Thanks Hashtrid, got one. Next cheapest I saw was $269.

I've had the older model without the light for several years.
The fan was starting to get a bit noisy and wanted one with the light.
We never use the regular oven since having the earlier one.

  • I've had my eyes on these for a while, they have a really good reputation, was looking for a deal around ~$250.
I'm hoping it'll replace my oven too!

I've had one for a couple of years now, and I friggin love it. Most useful thing I've ever bought.

Whether it can replace your main oven depends on what you want, but it can do at least 80-90% easy (and, as a second oven, it's brilliant for those other 10-20% of cases).

  • Can these be used to bake cake?

    • +1

It has a bake option plus another 9.

slow cook, bake, grill, crumpet, toast, cookies, roast, pizza, reheat and warm

  • Has the frequent E05 issue been resolved as mentioned on Product Review.

Helpful to provide link to mentioned comments: http://www.productreview.com.au/p/breville-the-smart-oven-pr…

Thanks for the link. Hesitating aftet reading the comments there….

The good thing from those negative reviews was that they were all issues that were noticed right away, so they are covered by warranty. And it's got a two year warranty.

It would be so helpful for consumers if we could find out the percentage of devices that needed warranty repair. It's quite possible that Breville has isolated this problem in QC but judging from the recency of some of those comments, I'm guessing not.

We really want a small oven like that, but also a bit hesitant…

          @twocsies:

Seems to be the best model out there in 2016 http://www.toptenreviews.com/home/kitchen/best-toaster-ovens…

Maybe it'll be fixed for the next sale end of the year…

  • These are fantastic. Had one for a while and it gets used everyday. Rarely use my larger oven now.

  • Great oven. I've had mine for a few years and it still works well. Mine does make a loud noise when off sometimes so I just leave it off at the power point.

What is the "smart" part of it?

    • "This is the first compact oven with Element IQ™, the technology that controls heating elements to suit whatever you are cooking. Simply select your cooking program and adjust to taste and this smart appliance will deliver the right power at just the right time to each of its 5 elements. The 22 litre Smart Oven™ also suggests the use of convection and makes adjustments for fresh or frozen ingredients."

  • Can this replace a microwave?

    • Only the oven function of a microwave oven. There's no magnetron in these units so you don't get any microwaves.
