Thanks TA. Love my 25 cent savings 💲💲💲

Yo yo yo , dis is 25 cent , Ozbargain I represent

    • +7

if you only saved 25c, then you need to buy more. i bought $400 worth to spend on opal recharges and saved $1.

      • Use your Amex platinum edge for triple points

        • I actually wanted to ask about that. Does buying eGift vouchers count as a supermarket purchase?

        • +3

          @KayDat: yes

        • omg best find ever! This is the only reason why I've not been buying vouchers lately. Thanks for solving my dilemma!

      • never used i with opal before, do i just top up at a woolworths?

        • Recharge at Woolies and pay using the egift cards. Saves you 5% on your public transport in Sydney.

(apologies for quality, I only had 25c to pay for bandwidth)

  • nice work TA

  • Of course I stocked up yesterday, oh well - there's always next time!

    • +5

Same here. Bought $1000 around 10pm last night. Well, $2.5 loss is bearable.

  • +1

Web page says "Expires: 11:59 PM 30/09/2016", not as one week indicated by TA?

  • Not again! Thanks :)

  • +1

Never bought these before but going to give it a go. Can the email versions be printed to use in-store or only the hard copy cards (with delivery fee)?

    • +3

You can use them instore. You don't need to print anything, just type the 'in-store' numbers into the keypad. It's quick and easy. (When you get the e-gift card it has the details for online purchases and for in-store purchases).

      • Great. Thank you. And lastly do you have to use the whole amount in one go?

        • +2

          Nope :)
Download the Woolworths Money app to manage the cards.

        • +4

No the balance is displayed on the screen & also printed on your receipt.

I just store mine in Google Drive as PDFs, and rename them with the amount left after each transaction.

The coles ones are better as they have barcosdes to scan, straight off your phone.

        • +2

          @supabrudda:

I do similar, except take a photo of the egift numbers on my screen (as my email is on a PC), and then simply rename the image as the remaining balance each time.

      • Same process for stores like masters and big w?

    • +2

Printed can be used in store.

    • +4

You can print out the emailed copy and use that in stire. I prefer using the Woolworth money app on my phone. You just add the gift card number and pin. It means you don't have to take the piece of paper with you every time.

  • Can you use the online gcards at the woolies branded servo? How does that work?

    • +1

      depends on the servo
My local has signs on the pump - e-wish cards NOT accepted, but they do take physical cards. I think it depends on if their eftpos machine supports it.

    • +24

Method by visual inspection to determine the THREE different Caltex store types (when you drive by):

Fully Independent Caltex Co-branded Caltex & Woolworths Fully-Woolworths Owned Caltex
"Starmart"/Myer One Points Maybe Maybe No
Accepts 4c Fuel Voucher No Yes Yes
Accepts Woolworths WISH (Physical) No Yes Yes
Accepts Woolworths eGift Voucher No No Yes

Use this link to find the Woolworths owned Caltex that will accept it:
      https://www.woolworths.com.au/Shop/StoreLocator

Other tips: You can convert eGift to WISH cards at Woolworths, if your local caltex is a Co-branded store and not a Fully-woolworths owned, however this is up to the operator and your local woolies. Multiple users have reported success at some Woolworths, as the WISH cards are custom amount (unlike set value increments like store gift cards, e.g. $100), even at self-checkout you will require the assistant to type in the amount you want to load on your WISH card (and then pay by eGift)

BigW has high chance of fail for eGift to WISH card conversion as the operators have been trained to not put it through.

      Hope this helps :)

      • Thanks heaps,very useful info .

  • This is a really stupid question but I'm guessing we can buy the gift cards at 5% off and then in turn get 5% off when we recharge opal cards at Woolworths correct?

    • +5

At ozbargain nothing is stupidity mate . Yes you can recharge your opal for 5% discount . I have been doing it using past deals .

