  • Hey still not loaded I dont think, i tried!

  • Still can't find any of the sale fares at 9am…

  • Search the flights you want. Select them at Full Price air fare, then Accept terms and click Continue.
The next screen will show the flights discounted at 1/2 price. I just booked return to Sydney for $42.

    • Weird - I can't find any flights from Melbourne to Tasmania that this will work for

  • fooly sik:
i tried doing that, found flights for 58 each way MEL>SYD for next sunday (ie within valid date range), but when i continue through, it still shows up as 116..
    It is not discounting ?… ! :-((

  • ok, now i get it.
NOT all flights will give you 50% off.
eg, i just did another search, and when i clicked [continue], the fare was 100% outbound, but it gave me 50% for the return flight !
    sweet.
I guess you gotta keep looking to find something that is worth it for you!

    "Sale Period: 25th March only"

    What the?

  • I can't find any sale flights. How do you recognise them? Flights for the weekend in August are only coming back 100%.

    • +2

look for the fare type next to the amount. should say "Discount Sale Fare" for the ones that will get discounted 50%. Lowest Fare seems to stay 100%

  • Great deal, Gold Coast return from Melbourne for $120!

  • Perfect timing! Just booked two people, Melboune - Gold Coast return with 15kg luggage for $174 total! $87 each! The extra for luggage hurts :(

  • the price that show is not discounted yet. you need to choose fare type Discount Sale Fare, on the final price will show discounted price 50% off.

    good bargain.

  • Wow they finally have web check-in when did that happen awsome. But no mention of Melb to Perth prices

  • Nice bargain. Thinking of heading up to Sydney. Can you do a lot in a day? Not sure if my parents will let me stay overnight. Haha.

  • awesome just got jetstar to price match gold coast to melb return for around $51 with 10kg carry on luggage

  • it's awesome! $104 for melb to sydney return for two people!!

    Hey All,

Adioso has loaded up all these fares so you can all find out which days have the cheap fares available. Remember that they display on the Tiger site as full price and it's only when you click through to book that it drops them to half-price (and Adioso is the same - ie: $13.50 Melbourne to Launceston fares come up as $27 until you click all the way through).

"Anywhere" searches are a good way to find out the good prices, ie:
    - http://adioso.com/au/adl-to-anywhere-tiger-airways.html
    - http://adioso.com/au/syd-to-anywhere-tiger-airways.html

    Happy hunting!

    Fenn.

  • Good deal - but I don't see why they decided to hide the sale fares, it was so much easier to find them before.

U idiot learn how to find flights before negging a deal cause of ur stupidity

  • Perth :(

I have flown with Tiger once from Melbourne to Sydney and I will try not to every fly with them again. There was three hours delay from Melbourne and 4 hours from Sydney, they made us stand in the line for 2.5 hours of the 3 hours in Melbourne. And flying from Sydney they didn't have enough passengers so they combined the three flights into on. Qantas at least provides some refreshment vouchers if your flight is delayed or canceled.

Every single Tiger deal gets a comment like this. We get it: some people find Tiger intolerable. Guess what: you don't have to fly with them, and more importantly You also don't need to subject everyone else to your moaning. People know by now that they have a choice. They can pay Tiger's dirt-cheap rates and take the risk that whilst it's normally ok, when it's bad it's pretty bad. That's life. People who want to be assured of a better experience choose a different airline and pay more accordingly. That's called competition, choice, freedom. Embrace it. And think of the millions of people in Australia, Europe and in developing countries like India, who for the first time in their lives, now find air travel affordable, thanks to airlines like Tiger and AirAsia.

Get some perspective. And watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk

      • +6

I simply shared my experience and I don't see why you are making it such a big deal. People have certain expectation when they pay for a service and when that expectation is not met it disappoints you. However if you are warned and you don't expect a level of service on par with the competition then the disappointment isn't that great.

        • -4

Most people here know what to expect of Tiger by now, and I'd be surprised if I'm the only one who finds it boring to hear the same old complaints on every Tiger thread. My point about perspective stands: there are pretty amazing things happening in the world and I'd rather celebrate them than merely grumble about the cases that fall short.

Do you always put as much effort into telling people when you have a good experience? If you do then great, keep it up.

          • +1

@AdiosoTom: What? People can't give others their opinions & warnings about Tiger?

When ppl have bad experience, yes they do like to give a details explanation. Who gaves you the right to be a nazi about it?

I heard that Tiger was a bad budget airline, but I never through they were that F#@ken bad until I experience them first hand.

I flew Melb to Bris with Tiger, got to the terminal over 2.5hrs ahead of time. Here is my experience:

            • No adequate signage above the front desk to tell you which flight it is, so you know where to lineup in. Plus no Tiger staff standing at the entrance to direct ppl where to go.
            • out of about 8 desks, only 6 being manned.
            • the queue to the front desk was huge, as in zigg zagged, then literally went out the door.
            • When you get to the desk, if they see you have ANY carry-on luggage, when will make you weigh it. I saw one guy that was just under 1kg over the limit, and they charged him checkin luggage… From memory it was way more then what Virgin & Jetstar charge for checkin luggage. Over flown all other airlines and I've never experienced this before.
            • Once you have checked in, you then lineup to go through security. That was another huge line that also went out the door… We then saw the reason why the security line was so huge. It was because the idiots only had ONE security scanner open!
            • It literally took us 2.5 hours from when we got out of the car and onto the plane.

