It is most certainly NOT a "fruit" beer. It's a wheat beer, and the coriander is what turns a lot of people off.

Personally I think it's delicious, but definitely divisive. Belgian beers = best beers!

      • +4

…im with you. great beer and you never see it this cheap so corker deal

        • +9

Well Hoegaarden have been brewing since 1445 so I think they have more than earned the right to call this "beer".

Anyway, there is quite a distinction between something tasting fruity and actually being a fruit beer. I wasn't trying to discredit your input, just pointing out the facts about the beer (some people love wheat beers but not fruit beers)

        • @Poimandres: reviews all over the place refer to the fruitiness of Hoegaarden white, as many beer lovers know (excluding the neggers of course).

People can call anything brewed "beer" and we all have different tastes, just expressing my opinion. You might have noticed that I gave the deal a + because I know some people love this stuff.

        • Does Heineken have a good reputation? I thought it was kinda like the McDonalds of beer. Popular because it's cheap and convenient, but anyone who has tried a few good beers will barely call Heineken his favourite.
And well, they spend a lot on marketing, probably more than any other beer in the world.

Still surprised you hate Hoegaarden so much. Do you generally dislike wheat beers?
It's far from being my favourite, but not a bad one either, I find.

        • @Possumbly: I'm just pointing out the distinction between a fruit beer and a beer that could be described as fruity. I agree that Hoegaarden has quite a fruity taste, but it's a very different kettle of fish to an actual fruit beer.

I didn't neg your comment or anything, just clarifying what the beer actually is.

As for what does/doesn't constitute a beer… no need to get into that discussion here!

        • -1

@MrTweek: haven't tried any other wheat beers due to my experience with Hoegaarden. Fortunately I bought just one large bottle to try - always a good idea for "different" beer.

Perhaps reputation was the wrong word wrt Heineken - popularity is more accurate. All over the place in Europe and UK with the same dull uninspiring taste. Even our cheap Hollandia is better imo.

      • correction, there is orange peel in there so I guess possumbly wasnt completely wrong…

        • It's still not a fruit beer…
The orange peel content would be measured in hundredths of a percent.

        • @scubacoles: I've already explained it but for your benefit read "fruity tasting beer" - as attested to by hundreds of reviewers on beer rating websites. I'm fully aware of its base - likely much more aware than you are.

        • @Possumbly: its a great tasting witbier and it definitely does not taste predominantly of fruit…has citrus tones etc but definitely not what id call 'fruity'

witbier: A Belgian Style ale that's very pale and cloudy in appearance due to it being unfiltered and the high level of wheat, and sometimes oats, that's used in the mash. Always spiced, generally with coriander, orange peel and other oddball spices or herbs in the back ground. The crispness and slight twang comes from the wheat and the lively level of carbonation

        • -1

@franco cozzo: Depends on what you call "predominantly" and what you're comparing it to I suppose. As I've said above, plenty - and I mean plenty - of reviews remark on the fruity taste. The kiddy-neggers should google beer ratings and expand their challenged minds. A huge variety of opinions and tastes, probably well beyond their comprehension.

  • Just grabbed a slab of my favourite warm weather beer. The best price I've seen. Online order and click and collect.

  • This is a pretty wheaty beer and if you haven't tried it before I'd suggest trying one before investing in a slab. Great price though for those that like it.

  • +2

Thanks. 1 of my favourite beers

  • Don't mind if i do!

  • +1

Thanks op. I suppose if I don't enjoy maybe use for batter and scones.

  • +5

My most favorite beer. Great price.

    • +4

      …philistine!

    • +2

Best stick to the adjunct lagers

      • +1

        This has an awful aftertaste…

        I prefer an IPA.

        • +1

Yeah just messing with you! Hoegaarden is definitely not to everyones taste.

    • +3

Don't know why this comment is getting down voted. It's jv's opinion, and it's valid.
Down vote if the information is wrong. Not because the opinion isn't the same as yours.

      • +1

A downvote is a lot easier to show an opposing opinion rather than having 12+ people individually comment and say they disagree with the opinion?

        • OzB neggers generally don't have the wit to respond.

      • -1

yeah but jv is a known troll, so im sure it wont hurt his feelings.

    • +1

      do you prefer VB?

      • +2

        No…

        I but I wouldn't mind a case of these for $40 !!!

The Hatlifter Stout that's on sale this week is pretty good too.. Will probably get a six pack for the weekend…

    • Agree. Best used for oral enemas imo.

  • +1

easy to drink. hard to get drunk

    • Who drinks to get drunk?!?!

  • +3

Nice find. Has that slight 'banana' flavour that you get in most wheat beers (but as was said above - it's NOT a fruit beer, the flavour actually comes from the strain of yeast used in conjunction with the wheat malt). I love it, some people hate it.

    • Can honestly say I have never tasted banana in any beer I've drunk. Not even the many wheat beers I've tried.

