Need a Charger for Apple Macbook Air Urgently

Kind OzBargain folks.
I am needing a new charger for our old 13inch Mac Air.
Magnetic connector is broken.

I know I can get a new one from Apple etc but, geez, $129.

Anyone please can you let me know where I can get one on the Gold Coast tomorrow (Sunday) for a heap cheaper, second hand will do or a non=apple brand if there is such a beast.

Non-apple chargers are Not recommended by most people. I personally wouldn't risk it, for the sake of saving $70 dollars you are also risking damaging your already-expensive Macbook air.

go into an apple store and get your faulty charger checked out by an employee. If lucky, you might evne have one that's actually recalled and is eligible for a free replacement.

      thanks.
I think the plastic came away from near the connector ages ago. put tape around it but my sons says its not working now.
maybe we should have done something about it years ago (air is 2013 model). I doubt they will do something.
This is a school supplied air, but he needs it tomorrow for assignments.
Maybe a friend can charge it and then he gets 6 hours or so use.

      • Magsafe connectors can be repaired. See iFixit

        and some videos

        Example 1

Example 2 (turn down the volume, annoying music warning)

As to who can fix it… you'll have to ask around. or attempt to do it yourself.

        • I replaced the cable on my magsafe charger. Incredibly simple. There are only 2 wires to connect up inside the actual charger. I bought the replacement cable off eBay for $7ish delivered from Sydney.

The charger I originally bought from aliexpress for us$18 delivered.

Yes, we are lucky to have Apple Stores. They should be able to fix, I wouldn't risk it either.

thanks. same reply for you as above. I may wait and see what school says, and see if a friend can charge it for the morning.
I there was one cheap on the coast I would buy it but man, $129 is a rip off.

      • Wow that is crazy that his school supplies them! At my school we all have to take it in turns on the Lenovo's in the library.

all school kids got an air (well first year was one of those white plastic macs) . He has had the Air for fours years now though.
its been pretty good, the laptop has been dropped plenty of times and is still chugging along. At one stage there was a fault (sceen failed) school fixed it. I think at the end of the year we can buy it for a dollar.

It sounds good but for sure I am paying for it with the high school fees.

        • @PVA: Hahaha. Well at least you get something for them.

  • Pick the correct charger for your MBA @ https://www.macfixit.com.au/apple-mac-accessories/laptop-acc… for $89.99+9.90 freight.

    • thanks, although still $100 , it is a little cheaper.

  • The chargers for some models were recalled a while a go, if yours is included they'll replace it for free. https://www.apple.com/au/support/ac-wallplug-adapter/

That is only the plug on the charger that was recalled/replaced. Not the charger itself

  • Take it to the Apple Store, they will likely replace it free of charge.

    • Yep, I'll get the wife to drop in tomorrow and see if they'll do it. First we'll see if the school will just replace.
