Where to find 13mm plasterboard off cuts?

I am trying to find 13mm plasterboard to patch a whole in the ceiling. About 20cm by 30cm. Bunnings has very large boards for sale. They do have smaller one but it is only 10mm thick. Any ideas on where I can get my hands on some?

  • Buy the bigger piece and cut it up smaller. It's easy with a box cutter. Or just use the 10mm. Can't tell anyway when patched up

    • I was thinking about padding the 10mm somehow. Disposing of the 2.7m 13mm plasterboard is not easy.

Buy the large sheet, cut it into 36 300x300 pieces, use 1, sell the the other 35. Profit‼‼‼

  • Ask at a building site

Did you actually ask at Bunnings?

I needed a scrap bit of plasterboard to patch a hole in the wall at home. I asked a guy in the trade section at my local Bunnings and he was able to sell me a partially damaged sheet for $5.

Plasterboard breaks easily, I'd be amazed if your local does have some scrap bits they can sell you.

    • I'll check my local Bunnings. I didn't know they did that.

      • Sometimes they have off cuts as well.
I bought a couple of pieces for $1.

  • Find a new housing estate. There is usually lots of plasterboard off cuts in the large skip bins in front of partially completed houses.

    • I tried that. The new houses seem to use the thin 10mm plasterboards. Found lots of fibre cement boards though.

  • Think you will find that the vast majority of new plasterboard is 10mm. Still given you will need to plaster up the joints, it wont take much effort to fill the extra 3mm with topping compound.

I had to repair the ceiling in my garage recently, bought the plasterboard and found it was 10mm when the old was 13mm. Was a bit annoying, but some extra joint work fixed it up fine.