      • +1

Hi, how does the Opal 5% discount work? Sorry, I'm new to Opal

        • +3

Use the link in this deal to purchase an eGift voucher (cardless/paper giftcard) for 5% off first.
So if you want a $30 recharge, buy a $30 eGift voucher for $28.50 via the above link (or $28.43 while this deal is active)
Then go to a Woolworths service desk at the front (where you get cigarettes/refunds/mobile phone packs) that has the Opal recharge terminal (large Woolworths have them, not all, Parramatta, Top Ryde, Townhall have them for sure, there are more), and when you pay, ask to pay by eGift voucher.

You also get a 4c fuel voucher everytime you recharge $30 or more

        • @cwongtech: thx!

    • +1

      yes you can.

i buy egift card at 5% off.

and use discount card and then checkout with egiftcard at woolworths.

so $200 opal charge at $190 and pay by discounted e-gift card.

      • Thanks guys, guess I'll be going this route as well :)

        Cheers

      • so $200 opal charge at $190 and pay by discounted e-gift card.

You forgot to split it into 6 transactions to get fuel vouchers! :D

        • For someone spent $30 a week, and soon will be $60 a week, on Opal card, one fuel voucher does all the job.

      • Sorry for my ignorance but what is the discount card you are referring to?

        • and use discount card and then checkout with egiftcard at woolworths.

They mean egift (pre-purchased at 5% off)

        • @cwongtech: sorry, but how does that make it 10% off?
          Sorry, derped

        • @BlazinPast:

so $200 opal charge at $190 and pay by discounted e-gift card. - hurray

          Huh?
Who said anything about 10% off?
You could possibly get 9.75% off (thanks to Vodafail) if you work for WW group to stack a employee card (5% off)?

        • @cwongtech: ohhhhhh sorry, read it wrong then.

        • +2

          @cwongtech:

If you stack 5% employee you dont get 10% off, you get 9.75% off

          e.g.
$200 Gift card, purchased for $190 (5% off)

          $190 Groceries, get 5% off with employee card = $190 x 95% = $180.50

          180.50 / 200 = 90.25%,

          Hence 9.75% discount

        • +1

          @Vodafail:
$100 groceries purchased for $95 (5% off via employee card activates at checkout)
$95 gift card can be currently purchased for 5.25% off, so
          $95 x 0.9475 = $90.0125
9.98% discount if you jump in on this deal! :D

  • good deal.

  • Question: If we pay with Gift card do we still receive the 4c off for the petrol/fuel?

    • +1

      Yep

    • +2

      Off course

      It's called gift card inception

    • i have staff discount card.

      so 4c instant off + 4C as i buy 2 x 3 litres milk @ $6. and then i pay by discounted egift card which i get @ 5.5% off.

      • so 4c instant off + 4C as i buy 2 x 3 litres milk @ $6. and then i pay by discounted egift card which i get @ 5.5% off.

        5.25 or 5.5%?

  • +2

you can use these cards to buy myer gc at woolworth this week for 10% extra value.

    • You are right. As long as you dont buy the Woolworth gift cards, this e-giftcard can be used to buy any other giftcards like JB, iTunes,…

    • Can I use myer gc to purchase iPhone? :)

      • +1

If Myer sells iPhones, why wouldn't they be allowed?

  • +2

Saved an additional $1.25 off my $500 card purchase, thanks OP … now I'll need to be full eagle eyed for not accidentally picking anything full price that's on special at Coles, or that one thing will trash my whole careful calculation…

  • How long do the eGift cards take to be emailed out? It says up to 24 hours, I'm just worried that Dan's will sell out of those 500ml Heineken cans before I get my voucher.

    • +1

Its over 24hrs and im still waiting

      • I had a feeling this would happen. I ordered some eGift cards from Woolies about a year ago and the same thing happened. It's a shame they can't make it happen quicker. I can buy them @ 5% discount through work and they arrive instantly.

        • I generally get$500 cards, and they come within about 1/2 day.

