Save $1400 as JB's webpage showing.

    • i have the 2015 4k model with 3D and webOS 2.0 that i upgraded to 3.0 (cost me $2260).. great 4k TV and the best interface of any TV i've ever seen or used. WebOS works so well on TV's

  • +4

Im sure its a good deal, but i'd still struggle to pay $2800 for something LG made

    • +10

      Lucky goldstar!

      • Not to mention the webOS interface bought over from the Palm Pre, making it a much better TV to live with.

My only gripes with this unit are:
        - IPS-LCD/LED is good but not great
        - No Quantum Dot technology
        - Nor is it OLED

        It's a great unit.
It just lacks the "next-gen" tech inside. Making 4K feel a bit half-baked.
(Almost like buying the next phone, a la Samsung Note 7, and it has a Snapdragon 650 instead of a Snapdragon 821)

    • What brand would you prefer instead?

        Unlucky Bronzestar

These LG TV were the most impressive to me when I had a look in JB a few weeks ago. They looked the highest quality with best picture quality. Hopefully they have improved their reputation over the years. Still a bit too pricey though IMO. Waiting for a good 65" 4K under 2000.

      • also waiting for that under $2000 sweetspot………

I'm not sure why you feel this way. LG is commonly ranked as the best TV maker on the market right now. Just to name a few:

I think a lot of people still have the 90's mentality when Japanese products reigned supreme. That's just not the case anymore. The Koreans are the ones innovating.

          @Ryanek:

Yep - Hyundai make very good cars now…

        • +1

          @Ryanek:
But Sony's x9300d, x8500d and some of the high end panasonics are far better than the LGs that are priced in the same range in terms of picture quality…and they are both japanese brands and made in japan

        • @going nowhere: Personally, I don't judge an entire brand based on one or two products. As a whole, you're going to have a better experience with LG.

        • -2

          @GreatWhiteHunter:

they might be good cars but i still feel they need much to improve on, for instance i drove an i20 for about 2 weeks, drove very good, steering and suspension off the car give it very good stability around corners without compromising a smooth ride, altho there are problems with stereo playing up, suspension made noises when turning corners and interior plastics make rattle noises. This coming from a car that's only traveled 30k km's

i wonder how it will drive after 100k, i'm pretty sure the end result will be driving a car that is unpleasant to drive, just mo

        • @bti_jet:

Well what is your preferred drive?

Having owned a Ford and a Holden before my Hyundai, I would never touch either brand again…

        • @GreatWhiteHunter:

did i say holden or ford.

I rather either nissan, mazda or toyota.

          i prefer my car, BL SP25 :)

        • @bti_jet:

I didn't say you said a brand - I just asked which one you prefer and gave feedback on the last 2 cars I've owned before my current Hyundai.

I had a 10kg top loading LG washing machine a few years ago. Easily the best washing machine I have ever owned - only got rid of it because my laundry was too small for it.

@Ryanek: Thats not true. I value sony very highly, infact my monitor for my pc was my 1st lcd i ever bought in 2008 for $800 (32") and its still working today. I use the Z2 and imo is the best phone ive ever used(for its price of $400). Not to even begin talking about playstation…

        • @thedude23: I gave up on Sony the day of the rootkit scandal.

    • +1

I'm somewhat in the same boat. After buying an LG G3 and G4 (phones) and both dying and having nightmare experiences with two different online retailers, I'm pretty hesitant too. Yes they were grey imports, but if the phones didn't outright die and if they had a respectable approach to their manufacturing faults (other than throwing their hands in the air) I may feel differently about their goods.

Needless to say I absolutely loved both those phones, design, interface, 11/10 for me. But that is meaningless when they die and the manufacturer turns their back.

And the LG nexus devices are rubbish too (only saved by googles more responsible approach.

Yes I imagine most others aren't that different.

    • Yeah I also don't know why you've randomly implied LG is rubbish. I have a LG 4k tv and the quality has been great. WebOS is great for tv use. Every day after work i'm using netflix and youtube apps so easily. I find it easier than using chromecast from my phone…

  • Do these have OLED?

  • +1

LG OLED TVs have the best picture quality. However, this should be nearly good as OLED TVs.

From personal experience, I'd be happy to own either a Samsung or LG TV. I'd stay away from Sony, and Panasonic aren't what they used to be.

I also noted this TV as being one of the standouts from my trip to JB the other day. Still unsure as to whether or not I will be purchasing to replace my 55" FHD Samsung.

