I ordered one, so hopefully its accepted! I don't think it has asus international warranty. Just the amazon 30 warranty.

    • what are you upgrading from? :)

      • +14

gtx 770, so I should see some decent gains, although I only play boring games like Hearts of Iron IV, so I don't really need it, I just want one. Its not logical.

        • +2

I have a 290x, I'm upgrading because I have a vague notion I can buy a VR headset later in the year. Nothing makes sense when it comes to GPU upgrades.

        • +4

I'm in the exact same position except I'm going to resist I think.
I should probably stop clicking on these deals, but i'm addicted to bargains.

        • +1

I am sorry what is logic?

        • +1

@Lief1250: ^__^ the waiting game is hard

        • @freefall101: I have R9 280. Still plays BF4/Bfront on hig. Will stick to it for a bit longer.

        • i upgraded from GTX 770 OC to Asus STRIX 1070
          the gain is………huge….
          so lucky i didn't upgrade 970….

        • @alucard147:
          great to hear, thanks

        • @jt0505:
Witch 3 2560X1440 hair works off
          almost everything ultra ….

my CPU is I5 3570K overclock to 4.2G
ram is only DDR3 overclock to 2000Mhz

stable 60-82FPS my monitor is native 90Hz fresh rate IPS

        • At 1080, the 1070 will give you a 40% higher fps, and at 2560x1440 the gain is about 50%. You also have an extra 4 GB VRam, though I am not sure if there are currently any games that consume that much. Skyrim would if you had added lots of 4K textures - with mainly 2K textures and some 1K normal maps, it used up about 3.5 GB of VRAM.

Not OP but I am coming from a 9600GT.

        Long time coming =)

        • +2

Aren't those like 12 years old?

        • @rorymeister:

8 years old to be exact

I have one too, 9600 GSO with an embarrassingly small Vram size of 384mb

        • @scrimshaw: We still got 2x760GT sli

        • @rorymeister:

Yeah, the result is I don't even support Dx11 haha

      • hell yeh, time to upgrade! did you just order one?

        • +1

Intel HD530 graphics :) … my HD7970 stopped working after 4 1/2 years.. im very tempted to grab one of these GTX 1070's but i know in 2-3 months this will be the normal price for them.

        • @vid_ghost:
very true, although I couldn't handle an intel hd530 lol

        • @jt0505: runs league of legends at 75FPS maxed out everything at 1080P .. so cant really get any better then that… :) monitor is only 60hz so yeah.. pointless for that game.. :) good old i3 6100T is a great CPU/GPU lol

        • +1

          @vid_ghost:
well I can understand if you getting 75FPS on max settings, Yeah sit tight and wait until its reasonable in AU.

        • +2

          @jt0505:

the gtx 1070 is a great card.. i hope it gets to the $379US price oneday :) maybe once AMD bring something out to compete prices will drop

        • @vid_ghost: WOW FANCY RICH MAN

I am upgrading from the Radeon HD 6950 to the GTX 1070 - and the funny thing is the Radeon is still going strong. I realised I needed an upgrade when all I could get was 15fps on medium settings on 1080 on Warhammer total war

        • +1

          @vid_ghost:

Is the wait really worth the $60 bucks? By then the next card is announced and you will wait for the next card haha.

each to their own and not a very ozbargain thing to do, but this is Gaming, so as above stated, no logic on it! Gaming = money saved from going out to be in touch with the real world…

        • @mikkim4eva:

well only playing league of legends at the moment.. so i guess there's no rush until i wanna get back into some Guildwars2 or homeworld shipbreakers

        • @mikkim4eva: new GTX1080 titan x card has been announced…due for Aug 2….expect US RRP at $1200…IMO not worth the estimated 30% performance increase on the 1080 FE card (how this was calculated in theory vs in practice…no idea)

        • @x853:

i didnt buy it.. i'm not rich.. it is very tempting though.. very

        • +1

          @mikkim4eva: Are you a gamer?

They're usually poor and have very little social contact which is what happens when you save money by by video cards apparently.

