Anyone Had Problems Getting a Refund from Optiontown?

Hi,

I recently did Perth - KL return with AirAsia. On the way over there I was lucky enough to get an empty seat next to me and it made the trip a lot more pleasant so I paid optiontown $31 for an empty seat on the way back. The request was approved a few hours before my flight but when I got to the airport they told me the flight is full so they couldn't do it. Optiontown makes it clear that I will get a refund if this happens but so far I haven't been refunded my money and optiontown is ignoring my emails.

Has anyone had this before? The last email I sent them I said if they don't get back to me soon I will be doing a credit card dispute. Do I have any other option here?

Thanks

  • I used them ages ago, got flat bed upgrade once and the other time I didn't get my upgrade and from memory got refunded. Well I hope I got refunded and not forgtotten, lol

  • I've been in a similar situation (Flat Bed upgrade conditionally approved subject to final loads when check-in closed). It shows up as 'approved' on the system. Unfortunately I didn't get the upgrade but the system didn't flag a refund. I had to send them a photo of my boarding pass to get the refund.

    • Ahh thanks. They just emailed me back asking for the boarding pass. This was a few weeks ago and it was tiny so I don't know if I still have it, I hope they refund me anyway.

    • Same, except I didn't find out the flat bed was double booked until I was on the plane!

      • That must have been awkward. Did you end up getting it?

        • Nope, we didn't even have a seat as the plane was taxiing down the runway for takeoff (which is not allowed). Ground crew knew about it, they simply apologised and said tell everyone about this (so it must happen regularly), then locked the doors!
Ended up in row 55! Pretty far from a flat bed. Emergency seats were available, but we couldn't use them as we 'hadn't booked them', and the flight attendant tapped me on the shoulder until I moved (over night flight)… Air Asia …AVOID!

and we had to continually follow up the refund etc as well. Dodgey, dodgey operators!

@tunzafun001: Scoot also wouldn't allow me to use an exit row after I had booked a Super seat (2 actually) and they had removed the class. I just paid for the upgrade on the plane then did a CC charge back as soon as I left the flight.

        • @SirFlibbled: Like it, but out hostess could barely speak an english. Basically spoke Mandarin (I'm guessing) kept poking me and pointing to row 55 (this was in Melbourne). But I will keep the chargeback in mind for the future.

Optiontown has given me the refund now. I called them up to say I was about to put the charge back in and that seemed to get there attention. It didn't seem to matter that I had lost the boarding pass but I will be sure to keep it next time.
