For the record, things like "Foxtel Approved" essentially amount to "it doesn't make Foxtel worse".

    • thx, was wondering how much of a label that was.

    LOL @ "Foxtel Approved".

What's important is does it have ACMA's A-tick on it. From reading the specs I can't see that it does.

    • Oh what's that? =S I didn't consider that at all when I bought mine.. never heard of it.

    • Why would the Aussie media authority need to approve a power-board? :S

      • Please see http://www.acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_2796

But basically to be sure that it doesn't produce electromagnetic interference which could impacted on other devices (or users of licensed spectrum).

        • Once again, essentially translating in to "doesn't make it worse".

Nothing like "makes it better" or even "effective surge protection". Simply "not worse when you don't use it".

          • @[Deactivated]: I have no idea what you're trying to say.

The fact is that "Foxtel Approved" means nothing. What one should be looking for is the A-Tick. Nothing more, nothing less. Foxtel doesn't get to rule the world anytime soon.

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: Yes. That's what I'm saying. The Foxtel Approved thing means "this device doesn't make Foxtel any/much worse".

Similarly the ACMA A tick means "this device doesn't make the communication device you plug into it any/much worse".

What I'm saying is that neither of them really mean anything about the quailty of the unit. It certainly doesn't mean it makes TV or power cleaner or even that the surge portion of it works.

              • @[Deactivated]: foxtel approved just means they're paid fox for the rights to pop their logo on the box. My guess is you'll probably find this product throughout foxtels tv guide.

                • @Davo1111: Exactly. It's a commercial arrangement which should have no bearing on whether the product is of value or not. From a technical perspective what matters is ACMA's approval, not Foxtel's.

In fact, the've probably not sold well because of the dodgy Foxtel stamp and is probably why the product is being dumped here at "bargain" prices.

Remember that episode of Absolutely Fabulous?

Eddie: …Also, when the wood arrives for the kitchen surfaces, remember to stamp "Greenpeace approved" on it.
                  Bubble: "Greenpeace approved".

And here it is in glorious colour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCdG1rGhJPU#t=0m40s

                  • @YesPleaseThankYou: I'd like to make it clear - this is the same as what I'm saying.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to clarify it, but OK.

                    • @[Deactivated]: I have no idea what you are trying to say.

Clearly Davo1111 feels the same way as me as he also felt the need to provide clarity on your post.

                      • @YesPleaseThankYou: lol calm down all, we all agree with eachother. hands in … GOOOOOOoooOOO OZBARGAIN!!!

                        • @Davo1111: Well I'm curious now.

What did you guys think I was saying?

  • Hows that even cheap?
You can get a similar one at K-mart for $29 with phone line extensions

    • serious?

      • It can be cheaper if you look harder :)

There is no mention of any monetary compensation in the event that the board fails to protect that expensive piece of HiFi equipment or LCD/Plasma. When you look at the better power surge boards they put their money where their mouth is and replace your electronic equipment if the board fails to protect the equipment. A sorry from shoppingsquare in the event of a power surge zapping your electronic equipment, will not pay the bills. If you want to just go through the motions of having an unproven surge board then you may as well go to the local hardware store and buy one for half this price.

  • No thanks for a $35 unknow brand surge board. I'm happy with my $29 Belkin SB from DickSmith previous deal. :)

  • This is the same board as is sold under various names - often available for around $25 free shipping. It has good specs. So this isn't a good price.