        • @Diji1:

          I am a gamer, well I considered myself a gamer…

I am not poor though thanks for your concern, social contact everyday at work more than enough and have a few close friends, go outing with wifey and social club rides on my motorcycle :)

It's all about personalities, some like to have a few hundred friends, I personally don't.

by saving money, I meant not splashing out on a friday/Weekend on a pub/club drinking away your money.

Way to stereotype gamers as poor and have little social contact lol

    • I thought amazon honored the warranty for the first year?

      • Where did you hear that? I read Amazon only provide 7 day return if the item is faulty. It's not Amazon's responsibility to offer manufacturer's warranty.

  • +5

$62 more then the most expensive GTX 1060 in Aussie stores :) .. pretty good deal

Comes to a total of $589.11 Delivered for me using amazons conversion

    • +2

Yeah I heard the Amazon conversion system adds a fee, so its cheaper to let your bank do the conversion on your credit card.(from what I read in previous OZbarginers)

    • MSI GTX 1060 gaming x was available for $423 in the most recent ebay deal. This seems to be a way better deal than current available prices though.

  • Worth upgrading from a 7970? Only game at 1080p.

    • +1

not really worth it unless you have frame rate issues.. i used my HD7970 until it died and it only cost me $440AU when it first came out.

    • +4

when you have a game that the 7970 doesn't run.. thats when you either buy a new graphics card or play something else.. pretty simple really

    • +1

You already know whether you need an upgrade or not, but I can tell that you want it regardless. So I'm just going to enable you and say it's worth upgrading :P

      • haha…yeah nah I'll give it a miss thanks! Only ever paid $350 max for a vid card, not going to break the trend now!

        • $799 for a Nvidia Geforce FX 5900 :( .. what a pile of poo that card was.. would of been so much better buying an ATI 9700 Pro

        • @vid_ghost:

          Wow, those were the days.

        • @anthonettex:

Yes indeed.. my first videocard was a 612kb VGA built in card on a 133Mhz Pentium with MMX.. Then i upgraded to a 4mb S3 Tro.. :) it run Warcraft 1 really well. added a voodoo2 SLI'ed to the 4Mb S3 Tro and boy was my 3D rocking in Quake lol

        • @vid_ghost: voodoo 2s weren't sli unless you had two. You are thinking of a Vga pass-through cable

        • @mousie: yeah.. it was outside the case and it was something along those lines i just called it SLI because its an easy way to say the cards were connected to each other.. one did 2D and the other 3D.. things were pretty complex back then.. nothing just worked.. so much tinkering around :)

    • 7970 is a great card! I wouldn't bother upgrading to a 1070 as you won't see significant gains. You are probably still running everything on max settings with the 7970 anyhow.

      • Won't see significant gains? The 7970 averages about half the performance a 1070 does.

        • that must be a huge A fan boy….

        • My point was that a 7970 can run most games at full 1080p res and still get great fps. Unless you are going to 4k, you won't see significant gains on a 1080p platform.

      • I concur you are looking at double the performance. That's a decent reason to upgrade if ever there was one, just as long as you have the cash ready and feel the urge.

  • +6

I would not buy. Wait and try to get a better custom cooler. I have bought a gigabyte g1 for 429 + SHIPPING, 20 bucks more expensive.

    • +3

Gotta agree there, worth paying a little extra for better cooler, unless you need the blower style.

    • +2

Its actually more than 20 bucks.
its $20 USD more expensive + more cost with postage
      $446.35 USD inc postage,594.683 AU

      $594 - $562 = $32 AU more expensive. ( both using XE Conversion)

But hey yeah, I agree, the Gigabyte is a better cooler. But I guess its upto the individual to draw a line and say when is it too much to pay for gtx 1070.
i'm content with just scraping into the gtx 1070, this card looks boring, but its going to be enclosed into the system and i'm just going to run at stock clocks and buy thirty-two $1 IPhone Covers from ebay.

  • Currently has two HD6950 in Crossfire. How much gain should I be expecting going for the 1070 (or even 1060)?

    • If your crossfire has good performace so the gain is around 100% at minimum. If it has not a good performace so the diference is brutal! It happens because your card at crossfire with a good performace stay at the same level of 960 gtx and this card is 100% stronger than this one.