    • Can confirm Samsung make excellent TV's, at least in my experience. Have had my Samsung 7 series LED for a few years now and it's been an absolute joy, excellent quality product.

    • Whats wrong with sony?

    • I totally agree

I have an older 47" Sony XBR and in my view, all the newer models seem crap by comparison
I also own a Samsung Series 6 and don't think much of it
Friends have a Samsung Series 7 and i don't think much at all about that.
(loses scanned channels, needs rescanning weekly, bad motion flow issues and most of all is that Soapy Effect)

In the race to be the flattest, lightest, thinest and cheapest…. much quality went missing in my view.

I agree, that i have heard good things about LG's TV's in the last 2 years…. Far better than the LG Plasmas that were dieing every other week.
And a walk into The Good Guys or JB has impressed me.
So an LG is now on my list of potential new TVs…. But not at almost $3000.

To be honest, i hardly ever use a TV today as a stand alone device, or with its own tuners.
Its ALWAYS connected to a Sat Box, Receiver or Android Box, so all the built in OSD is lost for me.
Those features are handy on a smaller bedroom TV, but not for a Main Lounge TV that is always connected to an entertainment system.

  • Saw this in store, looked great! The OLED TVs looked better, but also had a bigger price tag.

  • +1

Waiting for OLED to get cheaper.

  • This looks nice, but not for me. Still using $50 32" TV bought from gumtree. Maybe one day I can afford this bad boy :)

    Hi all,

Through some work perks, I can buy JB Hi Fi gift cards for 7.5% off. Whilst I obviously wouldn't do this for many people (mostly because I'd exhaust my credit limit quickly), am happy to do it for a few people who may be looking at taking advantage of this deal.

        • +1

Great Place for deals is what we have and is 7.5% off JB, 5% coles woolies etc..

    • Very nice of you to offer. Not entirely sure on this yet. Might have a look at the TV tonight. How would the gift card transaction happen?

  • Picked one up, was in the market for a 65" TV, happy with the price and the reviews on this TV.

  • +1

    No 3D?

    • ew, no

    • I have 3D on my TV. Used it once and it felt like a novelty.

      • Me too, wasn't a fan of it.

    • It's frustrating for those of us that love 3D that people who don't like it feel like having the function on a TV taints their TV or something. Just because a TV has a feature doesn't mean you have to use it, and in the meantime those of us who like it can use it.

I use the 3D function on my TV for 3D gaming mostly, where it really shines. If anyone doubts 3D gaming, come round to my place and play Dead Space 2 or any of the Batman games.

      • +2

But if I don't want it or use it I don't want to pay for it either.

        • +1

          Fair point

      • I am allowed to smoke pot inside?

      • PIZZA NIGHT!

  • Local dimming on edge lit TV, typical marketing crap talk.

  • I've got the 100Hz version of this (It appears identical in every other way).

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

(I didnt pay that of course, got it from Harvey for $2499). Great TV, highly recommend it.

Edit: oh wait mine doesnt have the Harman/Kardon sound. Yeah this is a very good deal then.

  • I am so tempted………..

  • Looks like a good deal but it's an IPS panel. IPS has superior viewing angles but inferior blacks to VA panels. Personal choice.

    • Do you know if Sony uses IPS or VA in their Ultra TVs?

      • Sony uses VA, I have one but can't speak for all models. Best check before you buy. Once you see the difference you'll notice from then on. IPS is bad if you like to watch movies in a darkened room. Contrast ratio is poor (ie blacks).

        • I have LG as well and Sony's quality is not bad. Has perfect view angles as well. LG IPS panel has bad blacks.

  • +1

I am tempted too. Went down to my local JB. Tv looks great and has 50 months interest free. It's good price but I am looking for a 65" close to $2000. Decided to wait till I finish work.

  • +1

If only their phones had the same quality as these TV's (LG G4)

    • My lg g4 is awesome but went through two of them already. All of a sudden dead.

      • My G4 WAS awesome too…

  • At Bing Lee you get a gift card worth 10% of purchase with any 4K UHD TV until July 31st. Maybe you could get a price match which would sweeten the deal.

    • +1

I called my local Bing lee, they refused to price match.

      • Bummer. It is easy for them to say no over the phone though. I think the odds are higher once you get them talking in store and pull out the proof on your phone.

