Woolworths Self-Checkout Split Payment Function Is Dodgy

I went down to our local WW store last night to get some baby formula. Bought 3 cans for $25 each and took it to the self-check out. I saw the Split Payment option on the machine and thought if I split the payment into over $30 transactions it would give me 2 4c-fuel vouchers. So I ended up with 2 payments, $30 and $45 and scanned the WW Rewards card. Today went back & checked online it only gave me 1 fuel discount.

So what's the point of splitting payment? Is it me got my understanding wrong or the WW payment system is dodgy?

i am assuming you just split the payment and got 1 bill.. in that case I am sure you will get only 1 docket.
If you did 2 shops of $30 and $45 and got 2 separate bills, then you would have got 2 coupons I would guess.

You only get one fuel voucher per purchase. Using multiple forms of payment doesn't mean you have made multiple purchases…
Not dodgy. Its the exact same thing as if you got the fuel voucher on a receipt. Multiple payments, one receipt, one fuel voucher.

Maybe it really means split payment modes (e.g. cash + card, or CC and gift card)? Why not try two separate transactions next time?

      Your point does make sense

Plenty of uses: e.g. for people who want to use up a gift card but don't have enough money in it, so key in amount left on gift card, then pay the rest with some other mode.

Because some people, like me, sometimes use more than 1 method of payment.
For example, if my purchase is $35, and I have a $5 gift card on me, I would pay $5 by gift card and $30 by credit card.

Splitting payment using self-checkout only gives you one single invoice.

Split your transaction not your payment.
It's your understanding of what the computer does that is misguided.
To be more accurate, it should be called "Combined payment methods", but I guess they just stuck with Split payment to make it easier to understand.

or you have 2 amex cards both with offers like $10 credit for $30 purchase lol

Split the payment $74.98 by card and $0.02 by cash. Thanks to rounding you just saved 2 cents!

      • +2

Lol, never thought of doing that.

You'd split payment if you wanted to use two different payment methods or two different credit cards. It's still one purchase - the system is not designed to generate more fuel dockets!

Is it me got my understanding wrong

Yes, you only made one purchase of $75.00

The split payment function is used when you have (say) $30 cash and $45 on Credit Card.

Split payment is to pay with two or more different forms of payment eg: cash & card or card & card.
Split payment doesn't split your transaction into two parts, thus only getting the 1 fuel voucher

when gift card isn't enough to cover the entire costs or if you're feeling really mean… split the payment to pay the remaining 1 or 2 cents by cash.

    Oh the irony
Some one being dodgy to rort fuel vouchers. Claiming another party is dodgy because they do things correctly.

    • Bingo!

Actually while the OP misunderstood the meaning of Split Payment, there is no rort here. Doing two transactions to get two vouchers is simply a matter of scanning and paying for one lot of goods, then doing the second lot. Coolies doesn't care how many fuel vouchers you get, as long as you spent >= $30 for each one.

    • When I worked checkout I had a group of monks come through and ask me to split it into $30 payments to get the fuel vouchers. I didn't care and was happy to oblige, but thought it was pretty ironic.