AdiosoTom, would you like me to also take time & effort into telling people when I've had a good experience with other airlines? I will if you'd like? :P

I don't really care if Tiger is giving away free flights. I will never fly them again!

            • +2

@BlitzR: I've made two return flights with Tiger. I was quite satisfied with both.

              • I was only made to weigh my hand carry luggage on two out of four flights
              • Queues varied in size. The queue in Melbourne was long but went fairly quickly.
              • All the airline staff (check-in and on plane) were friendly
              • One flight was about 20 minutes late and the rest were on time

Overall was very happy, considering one of the return flights was $2 return all up!

Just a side note - some of these queueing problems should be solved with the ability to do an online check-in. To be honest I am actually looking forward to the next time I fly with them!

            • @BlitzR: Well at least @nadan's complaint involved actual flights being delayed.

            • +1

@BlitzR: Tiger are a ULTRA Low Cost Carrier. They have the lowest cost base of any airline in the world (in which they are the only airline to offer these deals). They cannot operate these deals if they let people off with excess baggage. They have budgets to meet in order to offer these sales in which is all reliant on little things like excess baggage.

            • +1

@BlitzR: if u take public transport on daily basis to your work, how many times that bus or train or ferry was delay / cancelled? if they delay or cancelled, would speak louder at the bus stop or ferry terminal or train station "DO NOT USE PUBLIC TRANSPORT ANYMORE, COZ THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE"
              would you?
this airline call budget airline. as they are running in limited budget, therefore they have to make money from somewhere.

car, ferry, train, bicycle all of them we call vehicle, but they are different type of vehicle.

        • let me ask you, if your regular train was cancelled this morning, do you think cityrail will refund your train ticket?

i guess with tiger ticket price same price for my train ticket fare from home to airport. i guess the rule would be the same.

          • +4

@dragonrabit: I still expect to see peoples opinions on various deals. I agree with nadan, I will never fly on Tiger again.. My last time flight from Syd-Melb was delayed for 2hrs, we were sent to another terminal for some reason (a Jetstar one) where there was no Tiger representative, Jetstar staff were saying 'I have no idea why you've been told to come here, I presume someone from TIger will be here soon'. Very poor cust service, sure I got a cheap deal, but I'd never heard of complaints about Tiger until AFTER that..

        • +3

Well, since we're sharing experiences, here's my Tiger experience.

I flew with Tiger to Melbourne the other week, and back to Sydney just this week.

The flight to Melbourne left on-time, and arrived on-time. I checked in after 5 mins wait in the queue. I picked up my luggage after 2 mins wait.

The flight to Sydney was delayed by 20 mins, due to foggy weather delaying the incoming plane to Melbourne. I checked in after 3 mins waiting in line, and picked up my luggage immediately, as it happened to be going around the carousel when I arrived there.

I made sure to check in 90 mins before departure in Sydney, and 65 mins before departure in Melbourne. I had a whole row of seats to myself, both ways on the flight. The planes were neat and clean, and looked fairly new. There were no video screens or audio sockets. I read a book during the flight.

So, my experience was positive. Tiger don't provide a luxurious flight, but I'm not into being pampered. I liked the "tin shed" luggage pickup at Melbourne. I think it'd look better with some wool bales and shearing equipment decorating the walls. Now that's an Australian welcome.

      • +2

Adioso Tom your comments would be very valid if Tiger advertised that this is the service that you should expect from them, but they do not. On face value if you go to the website to book a flight there is nothing to suggest that Tiger's service is crap, you book your flight and you would expect similar service to Virgin or Jetstar. Now if there was a BIG disclosure on a banner on their website to say that you can expect to MAYBE fly at your scheduled time then passengers would be informed and know what to expect. Yes Tiger are cheap and yes most frequent travellers know what to expect but just because you pay cheap does not mean that it is ok to expect to be delayed several hours. And thanks nadan it is reasonable to share your experiences so that people that have never flown Tiger know what to expect before making a choice.

        • They've voluntarily been the subject of two 8-episode prime-time TV series, consisting mostly of brutally unflattering portrayals of the experience they offer to travellers. They can hardly be accused of trying to conceal the truth of their service-levels. Every airline has delays and cancellations. Are they all meant to run big disclosures? At what point does an airline qualify for this requirement?

According to the Federal Government's On-Time Performance report for April 2010, Tiger's figures are:

          • 81.7% on-time arrival (compared to 86% for Jetstar, 86.9% for VirginBlue and 89.8% for Qantas)
          • 1.6% cancellations (vs 1.7% for VirginBlue, 0.6% for Qantas and 0.4% for Jetstar) - though to be fair the other airlines usually have more frequent flights that travellers can be transferred onto.

According to the Choice Domestic Airlines Survey 2010, their customer satisfaction rating was 55%. This seems very low, until you find that the other airlines aren't that much better: Jetstar 60%, Qantas 68%, VirginBlue 73%.

