Stella Artois Lager 330ml Bottles $38 Per Case @ Dan Murphy's

100

Not the light beer, enjoy

Liquor Style: Pilsner

Varietal: International Beer

The unique Stella Artois yeast strain (the very same yeast strain first used by the Artois brewmasters) adds a light to moderate fruity, cooked pineapple aroma and creates a clean, crisp medium bodied flavour with hints of cooked vegetable. The Saaz hop also produces a unique bitterness which is well balanced with the malted barley, giving Stella Artois a subtle but pleasant grainy, sweet finish.Bottle and case images are indicative only

    Varietal: International Beer

These are probably the ones made locally…

Yeah I hate it when I see "international" beers selling at "import" prices, then you look at the bottle and it says it was brewed/bottled in Sydney. The exception was the Australian version of Lucky Beer (Buddha Beer). That was glorious compared to the Chinese brewed version we get now.

This is still a good price though. I haven't had a Stella in years but I don't think they were terrible..

VB is more expensive than this…

      • +1

does VB still do 375ml stubbies because these bottles are 330 ml

        • +4

          VB's 375mL are $4.88/L while these are $4.80/L.

        • @f4te:

Great maths ( have not double checked if correct though, looks about right haha ).

  • Good price, although I got a slab a few weeks back and it didn't taste good. Has no flavour, its gone down hill I think.

Not the beer it was, sadly. Owners AB InBev have repeatedly ripped the guts out of this once great beer. Used to be 5.2% alc, now 4.8% for the UK brewed variant. And they now add maize into the mashbill, used to be all barley. Classic signs of cost-cutting.

    • While I am sure some of this was cost cutting the original driver was the remove the hooligan and wife beater tag that went with Stella. When they first did this back in the 2007 time frame I instantly stopped drinking it.

    on my email it says

    Stella Artois Lager# 330mL bottles — $38 per case (24)^.

    Brewed under licence.

It's that or brewed in the UK - I was in Dan's recently and the 500ml tins, 660ml tallies & 330ml bottles were all ex-UK. No thanks.

Goes well with a muscle shirt.

    • Great pun there ( if intended ). They love having beer with chips, mayo and mussels in Belgium.

  • I was born and spent first 11 of my childhood years watching dad and others drink great Belgium beers ( unfortunately I was too young and not allowed to drink yet ), and Stella was usually not what he choose. Stella is more suited to hotter climates such as ours here in Australia, I don't mind the draught on tap and used to like the Belgian import version ( ten years ago though, might have changed now ).

I used to remember dad saying in the 70's that Stella Artois was the first Belgian Beer to use Chemicals and many early drinkers of that brew experienced worse headaches and hangovers. Maybe because it's a easy drinking style, and some people just drank more, haha.

You can't beat a nice True "Trappist" double or triple Brewed Beer from Belgium ranging from around 5%ABV to 12% ABV.
Some of the lesser controlled "Abbey" Brewed Beers ( some Certified, others in name only ) can be good too, although usually cheaper can be more hit and miss.

There are so many different types and styles that you have to work your way through the available range here in Australia to find out which one, or dozen(s) you like. Some even use wild yeast fermented or fruit such as cherries ( Kriek ),and even honey.

Without getting snobbish about beer/wine and food, I say if you like it, Enjoy whatever you choose and have.

As they say, "A bird in the hand is better than two in the bush."

Recently had Stella at Aldi for $12 a six pack. Some stores may still have some. Hardly a 'bargain' price but it is imported from Belgium.

    • +1

Still pretty good price considering you can easily pay from $15 to $18+ for local beers, and more for premium boutique beers.

Couldn't decide which one to get - Stella or Becks?

The Belgium import Stella has paper seal on the top. This one doesn't have.

Not a big beer drinker so rather get the everyday price $11-12 for 6 pack German import lager.