      • You're missing out! The banana flavour is most common in the "hefe" variety of wheat beers (e.g. hefeweissbeer, hefeweizen). Try this one: https://goo.gl/fMerXk it's available at Dans too and it's super banana-ry. Also the best wheat beer in existence imo. :P

        • Also the best wheat beer in existence imo.

I recommend you try some König Ludwig Weissbier, if you can find it.

  • +1

I love this beer and yes it is great price.

  • +1

One of my fave beers! Great price.

  • +5

Around $36.60 after discounted wish gift cards and cashrewards!

    • Yeah was going to suggest Cash Rewards which is 12%. Nice.

      • +6

I think 12% is only on wines.

        its only 3.5% for beers

        • +3

Ah oh well. Better than nothing. :)

  • The most delicious beer. Saving of about $9. Will get a few slabs.

  • Thanks, great deal!

  • +1

These are 330ml bottles, so this equates to $45.45 for a case of 375ml bottles.

    • +10

      or $400 for a case of 3.3L bottles - which you can't buy, like the 375ml bottles…

    • +1

You make a fair point but most foreign beers are 330ml which is probably a better comparison than Coopers.

      • +1

Coopers is still a bargain every day beer..
        Complex flavour at bland price!

  • +7

Anyone know if they are short dated like most Dan's sales are?

    • +1

I'll let you know when I pick up tonight. Probably varies between stores, but from past experience this is a beer that really does degrade in quality if left too long (or poorly stored) so definitely something to take into account.

    • Doubt it. It is one of their weekly sales rather than a clearance item which is what the short dated "sales" typically are.

    • For a long time Dan Murphys had this beer up around $58 a case. Wouldn't surprise me if they are short dated. They did drop the price to $49 about two months ago though, which is what I pay at an independent liquor store as their every day price.

    • Yes, short dated (26 August 2016).

  • -1

Seems to be $9.90 a 6 pack anyway?

  • Ah….damn….didnt see that. Thought it was 6 - might change my order then.

    • you better! case price is rarely this low ;)

  • +4

Just picked mine up, best before is 02/10/2016… Case won't last until week end anyway!

    • good to know thanks andy!

    • Picked up 2 cases from Seaford Dans, BB of 06/08/16 and 07/09/16 … But as you say, they won't last til the weeks out either!

  • Bought. Thanks OP.

  • +2

FYI, about $36.50 after 5.25% off eWish card from cashrewards and 3.5% cashback

  • Could not pass this up! Great price for a great brew! Cheers OP!

  • Damn! I have missed that frigging hoe!

  • +1

    Extended until 8pm AEST!

  • Grabbed 2 slabs.

Couldn't do the 2hr CC, but I can wait for a cheap hoe.

    • Had to do 7 day click and collect as well. Hopefully get a fresh case.

  • +2

    Bought 2 cases last week…
    just bought 5 more…

I've drunk nearly every beer from Dan's, regular at Warners at the Bay, and The Grain Store, tried hundreds of beers and this is my favourite.
Take from that what you will!

note: taking into account regular price, as a general quaffer etc, etc.

  • Expiry extended to midnight by Dans.

  • Now extended till midnight. Sounds like a good price but never tried it before!

  • I would purchase them if they are not short dated…and the fact that I still have a hoe bunch of asahi from the last deal…

  • Good timing.. My case of Sierra nevada has just finished..

  • +1

I just got 2 cases last night @ Dans $31 each clearance stock because of near use by date! Winning

  • Mmmm..I'd happily buy two cases at this price..But I sadly don't need anymore beer especially if it's close to expiration :(

  • I'd still buy it even if it was past best by date

  • +2

my Dans in Wynnum QLD had an expiry date of August 2016. plenty of time….

  • Probably my favorite beer, great deal, thanks!

  • Ordered 6 cases. Picked up 2 today & another order of 4 to be picked up in 2 weeks to keep the BB in check, these ones are 5/11.

  • I wish I liked Hoegaarden in any variety but I don't.

Any good deal on any dark beers going around?

    • +1

not cheap but very good….DM finally sells Stone (USA) beers….Stone Americano Espresso Stout, hope they soon sell Stone Ruination IPA

  • I did click & collect. Got an sms 10min later so went & picked them up.

First time ive tried this beer & must say its very nice! Can't explain it but its very unique.. The best before date on mine is 03/10/16 but thats not going to be a problem for me.

    • good to see youre enjoying it. probably goes without saying but this is a beer that benefits from being poured & served from a glass for optimum enjoyment… ;)

  • Just picked up my case few minutes before from Melbourne QV Dan’s and the best before date is 7th October 2016.

  • I have 1st Choice in walking distance who have price matched Dan Murphy's member offers before.

Mental note. Don't go on a Tuesday.

    Bought through DMs and C&C.

    Will pick up this weekend.

  • Nice post. Bought one Click and Collect.

  • Bought a case C&C before midnight and just checked back after midnight and it's still $40!

  • Purchased, thanks op.

  • Picked mine up today, best before septembish. Better get drinkin!

    • Don't worry, it will be ok for another year or more.