    • Yesterday The Good Guys were advertising this TV for $3695. I think Good Guys offer a price beat guarantee and also a 120% price difference promise. Today the link is dead.

      https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:0rsRPh…

It's model number is also listed in their current $300 cashback promotion through a prepaid eftpos card - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/cons/groups/public/documents/…

Someone interested in the TV might want to have a go taking this evidence down to their local Good Guys this afternoon and trying to get a bargain.

      • I think I accessed it earlier today on Good Guys or Bing Lee website (can't remember). They must have taken it down to try and stop people matching. I agree, I don't see how they can't match it and im tempted to go to the shops tonight and try my luck if I can match and take advantage of the promotions they have running.

        • Yes not really sure how they can get out of it. You'd probably end up having to speak to the manager and jump through hoops but I think you have a good chance to get it.

They are obviously trying to hide the fact they even sell this TV today. Unfortunately for them its model number is printed in black and white in the $300 cash back terms and conditions and the TV clearly visible on Google's cache from yesterday afternoon.

Edit: Link to Good Guys price beat promise https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/pay-less

        • Yep there is no way they can get out of it with those T&C's. Might give it a go. Interested to hear any others experience if they have done so as well. It would be a great bargain if we can get a price beat and the $300 eftpos.

        • Pulled the pin and bought the same set from Good Guys last night. They could only beat it by a dollar. Definitely stock issues. Chose to wait for additional stock from LG - so can expect it to be ready for pickup in a weeks time. (Prefer shopping there because they are close to where I live - plus the store manager is a legend).

      • Terms and conditions for the $300 offer bonus state "must purchase at full retail price"

        Just noticed :(

Also, good guys have pulled this TV from display. Nowhere to be seen. Best price is with JB it seems..

  • +1

    http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uh7700

It's fairly comparable to the Sony X8500C from last year. It all comes down to your personal preference on the panel and OS:

    • Sony 65X8500C - VA Panel (higher contrast but limited viewing angle) / Runs Android TV (huge range of Apps)
    • LG 65UH770T - IPS Panel (better viewing angle but low contrast) / Runs Web OS 3.0 (limited apps but great interface)

One downside of the LG is that despite using a 200HZ panel it has minor shuddering issues with 24p videos (most movies & TV shows) over 60p input (most PCs and TV boxes).

  • +1

I picked up the 55" version about a week or so back from Video Pro (currently $2047 on sale) and it has a lot of great features like HDR 10 and Dolby Vision (with an update), 200hz panel, Webos 3.0 etc.

The only issue I've had is very bad vertical banding and the Dirty Screen Effect. It's very noticeable when the camera pans across solid colours. I've noticed it a lot with Footy and Soccer. I also put on Red Dead the other day and as you look left and right, the sky has these dark strips that go down and don't move. I'm hoping it is only a bad panel as each panel uniformity is different.

Video Pro have organised a new one and will let me test it in store which is great. SO if you end up picking this TV up, make sure you check for these vertical banding and DSE issues, as i am guessing they would stand out more on a 65".

  • Want one but I am waiting for my current TV to die first. Its an LG FHD and here's to hoping that it fails like my wife's G4 twice (boot loop)

  • +2

Couldn't help myself. Bought one today. Been looking to get a new TV for a while. Wanted the next LG model up but this price was too good to say no. Doubt I will need Dolby vision anyway as HDR10 seems to be winning that format war. And I definitely don't need 3D anymore. Colour prime would have been good though.

    • +1

Me too. $2855 including delivery. Its a good deal, don't think it will be this price again for a while. Sneaky Good Guys hid all their stock to prevent price beat, so went to JB in the end.

  • +2

    I want a 75" version of this for $3k

  • -4

LG UHD TV's are fake 4k, I think only their super UHD range is real 4k.
    http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/rgbw-201510084189.htm

  • Just waiting for mine to arrive with Toll today.
    I see JB have this TV at $4196 (+ $1400) today…
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/hd-televisio…

  • Thanks OP, I bought one last night. Couldn't resist. I was a bit hesitant until she put the 4K content on and after a minute of that I was happy to go ahead with it. Delivery tomorrow sometime.

    • I'm regretting not getting one now :/ especially with the 50 months interest free that was being offered…oh well next time maybe

      • 50 months interest free required HSBC card with $59 annual fee though.

What really pushed me to get it was the possibility of $300 GG eftpos card, but the fine print says must purchase at full price, they didn't have the TV on display anyway. In the end just went with JB, its a very good deal but surprisingly this was the first purchase of the day for that store. Also had to pay extra $59 (tried to charge $65 but website said $59) and wait for delivery as apparently no stock held.

        • Have you tested it yet?