      • Apparently anything over $100 in value (saw a comment saying $500 or over $100 in ozb) doesn't seem to deliver instantly
I usually get mine ($100 and under) within 3 hrs

        • I just received an $80 gift card about an hour and a half after I ordered it, so not too bad. Pitty my local Dan's has sold out of the beer I wanted now, oh well I will keep this gift card and use it later at BWS or Woolies.

        • I usually buy $100 egift cards and it arrives in my email within a few hours (2-3hrs) :)

      • I just checked my order online and found out that the payment was failed, but no contact from woolworths about the payment failure.

  • It take ages for woolworths to delivery the e-gift card to my email.

  • +1

Great offer. I love the extra discount.

However, this week I had my first hassle with eGift cards. I purchased a small one ($38, $40 face value) and my credit card was charged. I received a receipt but no PDF. I checked the card status on Woolworths' web site and it said "Payment Failed", yet I was charged. I have emailed Woolworths asking what happened, and am waiting for a response (24 hours now).

It's probably a one off glitch, but check to make sure all your eGift cards arrive.

    • +3

It happened to me before as well, i think it is sitting in pending which it does not mean it went through, after 1 week or two it will be disappear.

  • Anyone else having issue with the site not issuing e-gift cards. I have tried multiple c/cards but I keep receiving the same error asking me to check my expiry date or use a different card, each time I try the amount is held as "pending" against my card but the transaction never processes.

    EDIT:

I managed to get through by phone but to the wrong department (waiting on a call back) interestingly enough the operator said "are you buying via the entertainment book website, we've had issues there" - perhaps it is a problem with certain cards (or email addresses) being used for delivery via discount or reward sites.

    • I've had this problem too for a couple of weeks. Their support says they're working on fixing it. Let me know if they fix it for you.

  • +1

WHYYY TA??? I just bought for 5% off just yesterday :(

    • +1

Unless you bought $10,000 of cards you lost $25. If that.

      Dont cry too much.

      • That's $25 less worth of giftcard!

      • +1

To be initiated into the OzBargain community you need to care for every cent. I bought $120 worth of gift cards, so I could have saved 30c, which could have compounded in the next 1000 years and my great great great… great grandchildren would live happy and prosperous.

With the assumption of an average savings interest rate of 3% p.a. and thinking with simple interest calculation, after 1000 years that 30c would have become NINE WHOLE DOLLARS!!!

However, if you tweak the methodology to be compounded interest calculated yearly, it will become over $2 trillion.

See it how you want to see it :)

        • On that thinking you are better off eating Migoreng 3 meals a day for rest of your life.

  • +1

Anyone seen the generous new woolies rewards system they are putting in place? 0.5% cashback on all purchases! very generous /not

    Spend $2000 get back $10

    • +2

      Same as fly buys.

    • +1

      From Woolies email…
      $1 spent = 1 point
From next Wednesday 31 August, you'll earn one point for every $1 you spend at Woolworths supermarkets, Woolworths online and BWS+.

Plus, for the first time, you'll also earn 1 point for every $1 you spend at Caltex Woolworths fuel outlets#.

also have the option to bank your savings for Christmas, or convert them to Qantas Points

All Woolworths Dollar balances will be automatically converted to the equivalent points value next week.

      • +1

        2000 points = $10.00, or 2 points = 1cent
For every $2, you get 1c back, only redeemable after $2000 spend, so 0.5% cashback.
        I wish Everyday Rewards :(
Had multiple cards (under me, myself and I) so it would give different offers to lure you back to Woolworths.
The less you scanned your card, the less loyal you looked, and the better the offers!
        Spend $30, save $10 instantly!

        • +1

Best is the 3 weeks deal. buy 30 get $5 off, then 40 get 10 off then 50 get 15 off… get the offer on multiple everyday cards and then split your checkout payment into the minimum amount for max benefit…

        • Multiple cards are good at paying out…
I infrequently use 7 cards to get the offers to lure me back.

