HP Photosmart B109n Wireless Multifunction $79 at Officeworks

230

HP Photosmart B109n only $79 at Officeworks both online and walk in. Closest on staticice is $112.75. RRP is $179 and I can confirm JB and Myer still have it at this price (in-store price). It uses HP564 inks which are fairly cheap at about $18 each. Features that stand out are wireless connectivity and the screen on the front with touch buttons. Seems to have average reviews but at this price the value is almost unbeatable.

  • Anyone know if you're able to refill the cartridges yourself? I have an old Canon bubblejet and save heaps of dosh by refilling it with the syringe type refills.
Does it come with ink supplied?

    • According to this site: http://www.inkbank.com.au/category24_1.htm they can. It does come with ink cartridges but I believe they are half or a third full like most other printers.

      • Ink carts that come with printers are not and have never been "half full". This is a common misconception due to the fact the printer uses a bit of ink when it first turns on priming the lines etc etc

and to the OP. Please fix up your post. JBHIFI do not have it @ $179 and have not for the last month or so. It's been $118 for a while.

Other than that, Damn good printer for the price. Much cheaper than a canon to run, especially if you use the 564XL inks.

        • I walked into JB yesterday and I saw it there for $179. I asked the guy what's the best he could do and he said no less than $150. But yeah online seems to be much cheaper.

          • @navman: Aka they were lying to you; knowing they can do better than that price.

        • Dude that's completely false. They have been selling printers (Laser & ink) with half or even a quarter full cartridges for years. These are called "Trial Cartridges".

I have a brother laser printer box right here and it's standard yield cartridge does 1,500 pages but on the box it says the included cartridge will do 800 pages.. Hmmmm.

          • @Koonit: Where in my post did I mention laser toner cartridges? Talking about INK/DYE based printers.

  • I had a look at the specs at HP, the scanners pretty basic. What I really need is to work out the finer points of a wireless bridge with usb.

  • I've got a HP C4380 which looks pretty similar, if the wireless drivers work the same then unfortunately they are painful, especially the set up. Still a good price though, especially with cheaper cartridges.

  • Anyone know if it does wireless SCANNING as well a printing ?

    • the C4380 does so I imagine this would.

  • Does this print directly on CDs/DVDs?

    • +1 - Want to know the same thing. I would have bought this unit now but need CD print feature.
I will be buying the IP4700 I think. Lacks wireless but print quality seems to be really good.

  • does anyone know if you can do scan-to-email with this unit?

    • I doubt it would have this feature "as well as the CD print I posted above".
Scan to email uses an email client "with SMTP settings" that will generate an email and send it through. This printer looks to small and too cheap to be able to achieve this.

  • I wouldn't touch HP printers with a ten foot pole due to the cost of consumables…

    • As discussed here and mentioned in all reviews of this printer, it uses individual cartridges which are very comparable to Canons cost per cartridge but HP have managed over 3 times the page count per cartridge.

      Costs for cartridges are (roughly);
564 (Standard yield, 250 pages) $16 per cartridge
564XL (High yield, 750 pages $26 per colour. Black XL (800 pages) $47.

Possibility to refill these cartridges for much less too! Haven't got that information though.

  • +1

It does scan wirelessly and really easy to setup using mac.

    • It comes with a mac driver cd which u can use on windows too.

  • Had this printer for about a month now.
It's very good, easy to set up (easier with a mac than my other laptop), got it with my macbook pro with the printer rebate.
Wireless printing is awesome. Great price too

  • I just bought one, O.W (Nunawading, Vic) didnt even have it on display, but they did have the more expensive version with a bigger lcd for $155 on shelf display—so after i showed them their advertised price on their site, they found the right printer in their store. It moves alot more during printing compared to my recent canon mp270—i can notice the table wriggling with it operating now. Furthermore, the store had the other model of the printer with the same specs probs but no wireless function for $89 dollars. The inks are very cheap, I checked and they were around 16 dollars for each color, and u can get them in a value pack of cyan, magenta and yellow for around 40 dollars too. I am pleased that hp included all the necessary acessories, i.e usb cable—unlike other brands. The touchscreen is very responsive, and makes u feel so modern using it. And no, it doesnt print on disk media (cd, dvds). =) the bargain came @ the right time, just before the mid year exams—when i need it most. Thanks NAVMAN.

    • Heh, no worries mate.

  • UPDATE: The thing is pretty damn fast compared to my old canon and brother inkjet printers, or any other printers i have had (samsung color laser included). So surprised @ how it can churn out 6 pages in about 20 seconds. Very happy purchase indeed. =)
