Stuffs made in Germany, quite tasty if you like pils. 4.7% kick.
Seems to be national.

Enjoy.

this beer seem to be on sale fairly often.
I find it has a kinda metallic taste, not nice. its cheap though but I wouldnt buy again. I really like Pilsners, just not this one. Urquell Pilsner is great but not cheap.

Yeah I managed to get a case of 500ml cans for 20 bucks a year or so back. Didn't like it at all, and gave most away.

    • +2

agreed, this beer is not very good at all!
bought a case during the last DM sale, and I still have 18 bottles left!
it may be made in Germany, but the quality sure ain't there!

      • +1

Well, it's kinda like the XXXX of Germany.
Even there it's mostly enjoyed by students, dole bludgers, minimum wagers and everyone who really wants a beer without spending a lot of money.

At approx. $10 a slab (regular price, not on special), it's really good value for money in Germany, but that is completely ruined by the Australia Tax.

yep, cheap, i remember buying a 6 pack at Aldi in Germany for about $3

      • thats what it tastes like too.

Best described as the "Holden Commodore" of beers.

      …at a Barina price

      Must be pretty darn good!

    • I thought you were gonna use "as great wall of beers"

      • Better than a Great wall, but not a BMW

I don't know what you guys are on about, I think this beer is great. Has 4+ stars on Dan Murphy's.

Maybe my tastes have changed. I bought a case of Extra Dry last week and it just tastes like water. I used to love it.

  • +1

For the price this is a decent beer. One stipulation is that you have to drink them EXTRA cold or they do taste a bit..crap.

    • +1

Haha. Crap beeers taste better cold

  • Great beer … good quality and great ingredients (Bayerisches Reinheitsgebot). It's one of the biggest breweries in Germany which mass produces this beer. Why is it so cheap: NO advertising at all ! Mass production!

Watch this documentary (german only): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSJAn14EW_0

    • Basically Germany's VB or Toohey's or XXXX.

      • Oh no !!! Please don't compare a VB or Toohey's with Oettinger … don't even want to know how many chemicals are in there. It's a cheap beer - no doubt. Taste is always personal preference.
But quality ingredients and no chemicals is definitley a big plus for the Oettinger!

But hey … everyone should just buy the beer he likes … easy … :-). There is no deal when you don;t like the taste no matter the price. When you like the taste you found a pretty good value beer.

Reinheitsgebot (purity law) doesn't mean better ingredients, just less ingredients.
It's perfectly possible to make a terrible beer that causes painful hangovers while still sticking to the Reinheitsgebot ;)

While Oettinger is rather one of Germany low quality beers, it's by far not the worst.

      • You are right … it just means that there is nothing else allowed than: water, barley, hops … nothing else. So at least i know it is a beer!
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reinheitsgebot

It does NOT say anything about the quality of the ingredients.Just decide by taste … when you like it it's great. When not buy something else … there are a few other low budget beers.

Since evidence points to the major cause of hangovers is due to dehydration, the ingredients probably have little to do with it, especially in beer.

the quality of the ingredients in beer certainly have nothing to do with hangovers. They certainly affect the taste (the types of malted cereal, yeast, hops and to a lesser extend water used), along with temp, length of storage, etc. The only ingredient I can think of which may is the yeast due to infection, but the commercial yeasts used by breweries are fairly robust and the beer are produced in facilities with very high hygene standards.

But yeah if you don't like, then you don't like it. I think it's a decent drop.

  • I wouldn't pick up this beer if they are priced the same as Carlton Draught or Coopers Ales, but for this price, it is a decent value for money.

  • Great beer for the $, great price especially 500ml tins combined with cashrewards offers (either cashback click collect or buy Woolies egift cards @ 5.3% off when they have their promo and spend in store).

I used to drink this years ago but found after a while that the beer quality started to vary a lot, and I was getting bottles which were off in some cases. cheap beer isn't cheap when you can't drink it

  • Just FYI, Aldi still has Asahi 500ml can $15/pack of 6.

    • Yeah I noticed that the other day when I was in my local.
