Wi-Fi Modem TPG ADSL2+

Hey guys

Just signed up TPG unlimited broadband. I've been out of the modem/router game for too long. Didn't buy from TPG while I was on the phone with the rep so I was wondering what's a good wifi modem to get?

I moved to a new apartment in Zetland , no crazy thick walls.

Budget $50-150?

Thanks in advance for suggestions!

With your budget D7 tplink will be a good option. Look for 20% off tech deal on ebay.

Other option is R7000 netgear a bit over your budget but it is way better

    • Hey LoveBargain

Cheers for the response. When you say "way better" what did you mean by that?

      Thanks again

      • R7000 have better wifi penetration(send out strong signal)

Dual band means 2.4ghz and 5 ghz, where all device current support 2.4 ghz therefore if all device connect to the wifi via 2.4 ghz at the same time you can image the speed may be affected.
Also 5ghz run on a faster speed, which new mobile and laptop normal support 5ghz.

        • yeh sweet man! I'm leaning towards D7 TpLink. Read some good reviews.

Should have bought this during the 20% tech deal!

    • also don't quite get the concept of "Dual Band"

      • two wifi's…

      • one band for your media server and the other band for everything else… I mean, you have a media server don't you?

        • Hey …lol I'm a tech noob..I use it for TV/Laptop/Phones that's it…I assume I don't have a media server? haha

        • @sauce2k: No, you do have a media server, ill just turn it on for you, lol, just kidding…..

You'll be noticing modems have changed a lot from that old 14.4 box you've still got under the desk.. DOn't bother looking for dip-switchs on the new gear, it's all web interface now…

The second band mentioned is usually a lot faster so you may notice an improvement in browsing and downloading…

  • ASUS DSL-AC68U
    TP-Link Archer D9
    D-Link DSL2900AL

These are above your budget in the $200 mark.
    But they're damn worth it.
You could save up a little… or get an individual modem, and an individual router.

      awesome thanks!!!

Do i just buy it and enter code at the end?

  • yes first you add to cart first and enter the code before you pay by pay pal

    • cheers! Just realised the code activates tomorrow.

  • Be careful with some of the advice on here. The R7000 is just a router with no modem component. The modem bit modulates and demodulates the analogue signal from a phone line into a digital signal. An ordinary router doesn't do this.
