Edit: Price is back up again. Not at a terrible price, but certainly not the best. Comments say it got to $221 but it's too inconsistent with all the ups and downs so I'm gonna say EXPIRED

Looks like the cheapest price so far for Ozbargains favourite Chinese phone, and it's not the Gold version.

Personally, I'm still trying to find someone who sells the Taiwan edition with extra 4G bands and Marshmallow out of the box. Happy to wait a bit longer.

But for anyone interested in this excellent phone, this looks the cheapest option at the moment.

  • has this price been the cheapest so far?

  • Only 2gb/16gb and not MM but interesting to see an 'international' version with more 4G bands..

  • What's the general consensus on these phones? My s4 is on its last legs and I'm seriously thinking about getting one of these.

What's the difference between this and the prime? Also the link mentions the prime is this right?

    • Prime = 3GB RAM + 32GB Storage

    • +2

After coming from an s4 my gf said she would pay 500 bucks for this it's amazingly fast and great battery life around 9 hours screen on time. Best phone this amount of money can buy easily.

    • I've come from an LGG3 which I think is about the same as the S4 and aside from the camera being a bit crappy in low light I love it. Battery is great, storage is great, fingerprint is great, speed is great. I paid $300 and would pay it again in a heartbeat. The lack of the extra 4G bands hasn't affected me at all (although I'm in metro Melbourne).

  • Why does the price come up as $244.25 for me?

  • +1

Looks like stock of the silver has been snapped up quick. Big jump in price for the other two colours. You can still get the silver with a silicon case and film for US $165.99/AU $225.25

  • How can they make the price (including delivery) so cheap??

Here's the price if you buy in China. Use Google Currency if you not sure about the exchange rate.

  • Are these phones ready to use for the Aus market right off the bat? Or would I need to install other things?

Apologies for the questions this is all a first for me

    • Should be ready to go my missus one was.

  • There's a new model coming out, apparently be announced on the 27th.

    • Iirc rumors indicated the new model isn't as good as the current model.

      • +1

From the rumors I've seen, the redmi note 4 uses faster SoC, better cameras, oled display, 4gb of ram and comes with marshmallow. Seems like a nice upgrade to me. It would be odd for a newer model to be worse than an older model, either way the price of the older model will get better.

Apparently even the new budget redmi 3s has a better camera than the note 3.

So you would expect an upgrade in the camera department at the very least.

      • Yes, with MTK SoC.
I'd wait for the Pro version presumably with SD SoC

        • Could you point to the rumors you found that speculate the phone is going to be worse? I'm curious to know how this is determined?

  • has something changed? the website is quoting USD $179.99 for the gold color and grey being $181.99.
can someone tell me how is this deal different from Everbuying store, apart from being another seller, selling the overseas model cheaper.

    • Can you link the phone from everbuy? The ones I see are all 2gb/16gb, not the 3gb/32gb?

  • If you can get the one with band 28 support for Australia that's great, BUT is that the one on offer ?

    • -2

Is there any reason anyone would need band 28?

      • It's one of Telstra's 4g bands.

        • Optus and Telstra lower frequency band, it provides greater bandwidth and coverage. It also gives better signal strength indoors. If you live or travel to regional areas it can be the difference between having 4g or not. It also means you aren't stuck on the congested higher frequency bands that most other phone users are using.

  • So what's miui? Is it a skin of Android? Does this have lollipop / marshmallow?

    • MIUI is Xiaomi's android skin. Currently based on lollipop.

  • I paid $255 from GeekBuying, with 3 day TNT delivery, Out of HK warehouse instead of China, and full postage insurance.
Also, the Grey version which most people try to price gouge for.

    • Was that with the official global rom?

      • I don't care, I can update that myself instantly even with a locked bootloader, since its official.

I plan to CyanogenMod anyway as soon as I get my bootloader unlock.

  • Nfi why people don't like gold. Gold is the best color. Looks expensive

    • +4

Light gold is traditionally feminine, or 'tacky'.

"Gangsta" themes, across all races, are beginning to make it "baller" which means I want even less to do with it :P

      • While in China it symbolises wealth.

        • I can understand that with real gold, and normally its a deep gold in Oz (imo).
But 'plastic gold' is considered tacky here more often :P

  • Anyone have a link to an official international version (sealed box).

The same seller as above has one, but they say they have opened the box and installed the international firmware. I'd rather get a sealed version if possible?

    • Is there a reason why?
If you own a computer, you can just update the rom instantly, and officially.

      • Even with a custom installed rom? The sealed version is more expensive for some strange reason?

Happy to flash myself, just looking for the cheapest option.

        • What do you mean custom installed?
I thought you were wanting to flash the official 'Global' from Xaiomi

        • @MasterScythe:

The original linked phone comes with a vendor rom (MIUI 7, Custom ROM (Change from official rom,Add Multilang, delete chinese APPs,bulti-in Google Play Store),NOT support OTA update)

Just wondering if there's anything stopping me from buying the linked one, and then flashing the Official "global" rom. They charge an extra $20 for an unopened one for some reason?

        • +1

          @anzacpaul: Nope.
If the bootloader is locked, there's a 99% chance its going to "just work".

If you go to the effort of unlocking the bootloader first, you'll be guranteed a working flash (with the usual risks, of course)

      • +1

Can you put in the exact steps to do this?
Can all the RN3s that have been pre-loaded with vendor-tampered ROMs be flashed by simply downloading the official ROM from http://en.miui.com/download-301.html and using the "Updater" up to install the official ROM?

I thought that some of the vendor-tampered ROMs don't allow you to flash official ROMs using the Updater app.

  • This one has got a vendor rom, no OTA update, has google play store.
I bought one from same vendor, but with official chinese rom.
I got it officially unlocked(bootloader). Not rooted yet.
Later installed official international rom which receives OTA updates.
    Battery life if great
I have posted some data in forum

    • Same with me. Bought an MI5. Great process but vendor ROM resulted in dodgy advertisements popping up (and maybe other nefarious software installed, who knows).
Got mine unlocked and I installed official MIUI global ROM with not much fuss.

  • +1

It's now $221 for the Silver white standard

    • Thanks, just purchased.

  • What postage time frame can we reasonably expect?

    • +1

Quite a long time, I ordered 5+ weeks ago, still nothing, no tracking updates for 3 weeks

      • Bugger that then!

      • +1

        5+ weeks, from which vendor???
I would have just cancel my order if they have not shipped within 7 days.
So, they did not ship your order for 3 weeks.

        • That dreami one, they shipped it in one week. Auspost is just that bad, I'd pay for dhl

        • @Booksf:
I also bought 2 mi4c from Dreami too. Their shipping is very slow. It took them 8 days to ship it. It then got consolidated in Singapore. Once it left Singapore the tracking system becomes unreliable. Singapore post estimated it will get into Australia within 2 working days, but that is not a fact. It can take more than a week for Singapore post to ship them into Australia. Once Auspost got hold of it, the delivery is very fast. I believe the hold up is in Singapore where they consolidate to save shipping cost into Australia.

      • I ordered from this store, it only took a couple of weeks. I paid extra for DHL, but then they wanted extra because I live in regional area. So I just took the free shipping instead. They used Singapore post, once it hit Australia there was no more tracking info and took about a week.

    • +1

Mine took 16 days. That was a month or two ago

  • Whats the cashback offer - 7.5%????

    • Cashrewards for Aliexpress is 7.25% at the moment.

  • Is this really the cheapest. I paid $220 shipped for a black one from Geek buying recently. Granted I haven't actually received it yet :)

    • Was that for a 3gb/32gb version? Good deal if so.
