  • Is that "Video Pass Through" means I can still get the video/sound to the TV even the receiver is off?

    • +1

Usually, provided you selected the input before turning it off, they can be temperamental though.

    • I think it means that it transfers the signal from one device, through the receiver to the TV. I'd say the receiver still needs to be on to pass through, though I can test it in 7 days.

More info on Video Pass Through.

      • I am not sure if that is the correct meaning because if that is the meaning all receiver can do that.

        • According to post #34 on this forum, you can enable passthru on standby.

  • Can't recall, but I believe the 831 (newer model) may support hdcp 2.2 on all inputs. Many of the first 4k receivers didn't at all (I have 2 ffs), the next batch often only allowed it on one input. Not always clearly written.

    • This one has two, according to AV Product Reviews

Six HDMI inputs are present on the rear as well as one output. Unlike last year’s VSX-824, the 830 has two HDMI inputs which are HDCP 2.2 copy protection compliant so you shouldn’t experience any problems with the 830 handling 4K encoded video.

  • DTS-x?

    10% off via app.
    But what's shipping?

    • Shipping is $9.95, however the 10% via app promo on today is for local only. You'll need to wait for a goods/store wide discount that would apply to this. If you wait for 10% off code you'd be about $10 better off or $5 if you factor out the loss of cashback that you'd get with eBay but not Groupon (as it's app).

  • Any recommendations for a subwoofer to suit this Pioneer VSX-830 AV Receiver?

    • Power Output: Watts per Channel (20Hz-20kHz,.08%THD@8ohm 2ch Driven): 80 Watts
    • Power Output: Watts per Channel (1kHz,1%THD@6ohm 1ch Driven): 140 Watts

    Pioneer S-MS3SW 200W $277.60

    • Power Output (Peak): 330 W
    • Power Output (RMS): 200 W

    Pioneer S-31W 160W $160

    • Power Output (Peak): 160 W
    • Power Output (RMS): 100 W (100 Hz, 4 Ω, THD 10 %)

I'm assuming it's best to get a more powerful subwoofer than the receiver can handle?

    Thanks!

    • +1

Not how it works. The power output from the receiver is irrelevant as that is for the full range speakers. The receiver doesn't "handle the power of the sub"

They only have a line level output for the sub so within reason pick whatever suits and adjust volume of sub to suit.

Keep them in the same ball park and it will be fine.

      • Ahh, right. Thanks for the info.