      • If your crossfire has good performace so the gain is around 100% at minimum

        Wut?

    • +1

      I run 5760x1080 @ sli 660ti,
      Got 1070from evga.
Day and night differnce. due to the memory size (2gb to 8gb)

Long story short all depends on ur application

    • I still run HD6970's in crossfire. Probably make it back in a few years from the power bill :)

  • +1

Oooo After market blower style should be very nice for the Mini ITX build .. Thank you :D

  • is it worth upgrading from GTX960 if my monitor is only 1080p?

    • no….
I don't think the jump in performance is worth the $ gap between your card and the 1070

      • Thanks a lot. So the new generation is only worth the money if you game >1080p and >60fps right?

        • if you going to 1080P and 144FPS gaming…yes you surely need to upgrade to at least 1070…since AMD RX480 are just…perform really really bad at this moment.
lots of test also shows if you really want achieve that 144Hz fresh rate you need…a really good CPU as well…even at 1080P…

but 1070 as my personal experiences ( Asus Strix 1070 + I5 3570K overclock to 4.2Ghz +DDR3 overclock to 2000Mhz) you can crash almost anygame in 1440P~~60Hz
which makes this card great…only one game ultra will drop the FPS to around 50FPS sometimes ………..Witch 3….but with hairworks off and tree leaves set to high not ultra…. back to stable 60FPS to 82FPS….(my monitor is 1440P@90hz)

if you stick with 1080P and not aiming to get ultra or 144FPS… do not upgrade…960 is enough for another 1 year…at that time the 1070/1080 will drop price and maybe new AMD cards will be released.

        • @alucard147: Thanks a lot for your advice. Probably I will stick with GTX960 for another year for now.

    • +2

If you are looking for 60-144fps gaming experience then yes worth the upgrade, but again depends on the games you play.

      • Thanks for your advice. My monitor is also 60hz max so I dont think I can get better than 60fps

        • You can. Just turn off v-sync.

        • +1

          @Deviner:
turn off V sync will not get you better FPS
the real FPS only depends on the monitor's panel…
even you get 4000FPS in CS… if your monitor is 60Hz…it's 60Hz..

        • +2

@alucard147: Deviner is right. You will get a higher frame rate but your monitor just won't be able to take advantage of it. It's still worth getting a high frame rate as many games do calculations per frame. The display might not look any smoother but a frame rate higher than your refresh rate can still affect you in other ways like input lag. In GTA Online, the top speed of a car will be higher for players with high frames compared to those with weaker systems or those on consoles.

        • @alucard147: I was replying to a guy stating that, improving his graphics card won't make his FPS any better because "my monitor is also 60hz max so I dont think I can get better than 60fps".

That screams of someone using a 60hz monitor with v-sync forced on… which is what I'm talking about - I'm not referring to monitor panels.

If he were to have v-sync on, then yes, he would be locked at 60fps no matter how good his PC was.
If he were to have v-sync off, then no, 60fps limit would be uncapped and he could potentially get higher than 60fps in whatever game.

You are going off on a completely different tangent altogether about monitor panels.

And using your own reference, go play CS with 60fps/60hz and then go and play CS with 100fps/60hz… there's a difference.

But obviously, you'd want to be playing any game with v-sync on and as high fps and refresh rate as possible for the best experience.

    • +1

I would sell the 960and get rx 480 or even 1060 if you "want to step up" and "got the money". Really not worth it if it is going to affect your next lunch.

  • +1

So close to pulling the trigger on this one but I am gonna hold out a bit more and see what the aftermarket RX480s are like. I really hope my patience is going to pay off… AMD is really really testing my patience here.

    • +1

well i just purchased this ETA August 12 :)
shit! i paid 583 because i stupidly told amazon to do the conversion, oh well still a good deal none the less. :)

      thanks OP.

    • +1

      same boat :)

    • after market RX480 nitro is released……
      well…6-8% gain…more TDP more money (50 us+)
not worth it.. unless AMD really make Vulkan API to all games….

  • That's the one I've been eyeing up. But what of wty? Everyone says the EVGA are world wide. Not that I've ever had a vid card fail (jinx).

