    Damn, not Vic.

  • I'm moving. I don't need any more stuff!

  • people said, salvo around double bay NSW will have some good stuffs, as the area is full with rich people.
    is that correct?

    • +2

Typically the richer suburbs will have better stuff. But the salvos mark ups means its better to go to vinnies instead, regardless of the 50% off.

And still more expensive than the likes of St Vincent De Pauls. Plus these idiots are very anti gay. Don't support them please.

    • Interesting (but article is old - from 2012)

I can't see any more recent articles on the Salvos Australia though. Anyone else?

I volunteered for St Vincents for near 2 years and something we learnt that was interesting was out of all the similar organisations Salvos is the one that has the largest portion of their sales money going to paying staff, drivers, managers, etc etc. They waste money like its no tomorrow and charge an absolute mint for their donated products. We had a Salvos round the corner from our Vinnies and did a test. We "donated" what we were selling for $1 as dog blankets due to being very old scruffy, small holes etc, to Salvos and later that afternoon they had put anywhere from $10-$30 on these blankets. Just greedy buggers. And no wonder that store shut down. Our Vinnies did not pay any of the drivers, day captains (managers) or even the area manager. They did however pay the retail specific area manager.

Long story short, don't support them, they suck balls.

The prices have really got crazy over the last year or two. Used to be able to find some gems, but now anything branded is 30-40 bucks. Its ridiculous.

      • +2

Yep. I don't even bother anymore. I am surprised anyone buys it with the prices they are charging for very average condition clothing. Who would spend $20 on a RL polo which is well worn, maybe has some stains and could be a fake when they could go to DFO and get a brand new one for $30-$50 depending on the current sale.

With a baby on the way, I see this as an opportunity to stock up.

    Shame I'm at work today

The Salvos near me charges anywhere from $10-$20 for a simple polo shirt depending on brand, stains and all.

And yet go to Vinnies and we often had Ralph Lauren for $10. Simple ones for a few dollars.

Bought something for $130 recently and the staff refused to drop even $10 off the price. The managers at these places have become very business like.

I got a rare book down from $40 to $12.. but yeah they wont discount some items.

  • If this was available in VIC, I would've stocked up on some 50-cent vinyls (was $1) and make my own vinyl-shooting gun!
