I think this is nation wide, as I was in Tea Tree Plaza in SA and they had a bunch of $4 Amiibo figures as well. They were ticketed as well.
Is it only animal crossing? Or mii brawler, fit trainer and the other stuff they can't sell?
Or is it Samus, Mario's, link, etc?
Only the following non-Animal Crossing amiibo figures are $4:
- Captain Olimar
- Dark Pit
- Paulentena
- Bowser Jr.
- Dr. Mario
- Splatoon Boy
- Splatoon Girl
- Mii Brawler
The rest are either $10 or $17 each.

apart from EB games who is still going to carry in a store new Amiibos … JB is the only one that seems to want to keep selling them the other seem to be running out stock.
Aside from niche stores and EB/JB, probably Big W for not much longer.
Sold my complete Amiibo set, the Splatoon new colours, and summer Isabelle were my last straws. Actually rebought Olimar last week though for $4. One of the better looking ones imo.

I agree releasing multiples of the same character is pure opportunism from the big N.
They will probably eventually release all known Pokemon as Amiibos. The trade marks are already there!
About $800…. So no. All bought on launch days Inc Gold Mario. The value dropped with these sorts of sales….
