  • The ironically named security camera. Hope you aren't thinking of connecting it to the internet.

  • Insecurity cameras! :D LOL… but seriously, we have two baby cameras. IP Wireless camera for inside your home network is a great idea.

  • As above, I highly recommend the idea. I have 2, a cheapie and a FOSCAM branded one.
The Cheapie is rubbish by comparison. The Video is not as good, but more importantly the audio is terrible.

So definitely do it if you have the skills to set one up on your network. But get a better camera than the one you've linked to.
And make sure you keep the firmware updated and change the passwords from default.

I use TinyCam Monitor app for Android with my cameras. Easily the best app I found and quite possibly the best Android App I've used.

"Motion detection alarm, it can send a picture to your phone and e-mail when abnormality is detected"

Wait, this camera collects and sends pics all day/night for free?

I have to pay a monthly fee for that service with my current IP camera.

    • Yeah…
You have one of the DLink branded ones (or similar) at can only communicate through a dedicated app right?
I bought one from Bunnings on clearance and returned it immediately after discovering it was gimped by software.

  • I have SwannSmart ADS-450

When engadget says "that this is one of the better units" I assume that I've got to pay like they say.

Does TinyCam Monitor email you motion pics for free?

    • It does if it supports your camera…
The problem being though that your camera is unlikely to be supported cause it likely uses proprietary software to output solely to the SwannSmart App and online service so they can lock you into monthly subscriptions to utilise "your" camera.

  • Wireless devices emit radiation. Would not use one of these close to a baby.

    • OMG so do light globes!!!
Turn off all the lights in the house and dress the baby in AlFoil!

More importantly Wireless Devices emit non-ionising radiation just like Light Globes, in fact they emit lower energy photons than Light Globes emit!
ie there is no evidence, nor any known theoretical possibility that Radio Frequency can cause heath effects, more specifically there is no evidence nor theory that RF can cause mutations in DNA.

Crap the baby is emitting radiation and it's ionising radiation!!! Stop feeding it Banana!

  • Wireless routers – as well as Bluetooth and similar wireless systems – give off electromagnetic radiation in the low-gigahertz frequency. This level is considered potentially dangerous to people. And the danger is compounded by several factors:

Just like the wireless signals themselves, the EMFs can pass through walls.
Most routers are not turned off at night, so you are exposed 24/7.
You are not only exposed to EMFs from your own router. Did you ever search for a wireless signal and see not only your wireless network, but also your neighbor’s and the one from the business down the street? All of them emit EMFs.
Increasingly, scientists and researchers are uncovering the health risks of EMFs. Depending on the level and the length of exposure, those risks can range from insomnia and headaches to tumors. For more information on the health risks of EMFs from Wi-Fi.

    • I can point you to a picture of a flying pig on the internet, but it doesn't mean there are flying pigs!
Note that this site is selling "solutions" (that have no scientific basis to function) to reduce EMF exposure. It spouts false science to generate fear in order to sell false products.

As above Visible Light is even higher frequency/shorter wavelength!
Blue Light borders the Ultra Violet band, UV causes cancer… going by your theory, Blue light must also be carcinogenic? Red Light is probably a bit better for you and then there's Microwaves and finally we get to RF… if frequency/wavelength is a measure of "danger" then RF is right at the bottom of the list of dangerous Radiation.

The 60W (60,000mW) light globe in your room is pumping out WAAAY more energy than any router that is emitting somewhere in the range of 1-200mW of RF.
And if it's a Fluorescent globe (curly or straight) it's actually producing UV (which is then absorbed by phosphors and re-emitted as visible light).

Something that passes through walls means just tells you that it's not being absorbed. If it's not being absorbed, that means that it hasn't collided with anything and therefore it has had no impact on anything.

Not only that, but there is compelling research to suggest that increasing exposure to EMFs is giving rise to strange and unique mutations. People with these genetic mutations have been found to have the ability to absorb and emit this radiation, allowing them to enjoy warm hot dogs on the go.

  • This wifi radiations thing, reminds me with report that suspended on ABC: Catalyst: Wi-Fried
