Wow haven't seen AV deals in a while. Also, not the best deal for this but Denon AVR-X250BT 5.1 Channel AV Receiver $449 (Was $699) @ eastwoodhifi

  • +2

Note the Denon range has just had Dirac ART launched in the last couple of days. Onkyo has indicated its coming for their models but as always best not to buy on future promises..

  • +1

I hope they are now using better capacitors which will not fail not long after warranty period

    • +1

      and also failing hdmi boards

      3yrs on these

for $2k i'd expect something that lasts

      • +1

Yeah HDMI board is an issue, I have the big brother of this z50 I got down to one HDMI working then sent it for RMA, they replaced the board but it developed another issue with the network controller, lucky for me they sent a brand new unit.

        • they've had garbage HDMI boards for 15 years now. Recalls overseas but not here… Garbage volume control knobs too. Ditto the Integra amps.

Also for anyone considering buying from overseas, the local distributor will not touch anything not sold locally, even if you pay. They know they're charging a significant premium.

Its in the shed now with heaps of faults and i bought a Marantz which craps all over it.

  • Who the heck has a 9.2 setup and what difference would that even make?

    • +2

The extra channels are usually used as height channels for atmos nowadays.

So you’d have 5.1.4 (or 5.2.4 with a second sub)

    • bragging rights

Running my 11.2 channel Marantz amp as a 5.2.4 theater with remaining 2 channels output to multi-room audio. Niche set-up, but works for my use case. From what I heard, the audiophile guys claim that 2 height channels is kind of useless, and that you need 4 for the full effect to be worthwhile.

    • People who realise that audio is part of home theatre, not an after thought

      • I run 5.1.4

      • -1

5.1 is what we've had for decades and it's been fine. I'm not sure that anything more is needed.

    General question:
If I live in a small unit with horrendous acoustics, due to the living room adjoining the kitchen and a hallway as shown below (TV is where the ▀▀ is positioned; seriously, it's so bad that if the kitchen sink is running you can't hear the TV, but the person in the office on the upper left could) how effective would Audyssey or Dirac be at fixing things like, eg. the dialogue on Netflix shows being unintelligible?

Hope this looks OK once I hit 'Post', and anyway I'm fully aware there is not enough space to fit a 5.1 audio system in here, but I feel I could justify buying a decent receiver now if I plan to move "soon"~ish because I'm tired of never being able to hear anything.

Sounds like you can just ChatGPT this my bro

    • ░░░ = what does this represent?

I'm guessing top 2 rooms are bedrooms and left room is kitchen? It's a bit confusing.

      • +1

pretty squirrelly way of posting up a floorplan tho, respect

      • +1

        @MrZ
Sorry, I should have marked the rooms, and probably also have mentioned that the ░ symbols are just blanks used for padding (rather I'd have used non-breaking spaces, ie. Alt+255, but Ozbargain doesn't show comments in a monospace font so that would only cause alignment issues, but I digress…) however, you're correct!
Top left is office, top right is bedroom, middle left is bathroom, bottom left is kitchen which adjoins the living room on the bottom right.

        @0jay
Thanks. I'm just glad it looked like anything at all though to be honest, haha

Looks the same price at a few places, Apollo, Videopro with Videopro however has a $300 gift card.

I'm tossing up between Denon x3800 and Yamaha a4a, I'd guess most people going to recommend the Denon?

    • Throw a Marantz Cinema 60 in the mix as well. Often 20% off
