  • Is it actually worth it?? Had to toss a +1 for the profile pic.

I find it worth it. Manage to do a couples thing with the wife and 2 others. For a treat anyway it's worth it IMO. However readings $15 premium is better value

I don't find gold class worth it anymore when Hoyts offer recliner seats at some of their cinemas.
Hoyts Recliner seats are basically the same as Gold Class, slightly more people but its pretty much the same without catered food (which you have to pay for in Gold Class anyways).

For luxury wise, i don't find this really that good anymore, but if you want catered food then i guess you'd still have to go to gold class

        • Too true. I suppose this deal benefits those who only have a village in their local without other choice.

        • @bemybubble:

          Hobart says thank you!

Since they started allowing turd children into Gold Class, no it's not worth it.

Just about the pull the trigger on a + then saw:

Note not valid for after 5pm fridays and saturdays

    Deal Breaker right there.

    Thanks anyways OP!

How do you remember your username???

      • +2

:) I have an excel file full of my usernames in different forums and sites.

        • +1

How many accounts are you up to now?

CMIIW, I think Village Cinema charges $5 per ticket when we book the movie sessions online.

So there's a potential surcharge of $20 for 4x tickets.

    • +3

I hope your comment stands out - would deter a fair few people from purchasing these tickets.

      • +1

Redeem them at the box office - no charge & you can use the gold class express queue.

        • I rocked up to Jam Factory cinema last time but was told all the good seats were gone (middle and back rows).

I'm not sure if you could make an advance booking at the ticket booth because as a customer, that $5 booking fee really left a sour taste in my mouth.

        • +2

@Gorodemon: sure you can. I duck into crown on my Lunch break and make 7pm (peak) bookings.

          @Gorodemon:

Don't ever sit at the front…..it was horrible (only seats left when I booked). My neck was super sore and just so uncomfy, I didn't even finish the movie. They were great abt it and provided me comp tix to come back…..

For events booking fee was $3.25 per tix…

    • +1

I am pretty sure it is a $5 booking fee per transaction, so still $5 for 4x tickets to same session.

A true ozbargainer will make the booking in person at the movie theatre - no booking fee is charged when you do it at the ticket desk.

      • Nah it's not.. It's per ticket. That's why I book in person.

  • FYI AAMI members can get $20 tickets (similar restrictions)

But they have to pay 50% more for their insurance…

Why would you need to stuff yourself in a cinema anyway? You can't see the food (could be moldy), it's overpriced and you have to focus on not putting any on yourself while watching the movie (can't stuff myself for 2 hours omg!). I guess I'm not a fat american so I wouldn't know (I'm just fat) or I'm just a peasant who doesn't understand what luxury means.

    • +4

      The real advantages are:
      * Much better seats.
      * Less people, more spread out seats (not some smelly bogan coughing on you for 2 hours).
      * Alcohol.
      * Yes, warm food. I'd rather pay $10(?) for some hot wedges and sour-cream, than $5 for a bag of Smiths.
      * Lounge area to sit and have a drink before the movie.
      * 18+ (not any more, because the caved to the whinging of parent-Nazis who want to infected everywhere).

Is it worth the insane prices? No…maybe…I don't know. But it certainly isn't just about 'stuffing yourself'.

      • +3

Yep - live in a low socio-economic suburb and the last straw was someone being arrested in the middle of X-Men

        gold class or nothing

        • +1

Yea i'm on parole now, my bad…

        • +1

That sounds more interesting than xmen
Was it a man or woman?

        • @outlander:

A large man that was actually doing something right by telling a drunk patron to shut up!

what wasnt OK was when he proceeded to beat the living crap out of the bloke

      • The wedges are something divine aren't they.

  • +1

Regular price is $30 a ticket, so even if your planned use matched up with the restrictions it is only a 15% discount.

Personally I prefer Hoyts Lux (formally la Premiere)
For $25 a ticket (through optus) you get comfortable reclining seats, a bigger screen, and all you can eat popcorn and softdrink. Most importantly though, the seating is a level above all the other regular cinema goers. Films are much better when enjoyed with a smug sense of superiority.

    • They can be $40 eg Thursday night

  • +1

Reading Gold Class $20 tickets all day every day.

    • Omg.is this true???? Will go there next time! Although the regular cinemas are normally quote empty anyways :)

  • +1

I remember this being 4 gold class tickets for $80…
