eBay Item (Boardgame) Arrived Damaged - What Can I Do Exactly?

So I received a boardgame from an ebay quite damaged imo (corner crush, side crush and front creases), and it seems to be because all they packaged the game in was a soft cardboard wrap (also crushed partially, accounting for the damage on the game), with no further insulation (e.g. bubble wrap) around the game.

This is the first time something like this has happened to me. What exactly can about it? Anyone with a similar experience share their story/lend me advice? Can I get a refund/partial refund or should I return the item, or request a new one?

Thanks to anyone who can help. Much appreciated.

EDIT: Want to be clear that I have already contacted the seller, they have replied, but I'm just looking for advice and things to look out for, etc.

The item you bought arrived damaged.
Open a return request from My eBay > Purchase history and follow the on-screen instructions.

    • Oh cool, I've already done that. I should have said that in the OP, my bad. So are partial refunds a common thing? Or a replacement once I return this back? Or is that all just a discussion between me and the seller?

The default position is you should get a full-refund. But if you would be happy with a partial refund and not returning the item you can negotiate this with the seller. The seller may offer a replacement instead of a refund, but you are not obliged to accept.

        • Sweet, thank you!

@Zhalfrin: If you get a full refund you must show proof that you destroy the item beyond use - sending a photo as proof to buyer

        • @downero: I've sent photos, but it isn't destroyed beyond use (at least the box damage doesn't seem to indicate that the components inside are damaged necessarily), but the box does have (imo) significant damage.

        • @Zhalfrin: What I'm trying to say is if in the end you choose to ask for a full refund (if that's what you want), you must destroy the item - cutting it into pieces, take a photo and message the photo to the seller. Then the seller will send you the refund

        • @downero: Oh I see! Alrighty, thanks for the heads up.

@Zhalfrin: Usually you'll be requested to return the item for a refund, not destroy it.

  • As a seller (and buyer), I really hate it when people don't first contact the seller.

A claim should only ever be a last resort.

@ OP, you don't destroy nothing as has been incorrectly suggested.

As you've already opened a claim, you have to follow eBay's directions.

That is usually to return the item to the seller, then provide proof to eBay and they will issue a full refund.

    • Look, the first thing I did was contact the seller (both first by making a claim because that's what ebay was directing me to based on its selection prompts, and then directly contacting the seller to negotiate a partial refund). I followed the instructions I saw. I only came here afterward looking for advice and to see if I'm missing anything. Thanks though for clarifying, and I'm with you.