Have been a few good instant offers recently. (Over 3 weeks the offer improves $5 off $30, $10 off $40, $15 off $50, so $30 off $120 or 29% off with discounted Wish card.)

Pity can't combine the small WDollar amounts left on each card onto 1 card. I've got around $25 on 4 cards mainly from 5 WDollar off $30 spend.

This week I'm starting another FlyBuys $50 off 4 x weekly $50 spends. That's 30% off when using 5% off Coles eGift cards for blatchysblues members - joined free.

my memory was over optimistic before😯

        • @Infidel:

Love it! Do you sign up with the same name and address?

        • +3

          @Steve-o:
The budgie needs it's own card too😀

Different first names, same family name. Also can use initial for first name.

Address seems to be ok same, but I often use 1/address etc. Postie asked me about all these units in my house. Now he just has a good laugh as I collect my freebies from other deals.

        • I am assuming the budgie & the other 6 card holders all need different email addresses right?

        • +2

          @Triple J:
Yes, the budgie is very particular about that. Your budgie doesn't have it's own email address??

Just use the basic variations to gmail (add . within existing email, eg [email protected] etc instead of [email protected]) & hotmail. Ozbargain email basics ;-)

Unique email is the way of identifying members, for accounts & log on.

        • @Infidel: Depends which way you look at it. If you spend the $50 bonus at Coles your really only getting $250 of goods for $200, which is 20% off. Adding in the 5% off cards brings that down from $200 to $190 which equates to 24% off, this assumes you spend exactly $50 each time.

        • @JIMB0:
True, a common correction relating to % saving. A lesser saving across the total spend.

But I would be spending the $50 bonus on food anyway, so it saves me $50 in real money down the track, from this $200 spend.
It's not like some other deals where you may not necessarily want to spend the bonus due to other conditions.

Usually bring my spending in on target or within 50c. I'm so used to the offer.

I also combine it with rainchecks on specials from the previous 30 days, along with current specials.

  • Thanks!

First time I'm getting on this eGift Card ship.

  • dam dam dam dam dam!!!!
    I get card rage!
But I have to look at these things now……aaarrrggghhhh!!!!

    • +1

Don't forget you can stack your gift card savings with additional cashback when you purchase from Dan Murphy’s, Cellarmasters or Woolworths Supermarkets online through Cashrewards

why is the discount refferred to as "cashback"?

      • You can get the discounted gift card, then use the gift card to buy online, and get cashback. So double whammy

        • and that is buy online through the cash reward site only?

ok, i've been doingsome reading…. cash rewards are rewards for buying somewhere, so they are not really a discount…

        • @robertbruce:
Cashrewards website is usually a cashback site, i.e. you click through their link, they get commission, you get a tiny amount back (every bit helps!)
With the exception of some (woolworths and bigw) Gift Cards, where the "cashback" is actually an instant discount :)

      • this week i have to

        buy johnnie walker $40
        renew telstra prepaid credit $30
        shop coles $50
        diesel 30litres $40
        lotto $30

am trying to work out a discount card strategy

        • MM you could use this deal + 5% discount at Coles buying a $50 Coles eGift Card for $47.5 on http://rewards.blatchysblues.com.au

        • +3

Dropping the gambling and booze gives you $70 instant cash back.

Something tells me your Coles shop would be first on your list to be go though. ☺

        • @Charity: i rarely buy whiskey, but if i dropped the gambling and booze you would go broke….

  • Bought at 5% last night.

  • -1

Not sure if only me, but I am surprised folks here are stoked about a 0.25% increase in cashback amount.

  • Arghh I want to get $500 worth to buy ticketmaster gift cards so buy Guns n Roses tickets but if it sounds like it takes over 24 hours in some cases for the card to arrive…

By the time I get the exist card, physically get to WW after to and buy ticketmaster cards work tickets may be sold out (considering MCG diamond stand already is).

Guess I'll just have to take the loss and hand in my ozbargain membership.
