TPG ADLS2+ Installation Troubles

This post is more of a vent than anything.

30/7/16 - signed up to ADSL2+ with TPG. They advised it would take 10-20 business days for a technician to come out and install. Timeframe sucked, but I could live with it.

5/8/16 - notified that installation would take place on 15 Aug between 1 and 5pm. 4 hour block sucked, but I thought at least we will have Internet!

15/8/16 - wife took a day off work. Sat around till 4:55pm. Called TPG and they said that they had been advised that there was a "mass service interruption" and the install could not proceed. They booked it in again for 31 August between 1 and 5pm. Another 16 days without Internet! They didn't bother calling us to let us know, it's not like we have anything better to do than sit and wait?!!

31/8/16 - I left work early to sit around between 1 and 5pm. Got to 4pm and thought this couldn't possibly be happening again?! Called TPG, was told to wait till 5pm - I asked for the technicians number and they said they don't have those details. It's now passed 5pm and no one showed up!! What a waste of time. Horrible customer experience. Waiting on the phone with TPG now, feel sorry for the person that answers…

  • I know it's frustrating but just remember it's not the fault of the person who answers your call :)

Maybe try a different ISP if possible, not off to a good start!

  • I would think a Telstra contractor is the technician what they call?

In my past case, I was compensated with a month of Internet for free. You need to chase them for these kind of things - not ideal but it will make you feel better.

  • +1

    its not really tpg's fault.
telstra technicians are used, telstra techs would not keep tpg in the loop of issues.
i know it sucks , and its gotten worse the last few years , but you cant really blame any isp that is reliant on telstra.

  • go to a different provider.

  • iiNet has gotten horrible too ever since TPG bought them. Stay away!!!

    • Telstra techs/contractors…

      • I'm on NBN… So don't try and pin this on Telstra.

        • Same story, different name. Contractors again, but with NBN Co. instead.

  • Thanks for the responses. I've settled down a bit now.
I know it's not TPG's fault - but the nonchalant manner in which they talk to you is what really irks me. Like me taking a day off work and sitting around for hours is no big deal.
