Missed out on Everyday Rewards Points Because of Counterperson's Error

Went to Woolies to recharge my Opalcard and was supposed to gain Everyday Rewards points for that recharge and was served by this young guy who didn't notice that i wanted my everydayrewards points on this transaction. After i told him he had missed swiping the card, he told me that they didn't give out points for $50 recharges?? I was like are you sure? (he must have forgotten to swipe it on that transaction). So next time I recharged again, this time served by a middleaged woman who swiped my card no fuss and I had points for the same amount of $50. So my question is: Was this young guy lying to me about the everyday rewards points to conceal his error? I should really go find the manager and inform them of this situation, as I have now missed out on my Everyday Rewards points, due to staff error or misleading information given by this young staff!

How much points did you lose? 50 ER points? what is the value of your loss? Is it possible for you to let go? Consider the fact that the young man who was serving you was probably scared and lied, and that if you complain to his manager, he might get in trouble.

Just move on, life is too short :)

No OP this is serious. 50 ER points are worth at least 25 cents.

      You forget where you are.

I would fill in the feedback form online with all the details and include a scan of the receipt for the transaction. They usually respond in a couple of days.

Excludes purchases of smoking products, gift cards, mobile recharge, Woolworths Mobile, travel cards and tickets, delivery charges, internet cafes, Woolworths Flowers, >Carpet Care, lottery products and purchases using Caltex Starcard.

Opal recharge is classify as travel cards and are excluded to gain ER points, curious how to gain 50 points with swapping the card on OPAL recharge?

      This.

You get no ER points on travel cards. Though the spend contributes towards any petrol voucher.

      • OP you only mention the reward points, now proven no point has been missing then whining about the save 4 cents petrol.

I would say get over it, just recharge $40 next time so that you can get more 4 cents vouchers instead of rechaging for $50.

There is no such thing as Everyday Rewards points. There never was. Back in the days of Everyday Rewards you could only get Qantas Frequent flyer points. On August 31 Woolworths will finally introduce Woolworths Points, but they won't apply to Opal top ups or any other travel cards.

It is easier for the checkout attendant to just swipe your card, if the sale doesn't count towards anything then you still wont get the points and swiping your card is easier than a potential disagreement with a customer.

imagine op getting their card swiped every week for a whole year thinking it will add points. then only to find out at the end of the year that there was no points. op would then come on ozb and whinging about how ww didn't advising them. ww can't win either way.

This is Insane !!!!! What the hell did the young staff think he did?? Really unacceptable !!! I mean, we are talking about Everyday Reward points here guys…. This is a FRAUD !!! SCAM !!!

I would file a complaint to the nearest police station, the local MP, Woolies' Facebook page ( and the CEO as well), the media ( Today's Tonight), the state's Premier, the prime minister, the governor general, the UN and Morgan Freeman of course !!!

Oh I forgot I would hire a bikie to threaten this guy. Make him swipe his everyday reward card for every customers' transactions he will do for the next one month and then hand the card to me .

    F#$% !!!! I am pisseddd !!

    • I've started a petition on change.org , can every one sign it. this is worse than the holocaust!!! the stolen generation has nothing to complain about with this happening. I'm gonna go out and slaughter a whale because of the injustice that has been served upon you.

      • I am livid about this!!!! How dare they try to confuse you by following the rules! I don't care if it was his fault or her fault, they are both to blame and they should resign, the whole lot of them dammit! You should get full refunds, including all the points plus bonus points and you shold get backdated FF points too, that'ell teach them barstools!!

  • Woolies need to put the card reader on the front of the register like Coles do. Makes it easier and puts the onus back on the customer.

I think that you should just let it go and next time you are in the supermarket, eat a handful of grapes and nuts as this will account for more than the 50cents that you lost out for.

  • I think we need a royal commission into this.

    BIKIES! BATMAN!

woollies are very random, I remember once splitting a 100 dollar gift card to 2 $50 dollar gift cards and they scanned my card and I got fuel voucher, and they gave me dominoes (when they were handing it out)

You're getting a lot of flack OP but you're a true blue OzBargainer in my book. I salute you sir.

Not sure an OzB'er who doesn't read the T&Cs should keep their badge. Though they provide amusement on this website, for sure.

Mind you the T&Cs can work in your favour. When Woolies was rolling out W$, they omitted to exclude travel cards from qualifying purchases on their opening offer. So I promptly recharged and claimed. Next email I noticed they had plugged the hole.

um, why was my post edited?

Well you referred to the counter person as young, idiotic and Asian. The young part may somewhat justify the 'idiot' part, maybe they are just inexperienced and made a mistake, but calling them an idiot was not entirely necessary. And the Asian bit was entirely irrelevant to anything, unless you were implying something racist? If so thank goodness you weren't served by anyone you might accuse of being a terrorist or something.

As for the edits, a moderator did it so maybe they thought the same thing?