Sure, I get that not everyone watches TV or reads all the previous threads, or has friends to tell them of their horror stories, or understands the economics of price vs quality.

So, fine then, I guess it really is best if all the threads are full of the same complaints, just to make sure no-one's left in any doubt :)

  • Thanks mate. Just booked my ticket. Woo Hoo!

  • :( $6 fee EACH WAY if you dont have a debit mastercard

"Tiger Raw" fares must be purchased online using a MasterCard debit card issued by an Australian financial institution.

    • then u need price beat with jetstar so u don't need to pay this $6 fee

  • just got off the phone with Jetstar and have return ticket with 10% off for $37.5 MEL-SYD ($42 with Tiger). So people, please do call Jetstar and book with them and get price beat with 10% + NO CREDIT CARD FEE.

This also help other passengers since you didn't book tickets with Tiger, that ticket is still available for other passenger to price match with Jetstar. I'd like to book some ticket during Queen's birthday holiday but it's all sold out hence I can't get Jetstar to price match.

  • I also just got off the phone with jetstar, got the 10% off, but they charged me a $3 CC fee per person. I wasnt going to argue it.

I don't like jet stars rule that the flight has to be within 1 hour of the tiger flight. The flight i was looking at was 1hr and 10 miniutes and they wouldn't do it unfortunatly, so i just had to go 1 way with jet star and 1 way with tiger.

    Still good deal though.

    • you just got bad luck with some moronic operator. My flight was also within 1h15' and I was prepared to get the flight within 1h if the others was not accepted but the guys who talked with me was quite friendly and helpful and he didn't even question me about 1h15' earlier flight ;-)

So it's all about who you are talking to, some customer service operators are really sucked. BTW, you are not supposed to be charged $3 CC fee, you can call up and complain about that person who booked the ticket for you.

  • Fantastic deal…….got 10% off from Jetstar for Mel-Syd with no CC fees….hoorooo

  • +3

I agree, if you don't like them, don't fly with them. But at least appreciate the effect that they are having on competition in the Australian market.

To all the people matching with Jetstar (especially in non-sale circumstances) consider that getting a price beat is extremely anti-competitive and you are actually hurting Tiger Airways ability to continue to operate.

If Tiger collapses, prices on Jetstar, Virgin and even Qantas are sure to go up. Qantas is selling Sydney to Melbourne on sale now for $79 or $99 when not in sale. I can recall Sydney to Melbourne being about $110-115 one way on Virgin Blue before Tiger entered the market. And Qantas was even more than that.

    • I think it's fine if Jetstar's silly enough to be so price-obsessed as to offer fare-matching, that people take advantage of it. And it'd be a good thing if it put pressure on Tiger to lift their service levels to at least be on par with Jetstar.

But you're spot on with everything else. I'm just old enough to remember the pre-VirginBlue days of the Qantas and Ansett duopoly, when most domestic flights were hundreds of dollars and ordinary people could barely ever afford to fly at all.

I find it pretty exciting to see travel made accessible to so many more people around the world, and I dearly hope to see it continue.

      • +1

        i agree with u mate.
some rich guys, they prefer driving bmw / mercedes or other expensive car.
i guess these types of people won't fly with tiger or jetstar. they prefer full service airlines.
now if u are budget flyer. and still expecting the same level as full service airline provided. you should go to full service airline. do not fly with tiger or other low cost airlines. coz they are offering different products.

many of these people fail to recognize these two different products.

in their mind, they wanna ride expensive car, but they wanna paying korean car price. seriously, these people need wake up from their sleep.

  • +3

At the end of the day, if your flight is changed you are given some VERY good options. I have just got changed flights from Jetstar and are given the next flight or nothing, no refunds or any other treatment unless they changed it beyond 3hrs in which you get a refunf. Look what Tiger did for me, my $2 flights have basically turned into some sort of Flexi fare. These options are for EVERYONE who is victim of a Tiger flight change, whether it be 10mins or 10hrs.

If the flight times are not suitable, the following options are available to you:

1 - If you would like to travel at another time (within 7 days either side of the flight dates above), please contact our call centre staff (contact numbers below). They will be able to rebook you, free of charge, on your chosen new flight. (In which I changed to a peak Sunday evening flight from a Tuesday)

2 - If you would like to travel outside of 7 days of the flight dates above or if you would like to change your destination, please contact our call centre staff (contact numbers below). They will be able to re-book you to your chosen new flight(s), but please note that any difference in fare will apply.

3 - If the new times above are not suitable and you are not sure when you would like to travel, then our call centre staff (contact numbers below) can arrange for a flight credit to be issued to the value of the unused portion of your fare. You then have six months to spend the credit on another Tiger Airways flight.

4 - If we can't find a suitable alternative travel option for you, we will be happy to refund the unused portion of your fare. Our call centre staff are available at the contact numbers below.

And they even threw in a 10% off offer! http://www.tigerairways.com/promo/schchge/A176

    Bloody amazing!

    • How is the 10% deal works? How come I didn't get the 10% off for my MEL-Cairns booking?
