After New 24" Monitor Suggestions for Game, Movie & General Use

Old Viewsonic 1680x1050 16:10 display is on its way out so looking to get a new monitor for a mix of general use, video and gaming. Connection will be HDMI from my old video card which I will also likely be upgrading at a later stage.

Was looking at getting the Dell U2417H but now thinking that might not be ideal for gaming. Aimed more at business, graphics & video use.

Basic requirements:

  • 1080p 24" is fine due to desk space available.
  • Must be height adjustable
  • Matte screen (non glossy)

Not sure what to get so after suggestions on brands and models to look at.

  • What is the budget?

    Must be height adjustable

Would you consider a monitor with VESA mount and buy the stand separately? Otherwise you are limiting your choices to only a few monitors.

I recently recommended a mate the Asus MG248Q as a gaming monitor. Currently $420 delivered with the 20% off Selected Stores on eBay deal.

    Asus MG248Q
    - 1080p
    - 24"
    - Must be height adjustable
    - Matte screen (non glossy)
    - Budget ?

    • No real set budget. Just wanted to get an idea of whats out there.

  • I would get an IPS panel (great for colour reproduction and viewing angles and if your PC is a semi-decent rig I would consider something that can do 144hz (but not essential).

    • I'd go for a VA panel for better contrast myself. I have IPS and the glow shits me to no end in dark scenes. Won't be going for IPS again unless they sort it out.

  • do you have Nvidia or AMD video card? You can also consider getting a Freesync or G-Sync panel

    • At the moment its an older Nvidia card which I want to upgrade in the future.
