Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Announced, Release Date August 19th

Who else is hyped? Personally, I'm not too flattered with their free 256GB SD card, I'd rather the free Gear VR like they used to run. I hope they bring that back.

We also won't get the Coral Blue color, which looks great in the PR videos. Although I was tossing up between that and the Onyx Black, so not being able to choose makes my choice easy.

Looks like S7 Edge with S-Pen, 100mah less battery, 64GB storage, water resistant, Iris scanner, bigger screen, usb type-c, wireless charging, QC 3.0 (up from 2.0, will go great with the tronsmart power bank). Edges are a lot more toned down too.

Dual Lane UFS 2.0 was rumored but it doesn't look like it's happening, bummer, faster storage would really seperate this phone from the rest.

Lumia's got Iris scanners before they were cool

Yep, and it was a feature ignored by all 10 of Windows Phone users worldwide :)

I always feel that a phone that needs a stylus is a failure. I have a Surface 3 and I find the stylus useful sometimes, but in a phone? No.

Many people do sketches on their note phones on the train or when they are bored. I personally use the stylus during meetings because if I just type, people might think im messaging or playing games doing a meeting. If people see im using a stylus, they automatically assume im taking notes. I also use the stylus to edit pdfs when im out in a cafe or train and write in my comments for things like reports etc and send it back to the writer. It can be a useful tool if you are willing to let the stylus integrate in your life.

Without the stylus it would function like any other phone. Think of the stylus as an extra feature, not a necessity.

I've got an S5, have had it nearly 2 years. Honestly I see no reason to jump for the current flagship phones. Besides slightly faster processors, more ram, quick charging etc phones just haven't improved by the leaps and bounds they used to. With each 'unveiling' lately I'm very underwhelmed.

    Went from S1 > S3 > S5 (2yr contracts), and I think I'll keep the S5 for another year :)

I've been waiting for this note 7 since early this year. Howevevr the price seem bit too steep .. Seriously over $1,200? … I will get this still tho .. Now just waiting for ebay 20% or price drop

and become AUD1000? gee, still $400 too expensive. never buy something just released, but get the older generation one

    • Ebay 20%?

Could you please elaborate? Please and thank you :)

  • Used note 2 then now note 3 I think I'm stuck with note series, the best IMHO.

That is, if you know how to utilize the stylus and like big screen. I wish it gets 6 inches!

Maybe time to upgrade to note 4… Or 5…

    Where was galaxy note 6?

Samsung is skipping the number 6 to make the Note line have the same number as their S7 line.

I've been waiting a while for this. I originally wanted the Note 5 but when they didn't offer expandable storage I decided to wait. My Note 3 is very close to dying so probably time for an upgrade. I hope they've cut down the Samsung crapware in the last 3 years.

As for features? I'm keen on the waterproof-ness, the size and the stylus, not bothered about USB-C, iris scanner, fingerprint scanner, edges, wireless charging, probably a bunch of software included that Samsung markets as a feature but is useless undeletable bloat. I'm agnostic on the quickcharge as I haven't used it, I guess it's a nice feature?

Also not too keen on the price. My Note 3 was ~$800 just after release for a grey import. The $1349 is $100 more than the USD price after GST is added on top. I'll probs get another grey import but hopefully for under $1k.

    • You'll like the quick charge and fingerprint scanner.

  • I like it but not $1,349 like, may get it if it drop to below $700.

    • Good luck with that seeing as the note 5 is still often above $800 and over $900 at major retailers.

The thing with phones, as with PC parts, is there will always be something else coming out that will either be better or newer or have this extra feature.

  • I've bought mine via the cashrewards website and got about $53.96 cash back.

If you're heading overseas you can also claim back 10% GST

  • i like the phone i saw it on display, for a big phone it feels normal size…

im not sure if to wait for the 6gb version though,….

id also kinda like to see the new iphone 7 annoucned , and if its just a 6SE or not much of an improvement then id prob get this one, if the price was around like $850
