Charging Standard Price for fast food after removing standard Inclusions

Say I go to Mcdonalds or Hungry Jacks and ask for Sausage and Egg Muffin with two patties of Sausage. They would charge me for the extra patty. However if I ask them for Egg Muffin, I would still be charged for Sausage and Egg Muffin.

Is it a standard practice in fast food business?

  • yes , since the muffin is a special if you bought the plain muffing + the cheese + the sausage + the egg it would cost more than the special, adding more to it is simple , but subtracting a part is hard , since each part does not have a set value but a combined value.

  • I'm guessing it will vary depending on the margins on the item. If I recall correctly, you can get a hamburger/cheeseburger from Maccas and they will reduce the price (90c a few years back).

    • if you order from self service you can see the price of the items you have removed removed from the total.
I usually do this from a large coke to a small coke and save 90c (?)

however i'm not sure how individual items are priced in comparison to the 'value' in a meal.
