One of my favourite rums (neat, or 50/50 with coke) has been sitting around $59 for the past 2 months, but its back down to $49.95 $48.95 again.

Note: Kraken is a full flavoured dark (black) spiced rum - its nothing like Bundy - but if you havent tried it before, why not give it a Krak.

The Kraken is the most fearsome of all sea monsters that lies up to 3000 feet beneath the surface of the ocean. This dreaded behemoth has been known to attack ships, dragging fearing seamen to their deaths! It has been rumoured that a large shipment of dark, spiced rum was once taken down by a Kraken in the Caribbean Sea and the resulting rum barrels drifted far and wide. This exotic Rum has been named in The Kraken's honour and is made from naturally sweet molasses from sugar cane grown naturally on Virgin Island riverbanks. Aged in barrel for 24 months to impart classic dark rum flavours of cinnamon, ginger and clove.

        I make my own from this recipe: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/fresh-ginger-syrup-recipe/ but if you can't be bothered try Buderim ginger syrup from your favourite local supermarket.

          @harpie: That's up to individual taste really. I like a generous shot of rum in a tall glass, a dash of syrup, plenty of ice and a good squeeze of fresh lime. Top with soda. Enjoy. Repeat. :)

      This is better just on ice. Its one of the few rums I can drink on the rocks. Its very smooth.

      Much better than Captain Morgan Spiced Gold, but I would put the Captain Morgan Black Spiced rum ahead of Kraken.

        I accidentally bought a bottle of CM Black Spiced, thinking it was Kraken (ordered online, didnt realise until I got it home).
        It was OK.. I finished the bottle.. but was keen to get back to Kraken and wont buy Black Spiced again, even tho its cheaper.

      ive heard people say captain morgan isnt even a true rum , but i still like it with coke , by itself with ice is nasty though

    Just came back from the UK where I was buying Kraken Spiced Rum for £20 a bottle. Bugger! Wish I'd brought some back with me. :(

      It's amazing how much cheaper booze is overseas. Picked up a 700ml bottle of this in the USA last month for $25AUD (was about 19US), and its 47% not 40% like over here!

    I tried to buy my wife a bottle for her birthday but the guy at Dan's said liquor out! I said thanks for the suggestion but I'd rather give her rum.

    Oh my god, dark and stormys made with this stuff are AMAZING. Two shots, some spicy ginger beer, a squeeze of lime juice and a tiny dash of bitters. Best drink ever.

      It did that for me (with store location not set), then I set my store (to Alexandria NSW), and it reduced from 51.95 to 49.95, so possibly you just need to set your store location?

      Yep, I always taste it neat every glass I have (before I add coke) - appreciate the full flavour.
      Drinking it straight doesnt help if you are feeling a bit parched tho…

    Ive been enjoying this Buckeye spiced rum that I got from last months DM club offer. Its still $30 and is excellent value for money. It shits all over Captain Morgan which tastes like syrupy metho. This is nice and mellow but not as rich as kraken or CM black spiced.

      Totally agree, Buckeye is what I am drinking at the moment (until I pick up a bottle of Kraken).

      Buckeye is what I buy when Kraken is not on special.. its sweeter and not as impressive as Kraken, but tasty and good value.
