Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro - International Version

Hi all, so I've been swayed by the large number of people on here who sing the praises of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.

I've been holding out for the international version with Band 28, which now appears available (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/International-Version-Xiaomi-…), but I have a couple of questions.

-I keep seeing people talk about "flashing" these phones. Sorry, I'm a complete noob, what does that mean? Do I have to do it? I found this online - http://en.miui.com/thread-235865-1-1.html which I should be comfortable to follow if that is right.

-If a Xiaomi screen cracks, what happens? Can my local kiosk fix it?

Thanks so much :)

  • I know nothing either but this seems informative:

    • Cool, thanks for the link.

People who believe the delivered operating system is inadequate, old, slow, etc will flash their rom.
Equate it to, say, having Windows Vista installed on your PC, but you think you'll try installing Windows 10 or Linux to improve the experience.

It's not likely your local kiosk will have spare Xiaomi screens, and would need to order from China. They could probably follow a youtube vid as a guide to fixing it, or just fumble through based on generally knowing stuff about phones.

    • OK great thank you. It almost seemed like it was necessary to do in order to get it to work. Glad that's not the case.

      Yep that's what I thought. Let's hope I don't break it!

  • +1

Miui is perfectly fine and easy to use. Those who want to customise things have the option to do that, but for most it wouldn't be needed.

    • Brilliant, you've put my mind at ease. I'll order shortly :)

      • Yeah I've previously been an avid flasher, but this time around I decided to just keep and try the default Miui OS. Bit of a change not having an app draw, but now that I'm used to it and have folders that I keep organised, I actually find it really good.

Looking forward to them releasing Miui 8 Global ROM in August. (Marshmallow version)

        • Can you not download and use Nova Launcher from Google Play?

        • @Fexofenadine: I'm pretty sure you can, but I wanted to give the full stock a go. Haven't found the need to install a different launcher.

  • Not gonna lie. I'm a little jelly. I wish my version had band 28. Though it might be unlockable since I'm pretty sure the hardware is all the same. Just gota wait for someone to tinker with it.

On a side note…are you sure that store is legit? It doesn't have the best rating.

    • Hmm. I suppose I am relying on AliExpress's buyer protection policy (not releasing funds to seller until I say I am happy) here…

      • Let us know how you go. I have the Prime version (3GB/32GB) and must admit, I'd hate to not have that version.

  • I have this phone with MIUI7 that supports google store and english, spanish etc. If I upgrade to MIU V8.0.1 stable will it revert to chinese etc? Any opinions if I should update or leave it at 7?