    • +1

1070 runs cool, doesnt use much power.. should last without warranty issues unless its a dud out of the box but then amazon has you covered with that :)

  • Could anyone educate me please? Why didn't Amazon ask for the 3 digit security code when i checked out?? Is it always been like this or it'll ask later?? Weird…

    • most Aussie retailers require it.. Amazon is a big company and is trusted by most banks worldwide so its not needed. thats my guess

      • Ok…i just noticed the first comment said "I ordered one, so hopefully its accepted!" So my guess is because we are overseas buyers so we will need to wait for confirmation of order acceptance?

        • I hadn't purchased from Amazon before. They have now taken my money, so its all good

        • No….
after your order..you will have an invoice send to your E-mail or you can look it up in your Amazon account.
if you get the Invoice…you purchased…don't worry about accept….
once they got stock.. they will use first in first out method to ship our popular items…

so just wait till section 2.
your item is arrived at amazon…
they organize item to different buyers
          NICE HERE IS YOUR TURN
Then you wait.they start charge you….
since they are OP. BIG. HUGE…company with great funds…they tell bank…
give the damn money to me, from his account XXXXX….now…or i shot you…
bank GG, hand the money to Amazon (normally just 1 or 2 days, bank really don't check…they weak like pests… )

          Section 3
money is here…they pack your item…drop to the postman..send you an email to let you know, hey mate i got your money from your bank already, just wait for your shipment….it will be quick…hopefully.

          game over!

my GTX1070 take 9 days from us to my door…which i think quite fast..i use the standard shipping…..they quote me for 19 days…. but only took 9days i feel great…
they first use UPS…arrived Australia then they use local delivery.. for my case i'm in QLD, 4510…they used Fast WAY.

  • This is a good price if you cant wait for the $350 RX480 deal

  • The GPU posted or this? [MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8GB] (http://www.skycomp.com.au/msi-gtx-1070-gaming-x-8g-geforce-g…) $751 + $13 =$764

    Also the
ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 8GB ROG STRIX Graphic Card model is available to order - US$429
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01HEQYQHA/ref=ox_sc_act_t…

    • Would this be better/similar in performance compared to the MSI? (AUD $572 @ 0.75US dollar)
can an ASRock Fatal1ty H170 Performance Mobo handle this GPU?

      • i got my ASUS STIX 1070 already
if you say compare to the founder's edition..yes
been tested almost every non-founder's 1070 cards whatever which manufacture beat founder's edition….
the problem of founder's edition is the voltage set a bit low and that cooling system make the temperature wall to stop GPU boost to a higher level and also the noise level is higher's then traditional fan cooling system…

but if you looking at ASUS strix or other Non-founders edition cards. they are more likely to be same performance ….
unless there are super overclocked editon such as HOF or FTW or GAMING X edition… consider these are Tier 1 and Strix.. SC…OC..or other normal over clocked edition cards as Tier 2… and founder's as Tier 3 and Nvdia non founder as Tier 4….

  • +1

Tempting.. but i'll wait for 1080ti and titan to come out and drop the 1080 down to this price!

    • +1

Those cards will be released at different price points, NVIDIA won't eat away at their own market unless AMD forces their hand

  • dumb quesion; but amazon havent charged my card yet? why would that be lol? (never purchased from amazon.com before)

    • I made the purchase last night and they hadn't taken the money until this morning.

      • Are you sure you won't get a foreign transaction fee? On my debit card if I buy something with a foreign currency I usually get a good exchange rate straight away, but a day or two later I get charged a foreign transaction fee and it actually makes it more expensive than Amazon's exchange rate.

        • if you use a foreign exchange fee free card then you won't be charged the transaction fee, such as 28 degrees card

    • +1

they only charge you just before shipping out the item
you can consider as if they can not ship out the item for whatever the reason is..
      they won't charge you.
once your oder is ready to ship. they will charge you for 100%…..don't worry…

    • have you got charged yet? I haven't.

      I bought around 8am tomorrow morining…

  • Coming from a GTX770 … going to take an hour or two away from OzBargain and come back and make a decision… :)
