable! This comes from vast professional experience, not uninformed speculation.

Take home message: If you're considering an Acer machine, just weigh the pro's & con's of the specs for the dollar, branding is insignificant! :)

wow dozens… your experience tops everything… mate I used to repair laptops and have seen literally hundreds if not thousnds.

nsw and vic education uses mainly acers and they are pretty decent machines i must admit but they do not reflect the average acer you buy at Harvey Normal or JB

by the same token I know many multinationals who only use HP laptops and they are vastly different to the the crud you see at Myers and such

I have a HP Elitebook… I logged a job via online chat at lunch. They guy rang me at 8.30am next day to come to my site to do a repair.

Would I recommend a $599 HP Compaq just because my $2,000+ Elitebook is good? No because the customer service for a HP Compaq from HN would be different.

By the same token do I recommend Acer because the work Extensas are ok? Nup.

          • @tonyjzx: stewballs was simply commenting from his experience, and if he's had good experience from Acer that doesn't warrant a sarcastic reply. I've also used lots of Acer laptops and have found them to be reliable machines, especially given the cost.

  • It looks like one of their business lines 'Extensa'.

    Good deal.

  • you have to weigh this up yourself.. $100 more, only $25 more for 2yrs warranty, less ram, hdmi, newer architecture…

  • This is only a Pentium Dual Core, not a Core2Duo. You'll find that C2D's are getting cheaper with the arrival of Core i3/i5 etc.

I've got a slightly different model Acer and I'm fairly happy with it, but I recently read an article about the rate of return for different laptops after 12 months, and Toshiba and Asus did better than Acer. HP and Compaq were worst though.
