Telstra Freedom Plus Offer Is Finished, Pre-Paid Plus Introduced

Hey Guys

Wanted to start a discussion on the new Telstra offer which appears to have started today.

https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/pre…

International inclusions appear to have had a big drop, for example the $30 recharge has dropped from a $200 inclusion to just $5. However the $40 and $50 recharges now seem to have a permanent inclusion of unlimited international calls to the following;

Canada, China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, UK and USA.

International rates:

Great if you plan on making a lot of international calls to those destinations, but I guess the big change for a lot of people here is this point;

"Google Play purchases not allowed with any credit component of this offer"

Keep that in mind for any new SIMs activated.

      • so you can transfer creditme2u to another prepaid?

    • Thanks

  • Damn. I was just about to port back to Telstra pre-paid for the Google Play credit but guess i won't bother now that it's gone i'll stay with Vodafone.

    • How's signal?

  • Ok I guess I gotta activate a long life sim. Which I can spend whenever. Though I have absolutely nothing to buy. The game I'm playing right now isn't technically available in Australia. So no purchases can be made. I got 3 Telstra sims left.

  • Hi,
    As usuall, I am late to this party too. Oh well, even though everyone have probably already left this party "chat" I will post my question here anyway. First of all I have NEVER used that Rebater app , in fact, I just ready about it only last month but was not interested, and i used google play credit only for a hadnfull of google and windows mobile apps. I was planning to use the google credit on Netflix once I worked out how to. I had this setup, wife phone on telstra freedom plus every month and my phone on long life, SO i had google credit activated on my phone only, i transf the 30$ credit on my phone every month (well wife sometimes used it all mostly to call overseas) and i had minimal use of phone, so just used the credit on simplicity rates that i c2me from wife's phone, both the accounts under my name. So all good all fine.
    Last month on 24th july, wife swapped with a optus recharge for work purposes (complicated to explain) and it expired 24th of Aug. So i tried to put it back on the old setup and it was not available, i mean the F Plus offer. I checked everything and all and finally logged into my account that I do not even remember that i had, and find another sim activated sitting there on the Freedom Plus offer still avail to recharge.
    My question is, is it possible to transfer my other number "wife phone" from optus to that sim so that I get the freedom plus again ?
    Can anyone of the experts out there help me with this, please. And also give guidance on how to setup netflix google billing, calling netflix helpdesk was no help.
    Regards.

    • F+ is grandfathered you won't be able to get it from now on. What you can do is CM2U from your wife's phone to your old forgotten account that is on F+ to spend on Google Play billing. You will lose 25c from every $10 transfer (i.e. 2.5%)

  • I just ported in to Telstra from Woolworths Mobile yesterday (Sunday). I chose Prepaid plus. Basically looks the same to me. I still got my $30 credit and I transferred $10 creditme2u to a Simplicity sim and it all worked as normal. Interestingly the guy from Telstra chat said I would only get $5, but I got the full $30. Sorry, I cant confirm the Google credit bit, I don't use it (and if I needed to I would just use the Simplicity one). If I can confirm the Google bit without actually purchasing something let me know and I will try it.

  • Has anyone tried contacting a cust service rep to see if they can be activated on F+ through the backend? Even though its not available when activating through their site…

  • I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd share my experience today. Today was the last day on my Vodafone prepaid and I had a Telstra $30 starter pack in my draw. Based on a few earlier posts in this thread I thought I'd give it a go porting to Telstra and choosing the new Pre-Paid Plus offer then see how the recharge credits work.

    To my surprise I was successfully able to, as confirmed by a few other people here, spend $30 in the Google Play store on IAPs. I checked my balance on my.telstra and sure enough I still have $5 "Recharge Credit" on the account. Looks like Telstra are giving $35 "Recharge Credit" on the new Pre-Paid Plus offer.

    I'm assuming this is a temporary glitch until someone catches on at Telstra but I'm a happy chappy tonight.

    • Going from reports on whirlpool http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2558643&p…
      It seems you get the $30 recharge credit if activating new $30 starter pack but won't get it with future recharges.

      • I see. Thanks for sending that link. I don't visit Whirlpool often.

        That's weird, I thought the whole point of the PP+ Plan was to deter people from buying discounted starter packs for Google Play.

        • I agree. This actually discourages repeat business (I.e. monthly auto-rechargers) and does nothing to stop the starter pack churners like me

    HEY GUYS, PLEASE AWARE, CREDIT ME TO YOU IS GONE WITH THIS NEW OFFER TOO!! So no more international call, no more Google Play purchase, no more credit M2U.

    Just lost my $30, it HURTS T_T so much.

    • I did a CM2U few days ago, the CM2U options are gone in recharge options, however it could still be done via 125 8888

        Transferred $29 of $30 starter pack on Prepaid Plus 3 weeks ago. But not working now😢

          They have blocked it on recent activations.
          See this thread re swapping plans to use CM2U https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/267818

          @Blackrose:
          Thanks. Was updating your comment - all creditme2u & Play purchases have been blocked on new PrepaidPlus connections😢

          Yes, plan swapping (PP->Simplicity etc & use $30 credit ->PP) seems only way now. Thought may work, checked here & whirlpool, but will wait for more confirmation or until near end of 28 days to try, in case doesn't work.

          Have been activating heavily discounted (never paid more than $10) $30 Starter Packs every 28-30 days for years. I've got a few $1 $30 Starter Packs left & would be nice to use $30 each on Play as well as calls & data. Used $120 credit on Play yesterday, just in case that will be blocked on my LongLife SIM. (Have been parking unused credit there using creditme2u.)

          Life used to be so simple, before,the changes😯

  • Damn, I'm about to come out of a Telstra contract and was very keen to go onto prepaid for the Google Play Store credit.

    Now I'm a lost soul lol

  • Popped in a Telstra prepaid sim earlier, and was puzzled being unable to find Freedom Plus.

    No wonder.

    I'm gonna miss that $200 International Call credit for sure.

    Demn.

  • activated new sim on 3gb datapass, $30 credit available for google play :)

  • Lucky me, I still have Freedom Plus :) Hopefully they don't remove it from my account :)

  • Is there anyway to use up the extra credit on iOS? Or am I going to need to get a droid device and pop my current sim in it?
