Highly recommended for anyone who hasn't tried it!

  • Anyone know the download size?

    • +2

      From the OP:

      Q. What's the approximate download size of the Free Weekend client?
      A. For PlayStation 4, the approximate download size is 9GB. For Xbox One, the approximate download size is 15GB.

    • 8-9 GB on PC I think.

      • Free weekend only for ps4 ans xbox1

  • +12

Try it, buy it, enjoy it. For PC players, buy it off the Taiwan Battle.net store. Allows for the same regions as an Australian copy but only about $48.

    • +4

      1 TWD = 0.0416834 AUD 1 AUD = 23.9904 TWD =
      $1300TWD = $54 AUD (From XE.com)

      https://tw.battle.net/shop/en/product/overwatch

      • Ah you're right, my bad. That was just the price I think I paid a few months ago.

        • -2

You can get the origins edition for around $60 on sites like G2A or Kinguin.

Depends how you feel about grey markets.

        • @SnowDragon:
i just bought a copy for $62 on ozgameshop yesterday
          cdkey version is $64

    • When you register for a battle.net account, you can pay about $35 AUD for the regular version if you set your country of origin to Argentina. Later you can change your country back to Australia (you'll need to show some form of ID). Downside is, if you already had a battle.net account, this method isn't useful at all.

      • +1

I see! Didn't know about that one. At least the Taiwan method is easy; but that's a pretty solid saving.

    • Argentina is much cheaper: $35.78 I was charged a couple of days ago.

    • +1

And you can upgrade to Origins Edition for only $10 at the moment on the AU Battle.net store

Shame there's no trial for pc. I don't really want to buy the game to find my pc struggles to run it well.

    • +2

What kind of graphics card (and processor/RAM) have you got? If you've got something half decent it should be OK, the game is very well optimised. Just don't expect to run it well on your Ultrabook.

    • Not sure what your setup is like but I am currently running it with a somewhat aging gaming PC. Running on a GTX 570 with no problems at all.

      • Blizzard probably didn't include PC cause how sensitive they're with completive advantages/grieving/hackers :'(

    • I have a 'craptop' as all of my school mates nicked named them and it runs around 45 fps, charging lowest graphics. I think that your pc could handle it lol.

  • +1

Seems like they're going head to head with bf1 beta, definitely give it a go it's an amazing game.

  • +1

You don't need PlayStation Plus for the PS4 weekend but you might need XBox Live Gold for XB1
"Xbox Live Gold is required to play on Xbox One during the Free Weekend. PlayStation Plus is not required for the Free Weekend, but will be required to play the full version of Overwatch: Origins Edition."

  • +2

A trailer for those curious about the game, like me.

  • +5

God there's going to be games full of Hanzos next weekend.

    • Or Genjis

      • Why? Has Genji or Hanzo been buffed since the beta, i remember Mei, Bastion and Torb being the best on consoles

        • They're not overpowered, if anything hanzo is kinda weak. They're just popular.

        • @Alzori: Exactly. People orient to the archer or the ninja because they're "cool". It just so happens that the two most popular characters are hard to play for a newbie or often drag a team down if team play is neglected. So many times i've had a Genji & Hanzo very far away from the objective spamming "I need heals"

    • +2

Great! Lots of noobs to kill. I mean…Welcome everyone lol.

    • Bastions.

      • Bastion is OP a f

        • Nah Sym is.

  • +4

Anyone who doesn't own this game should give it a try.

Anyone who does own this game should stick to competitive next weekend.

  • +1

Pdfft need gold for it. Not even free trials are free on xbox one…

  • I was going to post this yesterday but I didn't understand..

Quick Play, Custom Games, and Weekly Brawls are all available during the free weekend, as well as Overwatch's training modes like Tutorial, Practice Range, and Practice vs. AI, but it does not seem Competitive Play will be accessible during this trial.

I read this on IGN, is competitive play not the online part? I assumed you can't play online especially considering the PS4 doesn't even need the PSN subscription to trial it. Can somebody who plays the game please clarify for me.

    • +4

Quick play is an unranked system where you can generally play with people of your skill level but it is not "competitive" as such. You can try out different heroes and become more competent in your playstyles, the characters you're good with and so on. You still get XP and winning is still somewhat important.

Competitive is a ranked system where you are placed against people of your skill level and the atmosphere is to win. You rank up, bronze, gold etc, and are then placed with bronze, gold players. It's expected at the competitive stage that you are familiar with how the game works and how characters work with each other.

I think the fundamental difference is play for fun vs. play to win.

      • And indeed, for regular buyers of the game you can't play competitive until level 25 which most people would struggle to reach in two days. You're not missing out on anything, except people taking the game more seriously and getting more frustrated at your mistakes.

  • I might give this a go. Type of game that I'd love to get in to, but never really end up playing for more than a few hours. Did the same with Battlefront, Destiny etc.

At least this way I can try it without wasting money.

    • +2

I was reading a comment like yours on elsewhere actually. They didn't think they'd play for many hours … next minute…. :)

    • 1104 hours on Destiny so far… :S

  • It shouldnt be a full price game - this gets tired fast

    • Comp season 2 is out btw.

    • +2

Played about 65 hours so far. Still not bored and now I'm competent with about 16 or so character it's so much fun switching between them.

    • +1

Yeah, I found it pretty boring too

    • You must be playing alone. Get some friends.

    • This game does get boring fast. Way over hyped.

  • Im in love with D.Va…shhh…dont tell my wife that.

    • +1

      widowmaker is definitely my type

    • There's a video where she…nvm lol

      • Video where she what?

        • +1

          Rule 34 of the internet

        • +1

          @hcetigol:
          Oh my..

  • +3

These trials are great, but I would like to see some more flexibility in the time allocated…I can never guarantee that I'll have significant free time available on any given weekend, so a flexibly delivered but fixed period of say 10-12 hours of gameplay (as with many other trials) would better suit busy folks who might get their only downtime at more random intervals.

    /minor whinge ;)

    • +1

Much rather a few week nights than a weekend.

  • Not showing up on the Playstation store yet… Is it supposed to be ready to download on the 9th, and then the game works from the 10th? Hoping I can preinstall it so I don't have to waste time waiting on the day.
EDIT: clicked through to playoverwatch.com; looks like the client will be available when the window opens. :-|

  • +1

It's a good thing you can try before you buy.
We made the mistake of buying it first than sold it about 2 weeks later. Big disappointment after such a big pre-release hype.
True this game is not for everyone.

    • +2

I think overwatch pretty much lived up to the hype, its a very competently done character based shooter.

    • should have gotten into the beta before it came out. it was very successful and featured all the characters as if it was the real game.

  • (profanity) it, I got a fast new ISP, may as well give it a go. Cheers OP!

  • -3

I got an Xbox One but i already have it on PC, I really don't understand how you could play it on console, it's already quite difficult to react to things with a mouse, the things you can do with a controller will be very limited. I will test it out.

    • Same way you play all FPSs with a controller.

  • Can't find on PS4

  • Nothing for PC wtf man

  • Download size for the PS4 is 9GB and for the XB1 15GB. Enjoy

Yep that certainly would be fun to download with 1mbps

  • my download size was 16gb on ps4? Is it 9gb plus patches/updates or?

    • Same , it says it was finished i get into the game and it says 35% and the size is 16GB

  • Wonderful graphics and seems fun. Distracting me from Guardians for a while

  • +1

Weird, I'm sure it said it was 4gb for me - wondering if once I've got it, there'll be another 10gb worth of patches.

  • 16Gb download for me on the ps4 ??!

    • Hmm, seems they've given misleading information in the blog post.

  • reminds me of time splitters
