Woolworths: Pay with Gift Card at Self Checkout?

HI

I am noticing the good discount available on gift cards at woolworths, but wonder can you use these at self check out?

I could only find a thread from 2013 which indicated you can use them, but you need assistance from the attendant.

If you have to get the attendant to activate it each time I don't think the money saved is worth that hassle, as often we are at the supermarket with a toddler and aim to get in and out as quickly as possible.

Thanks,

Yes you can use these at self checkout, you don't need any intervention from the attendant.

When paying just choose 'gift card' as the payment option and enter your eGift card number/pin. Woolworths Money phone app is a good way to store the eGift cards also rather than printing them out/other means.

  • Brilliant, thanks for the info.

    cheers

  • If buying eGift cards, at a discount, I suggest you then buy physical plastic cards from Woolworths.

It is much quicker to be able to simply swipe a plastic card than to key in the egift card number.
The other advantage is being able to use at Caltex/ Woolworths service stations.

    • Ok, so you mean buy the ecards at the 5% discount, and then use the ecards to buy physical cards? Sounds good, but I thought I read on here that you can't buy giftcards with giftcards. Is that not the case?

      cheers

      • Never had a problem in doing this. I use the NON Self service checkout.
Once an attendant was unsure, about how to load the gift card, but just asked someone senior and processed the card.

Maybe what those posts refer to is "other" giftcards, not WW cards.

Currently cash rewards are having 5.3% discount on WW Giftcards.

    • Although physical cards are easier, you CAN use eCards at Caltex/ Woolworths - I do so regularly.
